For anyone who cant sleep tonight... You'll be able to see Montserrat v Belize for Free online for their CONCACAF Nations League tie ... Going to be a 6pm local time game so is a 11pm start here in the UK for those who want to see Lyle Taylor potentially playing, seems that you can watch games back even if like me you cant stay up to watch
Does anyone understand how the Nations League works?
Its actually quite simple. It just seems the press/pundits and everyone that speaks about it likes to mention how difficult it is to understand. Leads to everyone believing it’s complicated

The only difficult part about it is working out how the Play-Offs will work if every team from Level A were to qualify for the Euros via the Standard route etc.
Any spaces left in Euro Qualification playoffs will be filled top down. Think of one single league table of all 55 nations at the end of the nations league.
In Nations League, head to head takes priority over group gd. So we now have the tiebreaker over Spain on away goals (1-2 defeat and 3-2 win) Spain/Croatia draw (or Croatia win) would mean England top the group by beating Croatia. Their game is first so we will know if we can top the group before our home game with Croatia.
So if we don’t qualify for Euros (is it top qualifying group or top 2?)
What is our scenario if we a) win the group Or b) come second ???
So if we don't come top two in the Qualifying Groups the following will happen
(1) If Spain win the Nations League Group then we have to hope they do finish top two in the Qualifying Groups so that we can take their place in the Play-Offs - We'd then have a Semi-Final game and a Final game with three other teams from Group A or B (maybe even C) depending on how Qualification pans out
(2) if we win the Nations League Group we'll go into a Mini-Tournament next summer with the other three Group winners, we'd also go into a Play-Off Semi-Final / Final type format as mentioned above which'll be in 2020

Now its confusing again
Easy way to think about it is to imagine the Groups have ended now... Teams would be as follows:
Group Winners: France | Belgium | Portugal | Spain (these four will play in next years Mini-Tournament) 2nd Place: Netherlands | Switzerland | Italy | England 3rd Place: Germany | Iceland | Poland | Croatia (All get relegated to Level
Teams in Bold are those who Qualify for the Euros via. the Qualifying Groups
Means that England | Netherlands | Iceland | Poland will be the four teams in the Play-Offs
Most irritating thing about the Nations League is the Play-Offs
Not how they work but when they are as the draw for Euro 2020 will happen (December 2019) with four spaces incomplete because the Play-Offs dont take part until March 2020 - For a few teams that means they'll initially have no idea about one team they're having to face

How exciting would it be if the whole draw was completed 4 or 5 days before the tournament started though.

Would be great, definitely agree with that, even if it were just the Knockout games that were done a few days beforehand...

Would sadly be a logistical nightmare though
Now that is a shout, redraw from the groups so people aren't going to devalue the last games.
Guess the only way to get round the logisitcal problems would be to have a week break between the Groups ending so everyone has a chance to get to where they need to be and the next round starting yet to take the World Cup for example some teams would have an unfair advantage on others
i.e. If Russia ended up with Japan (Group A v Group H) then the former would get an additional four days rest
Watching in a bar in La Maddalena off NE Sardinia. Pro French but...I thought that the Italians were mad about football. They are all very "hmm..it's a game of two halves, both sides have something to say for them". I'm the only one going "FFS! Come on ref how was that a penalty? "
Last night showed the worth of the Nations's League, 2 top countries playing a serious competition match instead of a meaningless friendly with 6 substitutes and random players picked.
My problem with it, is that for the Group A teams, the group winners, and indeed many of the other teams are highly likely to qualify automatically anyway

Half time Romania down to 10 men but Serbia missed a penalty
Everything else about it is a piece of piss

If spain win through the normal way, we qualify
fairly straight forward i think...

Then qualifying starts and ends before the nations league playoffs start.
Nice and easy.
The confusing bit is people trying to work out who/how qualification works before qualification even starts.
The qualifiying qualifying groups are top two go through so should be fairly straightforward for England.

Gibraltar score 2 in 5 minutes and lead Liechtenstein 2-1, could be on for their second win in a week!
Low in serious trouble.
