Exactly why I've just backed the draw at 8/1 lol. Bivol looks brilliant
  • What a performance, that was absolutely superb
  • I hope there is no fuckery on the scorecards
  • Judges scored it exactly how I did... what a performance
  • Wowzer, still only by 2 rounds on all the cards

Well done Bivol, steroids got Alvarez so far but couldn't make him have longer arms
  • Lol at Canelo thinking he won that... any rounds that could have gone either way I gave to Canelo and still had him down by 2. He got outboxed, wasn't to do with the weight. He shouldn't entertain a rematch, Beterbiev is the one we need to see
  • Wow, and he was only talking about fighting Usyk earlier in the week. I doubt we'll hear him mention that again in a hurry.

So if they had all given the scrappy last round to Canelo it would have been a draw?

Watched it ‘as live’ after getting up this morning and that would have been another classic judging decision.

It was the right result in the end, but the judges should still get some proper scrutiny and questioning of that scoring.

  • Light Heavy .. a weight too high for Alvarez
  • Just watched it back... had it Bivol by 4 rounds. Really hope they make Bivol vs Beterbiev

    Exactly this.
As for him talking about fighting Usyk he would get badly battered.

The third GGG fight then call it a day is, I would suggest, a sensible route. But not sure if there was a rematch clause in the Bivol fight - if there is it will happen.

There is a rematch clause, but i'm not sure Canelo should take it yet. I think he should have the third GGG fight later this year and then if he wants, go for a rematch with Bivol this time next year.
  • Don't really get the obsession with moving weight divisions, has been the case since Pacquiao.

Just stick to your natural weight, be a champion for 15 years and then retire as one of the best ever in your weight. Challenging guys half a foot taller than you is only going to end up one way.

Don't know about you, but I've certainly struggled to maintain weight as I've got older!

Men reach maximum physical strength in their thirties - and that comes with naturally increased muscle mass and weight. Canelo started at light-welter but could in no way do that now.
  • Sometimes it works.
    Sometimes it doesn't.
Tommy Hearns was successful at plenty of weights.
Admittedly he was freakishly tall for the lower weights

Tommy certainly was a freak - welter to cruiser is insane. What a fighter though!

Canelo is already short for the weight he's naturally in.

He's giving up way too much to be moving up any further.

It's a catch 22 outside of the heavyweight division when it comes to weight.

The majority of fighters starve themselves pre fight to make weight at an weight unnatural to them to then gorge on calories and water after the weigh in and have an advantage.  Too risky to risk fighting at near walk around weight when you'll be up against beasts who've cut weight to make the weight and then enter the ring at their bigger weights.

I fought someone at 13st 13 and they were 15st and it made a lot of difference  (as did the fact he was harder and a better boxer lol) even though technically we would have been in 2 different categories of weight if it had been a proper am or pro bout

At pro level I wonder how much the dieting and dehydration when cutting takes out of fighters and whether it actually saps them and creates and disadvantage on fight night. But it obviously works as it's been done for years and unless everyone agreed to fight at near natural weight will continue.

Canelo obviously didn't eat enough of his "high protein" mexican beef in the lead up to the fight.

Agreed, what is he, 5’ 9”? He’s a welterweight height but so good he can dominate super middleweight. But that should be his max.
  • Mike Tyson is about 5' 10" .. but he is/was a one off
  • Mike Tyson is about 5' 10" .. but he is/was a one off
Marciano was half an inch taller than Tyson and Frazier was under 6 feet
  • Different times, heavyweights now are colossal whereas Ali, Liston, Frazier, Tyson, Spinks were all give or take 6ft nowadays any of them fighting Lewis, Briggs, Fury, Joshua, either Klitcshko would be ridiculous.

Not sure I agree (I usually do with you) - just my opinion of course, but Mike Tyson at his best beats any heavyweight fighting today, as does Foreman at his best (he is 6'3"). Ali (also 6'3") at his best beats any heavyweight in history. Ali beat Ernie Terrell (6'6") in a unification fight - not just beat but destroyed and humiliated him in the famous 'what's my name' fight.

The current holder of most of the belts - is 6'3".

Oh mate, I'm not saying fir example that any of the big fellas necessarily beat Mike Tyson (although him in his prime v a peak Lennox would have been a barnstormer) but those extra few inches, Fury and Klitchsko are 6' 9" Lennox must be about the same and Joshua can't be far off that, make such a big difference. I think Tyson is 5 9 or 10 and thats a whole foot his is then giving away against Fury who also weighs 20 stone.

Usyck and Haye are definitely exceptions, to the extreme in Usycks case but they are both 6 3 maybe 6 4

Guys like Tyson,Marciano Frazier, would basically transform themselves into pocket battleships ,head down and come storming in,hitting anything, arms, body, ribs ,until the guard dropped and the target was there. They seemed oblivious to punishment.
Incidentally,I have just finished watching the Ali 8 part life story, how those fights against Frazier did not result in  a death,is a miracle. This fully justifies the 15 rounds being reduced to 12,also if ever there was a case for a ref stopping a fight and calling it a draw(I know this cant happen)that 3rd fight was it.
  • Great domestic tear up between Buatsi and Richards. Feel like Buatsi will struggle with the step up to world level though, too easy to hit

Used to train in same gym as Richards (Palmers in Bellingham- now sadly closed) and he was something special.  Very humble and nice lad too and pleased to see he's made it to the level he has.

Funnily enough went to my school n'all albeit a good few years after according to Wikipedia (which I'm sure will be of avid interest to all)
