Be positive ...it will be fine2

I'm sorry to say, that if he can't command at Southend, in the reserves. I'm not confident he will do it at home to QPR in front of 18,000.
Mind you, he may have been fine tonight and the match thread comments misleading.0 -
The comments are a concern.0

Can't see Pope making it with us sadly2
-
Really worried to be honest. Even on Saturday I thought he looked like he was "frightened to death"! Don't think he will "win" us many points. Get well soon Henderson!!!....PLEASE.1
-
If Katrien and co. want to hit their 70 point target, they cannot be going into the season with Popey & an injured Hendo. He's in the wrong league I'm afraid to say for Popey, not to say he's not a talented keeper.5

He's 22 - A toddler in goalkeeping terms
His record at the same age and same level is significantly better than Joe Hart's was
I wouldn't be surprised if the negative comments some of our numpty fans come out with are the reason he is lacking in confidence. Maybe if we were to Sing a song about him being "charltons number 1" it would have the opposite effect and boost him13 -
Seems crazy to say that QPR will be make or break for Nick but it might well be. He'll certainly be busy enough. A few good saves under his belt and he might not look back. On the other hand...5

I get where you're coming from but not sure if we should be starting the season with a "toddler" in goal, especially just because one 'keeper made it in similar circumstances when countless others have failed.Swisdom said:He's 22 - A toddler in goalkeeping terms

I want him to be a success, from his loan spells there is clearly a good keeper in there.
The concern is he is following the pattern that he has done every time he has got in the first team. A few good saves but a mistake costing us a goal every other game.
In pre-season there's been a soft one in Belgium and it sounds like another mistake tonight.
With Hendo so fragile I really think we need to bring an experienced hand in.7 - Sponsored links:

Where's your evidence for his record being better than Hart's ? Hart had played over 50 games in the premier league at his age.Swisdom said:He's 22 - A toddler in goalkeeping terms

Not knocking Pope too much, but I think the next month is make or break for him with us2 -
I only reported what the commentary said..at fault for the first goal....not sure he is the right back up, but I'm happy to trust Luzon, but wish we had another more experienced option.Covered End said:I'm sorry to say, that if he can't command at Southend, in the reserves. Number one I'm not a "numpty fan"!
It's just my opinion and I have watched NP many times. He just never looks confident, even his "previous match kicking is all over the place!
Joe Hart is completely different league in Goalkeeping terms, no way should his stats be compared to Nick Pope's. ...that's just daft.
I, along with many "non numpty" fans really want it to work out for the lad but unfortunately it doesn't (at the moment, at least) seem to be. I don't think any amount of singing his name will make things better, it might frighten him to death and make him worse.2 -
We should have got Hamer in on a season long loan. Never mind Pope, Hendersons fitness means we need a senior keeper in.1

Bring Rob Elliot home for a couple of months on loan, could do a lot worse!8
-
I know there is divided feeling about Elliot on here. I thought his worst spell came when he had to play behind jokers like Llera, Basey etc. I would definitely prefer him to Popey right nowRedvalleyeast said:Bring Rob Elliot home for a couple of months on loan, could do a lot worse!

Looking at these reports from Newcastle's pre-season he's not even their third choice - looks like the 'keepers featuring in their first teams pre-season are;wmcf123 said:

Freddie Woodman (?)
Anyone know what sort of shape Elliott's in by now ?

the pope at york looked unbeatable, full of confidence and looked like he stood 8 foot tall. Such a shame he hasn't carried that back to cafc. Still hope he can get better and better and get that confidence back.4

I really want him to do well for us but not sure he will be here after this season.2

If Pope was better than Joe Hart, there wouldn't be a discussion. He's not. He's shaky. He's had a pre season to shine & he hasn't.Swisdom said:He's 22 - A toddler in goalkeeping terms

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.
The only problem, is Stuart Taylor, has also looked poor, in the few games he's played in recent years.
Houston, we have a problem.1 - Sponsored links:

Pope and Hart's records were compared on here when Pope was at bury.
Pope had conceded less and had more clean sheets
It's a bit daft saying the comparison is inadmissible
I'm not referring to anyone on here as a numpty - I'm referring to some of the fuckwits on Facebook3 -
I cannot honestly believe Stuart Taylor is a sensible answer to this question2
-
I just don't think it will happen for him at charlton, it may be mental thing but he does seem to have a mistake in him when playing for us.Swisdom said:Pope and Hart's records were compared on here when Pope was at bury.

So what it's meaningless. If you are confident, that Pope will perform as well, as Henderson would have, in the first month or so, then you're probably in the minority.Swisdom said:Pope and Hart's records were compared on here when Pope was at bury.

The majority don't and we all saw how shaky the defence was last season, when he was playing.
I think we have a problem and need to get in a decent loan, for a couple of months, before we find ourselves in the relegation mire, because our goalie is gifting the oppo a goal a game.
I wish it wasn't so. I'd love Nick Pope to be a success at Charlton, but he just isn't looking confident enough. According to comments on the psf's. Tbf I haven't seen them myself.
Oh and if he can't perform because of criticism on Facebook, then it kind of proves my point, that he hasn't got the strength of character.
Hopefully, if he plays, I'm wrong and he's great, I'll very gladly say I was wrong.
He has the ability, but not the strength of character at the present time.
Even if I stand behind him, singing his praises, I really don't hold out too much hope, that it will prevent the ball going through his legs.

Ketts on Dr Kish saying he doesn't expect any of the players on show at Roots Hall tonight to start at Bolton.

Comparing a league 2 clean sheet record to Hart's premier league stats cant be valid though. Interesting nonetheless, thanks for the clarificationSwisdom said:Pope and Hart's records were compared on here when Pope was at bury.

Yep. Joe Hart was playing in The Prem, on loan to Brum, when he was 22. He wasn't shaking in his boots at a psf in Southend playing for the stiffs.

Pope had a shot go through his legs tonight, let's not blow this out of proportion.
He's in the unfortunate position now where people are remembering stuff that goes wrong, rather than picking out everything else he's achieved in a York, Bury and Charlton shirt. Until he puts in a string of confident performances, people aren't going to change their minds about him. He's got to come out fighting and be ready to prove all the negative nancys wrong.
Let's try our best to focus on what Pope does well and get behind him because he really can be a success with us.12
