People in this country ARE being affected by immigration - my husband has experience of this working in the kitchen of a pub/restaurant.

Before Romanians were allowed free access, my husband was paid well above the minimum wage, as it was difficult to get people to do the job. By paying above the minimum wage they were able to recruit British workers.

When Romanians were allowed free access to the labour market my husband's wages did not increase until it was forced on his employer with this year's increase.

For 4 years he had no wage increase. The Romanians were happy to work for minimum wage and whenever anyone left, one of their friends or family was waiting for a job and it wasn't necessary to advertise. Consequently a British worker had no chance of being employed.

All the other employees doing the same work as my husband speak very little English and when they work together, speak their own language and my husband feels like a foreigner in his own country.

At the age of 62 it is not easy for him to find alternative employment so he is stuck with it for now.

With the greatest respect, it's not a Romanians fault that your old man is doing kP work in his 60s. There's part of a generation that presumed they had jobs for life so didn't bother learning skills or trades. My stepdad is that Same and finds himself scanning bags at a airport or doing delivery work.

At least he's getting off his arse and trying to make a crust, rather than going on welfare or studying for useless degree's that he'll never get to use.
Well yer, obviously ... but that wasn't the point was it ? I'm responding to a direct complaint that unskilled non English speaking Romanian are coming here and stealing jobs. I'm sorry, but if at 62 you are only qualified to wash dishes, then it's isn't a immigrants fault

@queensland_addick sorry if this has already been covered but where has trump gone into detail about his plans? (I have skipped about 8 pages from yesterday)

Repeal obamacare has been a republican policy for years but I haven't seen any hard policy plans being discussed by him.

There were general ideas but actually getting them in place will require more.

It all goes back to things we have discussed a month or so ago, and probably before, that there are vast swathes of people who feel abandoned by the establishment. Their jobs have gone, their way of life eroded and they have voted for someone who promised to get it back for them.

This vote was about bring jobs back to communities that have been gutted and putting the country first again. (This could cover either brexit, I still hate that word, or trump)

Yes there have been scapegoats and that is, and should always be, unpalatable. It will cause a rise in hate crime as those who hold more extreme versions of these views feel that they are more justified. But they don't represent everyone who voted with them.

A few people have said that this is a wake up call to those with more liberal views, and we need to stop hitting the snooze button. I am guilty of this, when it came to the EU I was disconnected from those who were struggling with jobs, I didn't want to discriminate against immigrants, but failed to see that I might be seen as discriminating against those in my own country that were struggling as well.

And it is the same in the states, the liberal minded individuals are seen, rightly or wrongly, to have the wealth to be liberal. But they are seen to do it at the expense of those in heartland America. So the heartland rail against these ideas, it pushes people conservative because these views are conservative by their very nature. Help me, help us, rebuild our world first. Trump has given them something to hold onto by promising to bring jobs back and put America first, it will be a big job to live up to that promise.

If we want more liberal views to succeed then we need to help everyone including these people who have been left behind. Especially these people. It's very easy with liberal views to go out and help people outside your own country because they are worse off, but we seem to forget that there are people in our country that need help as well, they are worse off as well, and the more we forget the further they fall behind.

Maybe we need some more conservative liberalism, we need to help those at home as well as abroad. And once they have faith in us we can address issues like equality, racism and sexism better. We can engage with people with these views and try to change them rather than just marginalise them all and tar everyone with the same brush. If we don't then we will end up back in the same place again.

Sorry this has gone on for quite a while so I'll stop. Early morning stream of consciousness.

    7 pages back
If I go back now and find it's not there...... ;)
  • Events of the past 5 months have confirmed what I have long thought, and that is that many people in Politics and the Media, and almost every person with left wing sympathies are totally out of touch with with the feelings of the common working class person.

America just like Britain have voted with their heart. Clearly the policies of Nigel Farage and Donald Trump appealed to an awful lot of working class people who all feel badly let down by the mainstream politicians.

Charlton Life is dominated by these same people that think they know best and dismiss anyone who dares to question their opinions.
I predicted before Brexit that Essex man would vote on mass to Leave and was proved right. I also said on this site last week that if I was American I would have voted Trump.

For both comments and I was ridiculed by some of left wing "luvvies" on this site who once again have been proved wrong.

I will make a third prediction and that is that over the next couple of years the working class people of Germany, France, Holland will all want to follow Britain and get out of the EU.

    This is just the start!

There certainly does seem to be a worldwide shift to the right in politics. Where as a left wing luvvie I do see a problem is that the Billericay Dickies of this world have spoken and yet I doubt if many of them actually know what they have voted for. Certainly Brexit with Farage didn't have a policy and Trump it appears to me has off the hip sound bite policies none of which will have a hope in hell of coming to fruition.

What exactly do Billericay Dickies want in policy direction ? I don't have a clue based on the seismic shifts we have recently seen.

  • @Jdredsox & @IA, It would literally take me hours to type the details articulated during his 1 hour plus speeches, even if my memory was up to it, which it's not.
I'm sure all his speeches are available on YouTube, far easier that way for you and for me. Search for "Contract with Americans" it was a great speech, but got next to zero publicity.
I have spent many hours composing long posts on this thread, only for them to be derided and mocked by the usual suspects. It's really not worth the time and effort especially as the ultimate goal has now been reached.
No doubt the finer details of his policies will be formulated in the weeks and months ahead with experts and advisors in the respective fields. I think the stock market is already telling us that his plans to cut corporate taxes and reduce regulation is going to provide a huge boost to the economy in the long run.

    What is the ultimate goal?

I'm just looking for a brief description of the policies and what his supporters expect to see him do. I want to understand what it is exactly that his supporters want from the future.
  • Well isn't this just so f*cking hilarious. Looks like some of you should have studied the evidence about the Clinton Foundation that I posted earlier (and was subsequently proved to be true by Wikileaks), instead you continued to believe the crooked, biased leftist media, the crooked, biased Polls and your Twitter feeds, where the likes of Leuth seems to get all his information lol.
The game is now up for you Marxists and leftists. You have infected academia, the media and the Hollywood set. Your social engineering ideals have brought the Western World and western culture to the edge of destruction. Your brand of PC, Identity politics has caused terrible devision, animosity, and left huge numbers of people afraid to even open their mouths for fear of being labelled "racist, xenophobic, homophobic" etc, simply because they want secure borders, safety for their families, jobs, or even because they simply believe in the traditional definition of marriage.
Well, the silent majority has now spoken. First with Brexit, now Trump, and next watch for France and Germany to go exactly the same way.
Seriously though, how out of is the media these day's? How out of touch is CL?Where are all the conservatives? (Too frightened to speak out probably for fear of being labelled a Jimmy Savile sympathiser or a bigot, as I have been on this thread!) The mainstream media and Charlton Life are certainly not representative of the majority are they ( Trump is winning the popular vote as well BTW). 65 pages here of overwhelmingly anti Trump sentiment, and yet the majority of Americans voted for him, very strange!
Suck it up all you Lefties, this is where the kick back begins, you got so far but ultimately you failed, just as socialism always fails, but not before it has caused immeasurable damage. Mwahahhahaaahaah!

    I like you.

Imagine the knicker twisting that will go on, on here if Le Pen gets in over in France hahaha.

The revolution has started people, change is a coming
Here's my question to you both. What change do you actually want ?

'Only qualified to wash dishes' what's wrong with that? Dishes need washing, roads need sweeping, toilets need cleaning etc etc.

An indigenous British man, willing and able to work, is deprived of work in his own country because of immigration. No sensible person would blame individual immigrants as they in their turn are doing what they perceive will improve their own situation. However nobody can blame such people for voting Brexit when given the opportunity. For them it's no lose. There will be no immigration controls within the EU because the Government can't do it. Outside the EU there just might be and if not well nothings changed and the Government and Establishment has got a bloody nose.

The point was that 'the media' spread unfounded fears about the effects of immigration and @ME14addick has demonstrated extremely well that for many people those 'fears' are not unfounded at all but affect them on a daily basis.

I do not have the figures to hand Len but there are an awful lot of jobs and industries that will not cope should Eastern European migrants stop coming. Road haulage is one that readily springs to mind.

There is also the need as a nation to address exactly why there are some "very good" jobs with excellent career pathways that the "indigenous British man / woman" do not want to do. The classic example being nursing.

If we are left with solely the indigenous population to carry out such jobs and there are a lot more examples then we are in big trouble.

  • Were the media really biased against Trump?

Interesting you left out the newspapers that did back Trump.

Incredibly patronising comment. And one that is not worthy of anyone to make.

You're obviously a young man with little experience of life. You'll learn as you get older. And hopefully get a little wiser as well.

Fact is there are many highly qualified people in their 50s and 60s who can't find work in the fields they were trained in. Companies often don't want older people, no matter how experienced they are, because it is cheaper to employ younger people. And they are easier to manipulate.

I'll give you another example of why your comment is so wrong. Mate of mine was a highly skilled IT man. Worked for a FTSE 100 company until his job was outsourced to India. Aged 58, he couldn't get back into the IT field and eventually, in desperation to earn some money so he didn't lose his house, went to work as a security guard in Asda in Tilbury. Stories he would tell me about doing that would make your hair curl.

But he stuck at it. I have nothing but respect for him for doing it.

So I'm the one wrong for generalising, but it's fine to blame the Romanians ? Btw, I used my stepdad as an example so I'm not completely talking out of my arse as I've seen it first hand

Firstly the government have severley restricted the places available for student nurses so created a problem. I think this might be changing now.

Secondly it has been stated so many times that I can't believe that you didn't note it, nobody but nobody on here or a politician has said that they want immigration stopped. All that is demanded is that the uk is allowed the right to control immigration as works best for the country.

I'm off to start a nine hour shift soon. By the time I get home I'm certain this question won't be answered.
The end of social engineering, the end of political correctness and the "I'm offended" culture, secure borders, law and order, jobs for indigenous citizens, justice, honesty, a fair and balanced media, an education system that teaches conservatism rather than indoctrinating every single student with only socialist views, safety for our families, encourage aspiration and hard work by lowering taxes, discouraging welfare dependancy.
There, you won't agree with any of it, but that's my answer.
    Yes Mein Fuhrer.

    I
    Sums up Lefties !
Frankly your answer deserves it. Explain to me exactly what you mean with your sound bite answer. What social engineering ? Were you not offended by my response ? What does secure borders mean. We have them now. We don't have enough indigenous people either capable or wanting to do all the jobs we have. A fair and balanced media ????? Wtf. So it's ok to teach conservatism. Indoctrination .... Just really ? Safety for our families. That's the preogative of the right is it ? Tell me where aspiration is discouraged. It's there now isn't it ? Work hard at school. Get qualified. Get decent job and earn decent money. As for discouraging a welfare culture then that's where we agree as long as it's fair.
You lost, it's over, socialism is finished in our lifetimes, too much damage! France next, then Germany. Get used to it.
    Mwhahahhaa

Bad form that @shine166 pal imo.

But it's a classic display of "because my industry ain't affected by it, the problem doesn't exist and you must get your information from the Daily Mail".

Then you hear "British people are too lazy to get off their arses to do unskilled jobs", yet when we hear that they do and their wages are pushed down, it's "well you shoulda got yourself educated or a trade" and even that don't work in some trades does it ref. the Uber thread!

What can be done? Points based system where only skilled people from ALL OVER THE WORLD are free to apply imo (and yes, even if that meant I would need to apply to live in France).

Do indigenous (aboriginal) citizens get jobs before immigrants in Australia out of interest?
That question is wrong on so many levels Rodders
