"To ensure the club can continue to compete and operate we are issuing a special licence that will allow fixtures to be fulfilled, staff to be paid and existing ticket holders to attend matches while, crucially, depriving Abramovich of benefiting from his ownership of the club."
"I know this brings some uncertainty, but the Government will work with the league & clubs to keep football being played while ensuring sanctions hit those intended. Football clubs are cultural assets and the bedrock of our communities. We're committed to protecting them."
Shame its taken a bit of time to hit Abromavich but in a way good that they've done it now because it really effs up his attempt to sell the club when he must have thought he was going to get away with doing it.
Be handy to reference that little gem when getting MPs involved, the next time a "Southall" tries f***in over another "little" club
The merchandise shop will be closed, wonder if they'll be allowed to sell programmes or the catering outlets will be operating (although they might be franchised)?

"You can take our Club, but don't touch out burgers"
They now can't buy or sell players, which, in the medium term, seriously impacts them.
And, more importantly, their value must now have fallen off a cliff face.
They have got a squad of about 50 which will help - you'd imagine players like Ampadu, Gallagher and Gilmour will be brought back in.
What's most interesting for me is that they can't offer new contracts, short term that means Rudiger and Christensen going this summer (though that was likely already), but depending on how long this carries on, could mean expensive players going at the end of their contracts, one by one.

This is great news, isn't it @PragueAddick - I am sure we will be able to rely on Ms Dorries' diligent, sane, sober assistance if ever football clubs' futures look in peril.
It's great news. Like finally the country woke up to what I've been saying since soon after he pitched up, but sadly it has taken an appalling act of barbarism to make it happen.
And I'm sorry but questions need to be asked about why this didn't happen at least 10 days ago, re him and the other eight they have named today. For now, doubtless these questions will be submerged in the belated spirit of Western co-operation, but as with our wrong'uns, I will be among the many who will never forgive and never forget.
I hope the 3 Chelsea fans that kicked the granny out of my Liverpool supporting mate in his 60s after the cup final are choking on their own vomit seeing this news.

Presume they'll have no fans there, or will they be able to purchase because it'll be through the FA and UEFA?

But depending on how long this lasts Kante and Jorginho expire next year.
