That quote was attributed to Burkinshaw when he left White Hart Lane for the final time after a massive row with the chairman.
Now, either Mr Liddle has been reading this thread and has decided to have a bit of fun with us or the old "no smoke without fire" saying might be about to become relevant.
Either way, a very strange thing to say.
Having said all of that, he is a big Spurs fan, has anything gone on at Spurs today? I read something about Lloris being sold this AM.
Perhaps Peters has had a massive row wiih RD. Disheartened dressing room, a lot of frustration coming through might have prompted a falling out. Happened before with replacements in the wings!
Yep he has posted that (@defke) saying BP has gone and either Luzon or Riga in his place......not sure what to believe any more, but after the quote I put up earlier perhaps RD has said we are having no more players and BP has disagreed?
Yes Red thats what I was thinking! RD "no more players just Watt! " Big Bob ok Roland then Im off sorry"
Gut instinct tells me that Big Bob is not the man that will contribute to taking Charlton forward and I think, even if it's in a short space of time, the players have, for some reason or another, dramatically lost confidence in him. He has already lost the dressing room. I think the full picture is not clear enough to judge, as a fan though.
Bob Peeters, overall is a decent coach with the credentials to be a successful football manager. He is a young manager and still learning, as they always are but not a huge amount of confidence was shown in him in the 1st place when he only got a 12month deal.
It's clear that there are probably quite a few bust ups at Charlton, morale is low and people are falling out. Could say that's passion, as we are on a bad run and results and performances have not been good enough lately. Why would it be a happy place at the moment? It shouldn't be... as we should be working hard on putting it right. My fear is that Peeters is a man that has new ideas and can bring something new to a team, but, when it's going wrong, he can't turn it around. He can't get the players back onside and make them mentally resilient to disappointmenting defeats. It will just continue and not stop.
Instead he wears his heart on his sleeve in a press conference or interview and publicly slags individual team members off. How is that professional or the way to do things? That's letting your emotions get in the way, inexperience. Being a twat like di Canio.
I think with Peeters, we have already seen the best we are gana get. It's a shame but I personally don't have faith in the man to manage Charlton. I like him as a person but it's my belief that if we keep him on, it's only gana go one way.
We are too lightweight and have a lack of squad depth. New recruits...all over the pitch, is what should already be on the cards if we are looking to improve and end the drought. We always see the bitter end of January. It's not all Bob's fault but I don't think he's experienced enough to handle this particular poor stretch of results, as a manager.
I thought it was harsh getting rid of Jose Riga.I think the football under him was better to watch and he had a weaker team.saying that Bob had really good start but teams have worked him out.but he has only had half a season it's to early to start changing again if them injury time goals had not gone in we would proberbly be in the play off spots and no one would be moaning. Can't understand why no target man is being linned up for us when Bob and team keep saying it's what the team wants and needs.
That article in Belgian media is based ... on this thread (not the first time)! And to put something straight: RD wanted BP to take over already from the beginning (not Riga) but BP wasn't free at that moment. Hence RD came up with Riga as an intermediate solution. And I can't think of BP wanting to go to Standard Liege (a coach needs to speak French over there). However BP is the sort of guy when he sees that RD doesn't commit enough resources he'll go elsewhere. And for Vetokele: some time ago BP stated that he is already too expensive (more then 10 million euro's) for a lot of Belgian clubs. Can't imagine him leaving now for 4 million pounds ...

It was only a few weeks ago that the loanee from Arsenal said how great a club and set-up we were.
Has the player / manager bond become that bad so quickly?
No.
Too much hear'say and speculation being made from third party information.
Players have words with each other all the time in dressing rooms and it can get heated. It would probably be a poor set of players if it didn't every now and again.
My only concern is manager/owner bond. If RD doesn't back BP and we continue to drop points then I can see him walking away.

Surely Peeters can speak French.
Not fluent enough for the French speaking media in Belgium. The same problem also when a new coach is needed for the national team ...

RD will have to learn eventually. This would mean he will have fallen out with two managers / head coaches over the same thing in less than a year. I understand not wanting to give a head coach absolute power over transfers, especially as it looks like we'll never have a long-term appointment for this position under Duchatelet, but whoever it is should have some input into who stays and who goes.

Trouble is how many times do you hear clubs coming out saying that 100s of Managers had applied for the position advertised and that the club were really happy with the Managerial interest they attracted.
All the while there are Managers looking for work, Chairmen will be happy to sack the current man in charge and give a new man the opportunity, only way that could change is if there were no Managers ever available which wont ever happen

You would hope so mate but this guy also has previous with Standard so I'm not holding my breath. Won't at all be surprised if 'The man is not for turning'. :-0
RD seems to me the sort of narrowly focused man who fully expects that it is other people that have to learn. I somehow doubt that the notion he could be wrong has entered into this mathematical non football brain. His latest social experiment is not looking good at the moment. What he will do next is anyone's guess but I suspect it won't be what we want. I am getting weary of our club being a basket case but at least we have a lovely pitch.

So. 24 hours, and 324 comments later, and the only media report not actually sourced from this thread is the single Israeli website, whose first sentence ends with a question mark.
How much longer before this thread is put down, or at least the title modified to stop causing unnecessary distress to Bob Peeters?; who is, despite his sometimes terrifying demeanour, a human being, who probably finds it uncomfortable to work while people are muttering that he no longer has work.

The same guy that bankrolled a squad refit in the summer? He may be controlling but he's definitely not been overly tight so far.
I like Bob but if he does go we arent losing Jose Mourinho. At the moment we arent even losing Bob, we've just convinced ourselves we are! Im more concerned with the continued strengthening of the squad (more of summer signings like Bikey, TBH, Gudmunson, Buyens, Ventokele, Henderson etc)
I'll get my pitchfork ready for Feb, but until then lets see what transpires.
In 1972 Zhow Enlai was asked what he thought about the French revolution* of 1789.
His reply was "It is too soon to say"
* although there is a school of thought that there was a misunderstanding and he was referring to the French riots in 1968
Was the bell tolling for Zhow when he said that, perhaps?
Actually, yes it was.
He was diagnosed with cancer but Mao stopped the doctors from telling Zhow. As a result he didn't get any treatment for two years by which time it was too late. He died in 1974

Seems to me that big Bob is having a big sulk about lack of resources and Roland is just ignoring him and will call his bluff if he gets too stroppy.
Putting up Bikey to demand more players via the press was a bit shabby and will not go down well with Mr Personality.
Worry is that Bob's discontent and frustration has spread to dressing room and that might lead to his his exit as it did with Saint Chris.
