Amazed at how quickly we seem to write players off here these days.
We aren't writing him off, hes simply not fit and may be best going on loan and regaining match fitness and the spark. Form is temporary, class is permanent
He reminds me of Torres at Chelsea, eventually you have to let him go on loan, or get him off the wage bill. He's had enough chances and enough time to get fit and firing on all cylinders
What, slightly over half a season is enough to get rid of one of our most expensive transfers in ages?

Except Torres' bad form went on for years, not a couple of months playing in a poor team while unfit.

So how do we know which way round it is with Igor?
I think he will leave on loan but that won't happen until he is fitter than he is now.
What we can't do is just "get rid" as he has a contract and other clubs won't be looking to take him until he is fit enough to do something for their club.
But this is about more than just his fitness or otherwise. The relationship with Luzon/CAFC seems to have broken down. Meanwhile we have an expensive player not playing.
It happens at lots of clubs, not just ours, but it is still a problem and in part one of our own making.
Get him out, he's not the Igor we know and love. I said at the end of last season that he has been found out, now that might be the injury or something else, but he's no good to us in his current state.
Free up wages and get another striker in, it makes perfect sense.

Fair enough but how do we "get him out"? If he's not fit who would take him? Who will pay all the wages of an injured played whose been "found out"? Or do we buy out the rest of his five year contract?
If not and we still pay some of his wages then we might not free up enough to get anyone decent in.
As it is we're still paying part of Polish Pete's wages because that was the price of moving him out on loan. And he's fit.
We're also paying part of Harriot's wages because again that was the only way to get a relatively poor club like Colchester to take him. They are getting a bargain but at least CHs value has gone up a lot since we turned down an offer from Wigan in the summer. But again Harriott is fit to play.

So we'll ship Igor out and sack Luzon. Charlton logic.
Bolton wanted either Igor or some Bournemouth striker on loan, we know about Igor saying no for a while but:
Bournemouth, as expected, have put the brakes on any loan move for French striker Kermorgant following the news that Callum Wilson will be out for at least six months with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
So the person on here that said he hoped Wilson is badly injured, did not think it through, not saying we would have got Yann, but who knows
Can you imagine if we'd turned on Clive Mendonca during his stretches out injured?
No, me neither.
If we're gonna get back winning the team needs to come together and work as a unit. We need to allow Igor the time to improve fitness.
This season feels a lot like last already, hopefully we can finish in a similar league position then invest again and look to move forward next season.
NEIL Lennon has been forced back to the drawing board after missing out on two of his priority striker signings.
Charlton Athletic’s Igor Vetokele and Bournemouth’s Yann Kermorgant have now slipped through the net, leaving the Wanderers boss facing an uphill struggle to land a new signing before the weekend’s trip to QPR.
Lennon said after the weekend’s 2-2 draw with Brighton that he was close to a loan deal – believed to be Vetokele – and could complete the transfer by Monday.
But The Bolton News understands that the Angola international does not want to move away from The Valley while he is still regaining full fitness.
The 23-year-old has sat out the Addicks’ last two games with an inflammation of the pubic bone, and was already short on match sharpness following a long battle against an Achilles problem.
Charlton are looking to loan the former FC Copenhagen star out to clear some room in their budget for loan signings of their own but the matter may not be resolved quickly enough for Lennon, who despite welcoming Max Clayton back in his attack at the weekend, is still looking for more firepower.
Bournemouth, as expected, have put the brakes on any loan move for French striker Kermorgant following the news that Callum Wilson will be out for at least six months with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Kermorgant is in the Cherries’ 25-man Premier League squad and cannot be replaced but had been on the verge of a move to Bristol City on transfer deadline day, which alerted a number of clubs, including Wanderers, to his availability.
Wilson’s injury leaves Eddie Howe short on options, however, and the Bournemouth boss is believed to have put the stops on any loan talks for now.
Wanderers could have Emile Heskey back in action after a hamstring problem by the time they travel to Loftus Road on Saturday but, speaking at the weekend, Lennon stressed that his attacking options are still not to his liking.
Gary Madine registered his first goal for the club against Brighton but the manager feels his side still lack a “game-changer” and vowed to continue his hunt for reinforcements.
The Whites boss also moved to ease the expectations on fit-again Clayton after his return from a serious knee injury.
The youngster impressed against Brighton, his first start since December, but Lennon said the 21-year-old would not be pushed too hard.
“It was a really serious injury,” he said, “so obviously we’ll keep a close eye on how he recovers from the game and what we want to do with him next weekend.
“It was very encouraging but I don’t want to load too much pressure on him too soon and run any risks.”

Sorry but why is it ridiculous we are thinking of loaning him out?
Since he was put through clean on goal in the last minute against Cardiff last Christmas - his shot nearly clearing the North Stand - he has hardly played one good game for us. OK, I know he was injured but the fact he has been a passenger in most games is sadly the truth.
This season he is a pale shadow of the player he was at the start of last season. No-one can deny that. I don't know whether his problems now still relate to injuries, or whether they are mentally related or whether he simply doesn't like Luzon. But how long can you carry a player - particularly one on high wages - until he is better? You can't do it indefinitely.
IV probably earns more in a month than many of us do in a year. Good luck to him for that but frankly if you are on those sort of wages - particularly at a club like Charlton - you need to produce. If for whatever reason he can't (or is it won't) do it, then sorry but he needs to be moved on.
I've seen nothing this season to convince me he can re-find his old form. So as far as I'm concerned, thanks for the memories Igor but it's probably best for all concerned we go our different ways.
That's not what I mean by "ridiculous". You know that the position of striker is the most difficult to fill, right? Everywhere in the world. We are supposed to have paid €2.4m for him. That is sweet fa on the English market. Fulham paid £11m for McCormick.
One year ago we had acquired a player who, despite being young, and with no previous experience here, instantly started terrifying defences and scoring good goals with head as well as feet. This clearly wasn't a fluke, since his potential had been recognised by both the Belgian and Angolan international setups, even if he was deemed not quite ready by Copenhagen, who play regularly in the UCL, and are therefore a bit better than us. Did nobody quite understand what a valuable asset we had therefore acquired? Not many Lifers, apparently, from the comments here. But I would have expected the club, with its tight budget, and emphasis on developing young players, to be more diligent. Yet we know that Igor suffered an achilles injury in the autumn which coincided with a downward spiral. I presume enough people know that an achilles injury is very difficult to get over. It requires rest. He didn't get rest. Not only was he played, but he was played as a lone striker, a position for which he is clearly unsuited, in a team which was falling apart.
We are now told that there is a dispute within the medical and fitness team about his fitness. Sorry, what kind of dispute? We don't know whether his achilles has healed or not, but everyone can see he's not fit. He's manifestly overweight. Therefore he's not fit. Are we to believe that he is wilfully neglecting his diet, and/or refusing to train? We are told that the problem is that Luzon has not seen the real Igor. What???? Luzon came from Belgium. Igor is widely known in Belgium as a young talent. Give me a break, Guy. But then you are the same Guy in the video who professed not to know anything about Charlton Athletic, less than a year ago. Better to shut up and get on with your job, which is getting the best out of all the players at your disposal. Especially, quality strikers.
As for, finally, sending him out on loan. If he was sent out to a Div 1 club, as a valuable asset, who needs care and attention to get fit, and in return can score some goals for that club, personally that seems to me like a good plan. It is quite obvious that a mooted loan move to Bolton bloody Wanderers doesn't fit into that category. Indeed it suggests to me that Bolton think we are wasting a valuable asset, and they smell a bargain, even if they have to be patient and use their back room expertise. And I don't like that. Not one little bit.

I'm sure the double marking at Rotherham away about a Year ago when the two CB's took turns in kicking Igor was the start.
If Players sued their clubs when they were being asked/told to play when not 100% fit the game would grind to a halt.
A decision should of been made in April about an op ? maybe it was.
Because of the undisclosed nature of all things CAFC now. Transfers/ambition/injuries. No more Richard Murray saying he didn't rate Matt Holland the season before we signed Him !
I would like to know what Igor has done in the Summer to try to keep fit ? Chris Solly has missed so many training sessions with the team over 4 seasons but still had his own fitness program to follow, and has stayed the same weight. Different injury but a player must help himself.

Prague, I know you and I don't really agree on this but your reply is a very well argued piece that I can scarcely disagree with. I'll even give it a like!
Like you, I would love to know why the guy has fallen apart (although I suspect you touch on the reasons in your reply). I'm not a fan of the Duchatelet regime and sadly I suspect this is could well be, as you say, more evidence of their incompetence.
Sadly though I sometimes think relationships just reach the end of the road. It happens all the time in both personal and working relationships. I can't help but think this is one of those examples where it will be better for each party to go their own way. Let Igor go somewhere where he MIGHT get fit and flourish and let us - for once - try and get a decent fee for him and re-invest it in a quality replacement.
We see a lot about players ages being banded about.
Why people think a 23 year old won't be able to get fit again is beyond me. If he does go i'll wager that he'll score at least 15 goals in his first full season if he stays fit.
I don't really understand the argument that Luzon has never seen what a fit Igor can do, surely somewhere in the club are tapes from this time last season when Igor was looking like one of the signings of the summer by any club in the Championship.
Personally i still believe he is the best natural goal scorer we have had at the club since BWP, he has just been let down by the RD extremely strict budget policy.
I just hope for his sake that our club has not done any serious long term damage to his career.
Luzon hasn't seen a fully fit Moussa, but he's back in the fold

That is the point GGA is making, I think. But Cawley was offering it as an excuse.
We should not allow ourselves to buy the argument of " relationships" breaking down. Unfortunately with club owner and manager, it has to be that way, even if it's should not be. But manager, sorry head coach, and player.? I think the best ones find the way to make it work with the best players. They don't have to be friends.

When Luzon has to work within such an unnecessary small budget we can't afford to lose the only striker we have, who when fully fit, we can be confident can take those chances, just because of a clash of personalities, as i doubt we will get a loan replacement in from a Premier League club who is not an unproven youngster on the money potentially freed up in the budget by Igor heading up north for a few months.
Seems like another potential shambles if Luzon & the club don't sort this out.

Seems a long time ago Guy was running down the touch line and bundling the Charlton players......
That's what kills me. I thought after that Hull win, look how united we were. Fighting till the end. Getting over the disappointment of a last minute equaliser. How much difference a month has made since then
I really think things aren't right behind the scenes at the moment. It's frustrating because the club has made a move to tie players like JBG down in the summer, a player who was potentially considering 'better things'. I thought the summer and the transfer dealings were a statement of intent.
I know it's a long season and a young squad, but it all feels a little off to me given the QPR and Hull games to where we are now
