  • Bairstow gone too.

    251-6 (7) Lead of 17
  • 285-6 (7) and now 51 potentially crucial runs ahead

    Patel 41* (78)
    Rashid 8* (48)
  • Really shouldn't have posted that score because Rashid is out next ball. And that is lunch.
  • ECB statement "Stokes won't bowl or field in this Test but, should circumstances dictate, he will bat".

So, if we need him to save or even win us the match, he will bat in the 2nd innings.

Or maybe even put him in to bat one-handed at no. 11 to see if maybe we could extend the lead by 10 runs?
  • Our lead is pushing 50... It won't be a high scoring match but a decent partnership or two could win this for either team. A lead if 70-80 might be all we can expect, which gives us the upper hand at least
  • Wooooah, dont go overboard on Taylor. He's only had one innings - watch him get out to a silly shot early tomorrow. The guy is no saviour - and, to me, has a heck of a lot of technical issues to become successful at Test level.

But why not give him 3 matches against Pakistan to prove himself? Maybe he'll be found out on faster pitches, but considering Buttler has been consistently awful in all additions this year, he deserves a decent chance
Agree he deserves a chance - Buttler has been awful for such a long time now - seriously wonder if he'll ever get back.
Just don't think we should do what we normally do which is think they are the messiah coz they have one good innings- and putting pressure on the individual.
Personally, I think we should bring back Ballance. (cue Boycott Riviera) :-/
  • 296-9 and Stokes is "batting"
  • This really isn't the most sensible of moves. Riaz has been brought on and it is clear that, if Stokes is bowled a bouncer, he isn't going to be able to defend himself.
  • Stokes bowled by Malik who finishes with 4-32

306 all out and a lead of 72

    haha you called it!
  • Good job neither Anderson or Broad is injured too because we'd have to either open with a spinner or sling the ball to Bell for a spell of his "legendary" trundlers. Whist he does have just the one Test wicket he does have 47 first class victims including personal bests of 4-4 and 5-41 in limited overs.
  • Hafeez given out caught behind but Bairstow didn't go up and it is reviewed immediately. The issue is, that without technology, the 3rd umpire has to have proof that he didn't hit it.
  • And it's given not out.
  • it was obviously not out
  • So, we're in one innings contest, as it were.

Anderson & Broad's combined figures for the match are 43.1-24-41-6

  • Leuth said:

You just watch. Pakistan will get the first innings lead then Anderson will limp off after 2 overs. Then the openers will gently feast on full tosses from our spinners and they'll be able to declare by lunchtime tomorrow, 2 wickets down. Cook out

Wow. Can you give me this week's lottery numbers as a lot of that statement could become accurate!

Hafeez has just decimated those figures by depositing Anderson into the stands!
  • Followed by a boundary,

    101-0
  • And now Azhar Ali run out in bizarre fashion

    101-1

Considering that Stokes bowls right-handed, couldn't he have maybe switched to batting right-handed and getting his dodgy shoulder furthest away from the bowler ?? (I'm assuming its his left shoulder which is the problem?)
  • Anderson strikes to dismiss Malik LBW who didn't appear to want to play a shot.
  • Wobble two down

    No it's his right shoulder.

Sorry, I might right shoulder - as that would be the furthest away when batting right-handed.
  • Younis given out LBW to Broad shouldering arms. Reviews and is still out.

    146-3

146-3 at close of play so Pakistan are 74 ahead. Hafeez 97* with the night watchman Rahat yet to trouble the scorers.
