A bit like Danny Green, he only becomes the answer to all our woes when he's not in the team.
Then he'll come back, play badly, and people moan.
He needs this big long run at Col U to build up a solid base of confidence. Recalling him after 5 games or whatever it is, is not the answer!
Anyone asking why we've sent him out on loan when we're now short - he was in such a rut that he had to get a fresh start. If we had kept him, he wouldn't have all of a sudden turned it on, in front of a toxic crowd for him.
The crowd is the main problem, it's not entirely Callums fault.
He may not be the most intelligent player but if the crowd keep getting on his back every time he tries something and it doesnt come off then you can't blame him. I agree he was in a rut but he wasn't getting any relief from the crowd when maybe we should be looking after our own.
Leave him to light up L1, people forget how young he is. Week in week out football with decent players (at that level) and he will come on leaps and bounds with his confidence and development.
Take him back here to an atmosphere where people are waiting/expecting him to mess up and all the progress will be undone.
We desperately need to recall this guy. Even though he isn't that great, We need a real out out wide man on the left. Makes no sense we let him go
It made sense to me. Callum was low on confidence and was in a downward spiral. Let's hope he continues to do well at Colchester, get really match fit/sharp and return to Charlton as the confident, decent player that we know he can be.
Think that's now 7 assists and 1 goal in 5 games now, well done Callum.
Like I've said on this thread before, I hope he gains the confidence he clearly was lacking here, carries on doing well until the new year for Colchester and comes back into the side a totally new player to what's happened before when it was tough for him with the crowd constantly on his back.
You just know he will come back in January and on his 1st appearance at the valley misplace one pass and get loads of abuse. Callum needed to experience a different environment and build his confidence up and I'm glad to see he's doing well without the pressure and the freedom to express himself. Bergdich has hardly shown he's the answer on that left side but still early days.
Also i don't understand some of the abuse that's thrown at our own players and does nothing to help their confidence. Like on Tuesday some of the crap being shouted at Fox was unbelievable, its no wonder players then start treating the ball like a hot potato fearing making a mistake. I know its only a select few on day release but it hardly helps. Personally I find it weird to go to a game and shout abuse for 90 minutes but each to their own and all that.
Anyone scoring a hat-trick in the Championship is not pony as some posters would have it; wide players wrongly judged on delivery rather than balance of line-up. Unsure why Luzon does't rate him especially when the squad has no recognised wingers. Is there a recall clause?
In the build up to the first goal for Colchester he seemed to be playing down the middle though as part of a 4-3-3 rather than hugging the touchline as a Left-Midfielder (when he was with us) even when he was slightly on the left when he scored yesterday.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt this how he played when coming through the U18s and U21s for us, then of course has always been thrown into a 4-4-2 formation for us

Marvin Sordell hat trick against Wednesday. (could never replicate that day) Calum Harriott Hat trick against Blackpool. (the season before last)
If the Blackpool match had not ended the 2013/2014 season then Calum may of gone on to bigger and better things.
The next league game he played was against Brentford away(new head coach) for the first match of the season and hit the crossbar with Button out of the goal. His season started badly then it fell away with him playing poorly and some of the crowd letting him know it. When you are booed when your name is read out it's time for a loan,(or a transfer) or to prove them wrong (after a loan)
Was at the game on Saturday (as a mutual of course) and first half Callum looked the bollocks! Chipping in with an well worked assist and a cracking finish even though the gills defence should have done better with masseys run! Second half he looked quick and had his tail up but around the hour mark went in with a stupid tackle and arguable should have been sent off. Watching him play like this makes me think he could do a job for us as cousins if not a LM but just looks disinterested everytime he pulls on the charlton strip.

It angers me that some fans focus on the negative aspects of players like Harriott and ignore what he brings to the team. It was a similar situation with Kevin Lisbie. Such players can run at defenses, create panic, open things up for other forwards, and will create and score a few themselves. Just the sort of player you need when the goals have dried up. Yes there will be times when they lose form, but they can still be very useful to have on the bench to bring on against tiring legs. Why can't people just accept they are that type of player and cut them some slack, rather than try to destroy their confidence and with it their career!
colchester are playing Swindon this weekend. I picked up a copy of the Swindon Advertiser (as you do - I'm on the M4) and there is a feature on Calum as he the man to watch. Apparently he has provided seven assists and a goal so far

Callum was replaced after 75 minutes by Darren Ambrose!

Hard work pays off. Keep it up!
Shame there is just no room for him in our world-beating team of winners but good to see him creating chances and scoring goals elsewhere.

I wouldn't be surprised if eventually we are better off because of it.
Keep it up Callum.

LouisMend 100% agree.
4-3-3 he was on the left. the front 3 looked solid! Not sure many defences will be able to stop them. @IA
