Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet sneaks out of club to avoid protesting fans

  • Sadly this reinforces my view that we are an unimportant, insignificant minor project in his empire. We are a minor interest to him. Money relatively unimportant given the mans wealth and we are an experiment to satisfy his statistical view of the world and how that can be successfully applied to football. We are a side hobby.

He doesn't need or want to sell. Our protests are frankly pissing in the wind. Do we really think that wearing some jazzy shirts and a black and white scarf is going to impact on him ? I think the club is fucked.

What our support base will look like in two years I dread to think.

This is my way of thinking as well. Bang on the money.

However, protest 'brought us' a more British team set up no matter how shallow the squad is or despite the league position...
Protest have brought charlton fans together , something the club have actively tried to stop.

I truely believe that Protests are now a more longer term thing rather than a short term solution!
Failure to get promoted this season would mean there is an increased likelyhood that we will be in league one for another couple of years which means for the next few years RD has to fund more and more of the increasing debt as he will have sold profit players the seasons before without bringing any in...

So in the long term - perhaps 3-5 years (is he isn't gone before that) , the ownership will feel more problems and that's without the dwindling season ticket holders!

I fear you are right. Until now I thought the protests mattered and that the club were concerned about losing fans etc. It now seems apparent that in their mind they have written the protesters off and are looking to build on what they have. Not saying that's right, but that seems to be the way it is.

Look at the evidence:- marginalising protesters, especially with PR initiatives, and using pro-CAFC groups to belittle protesters; banning banners etc from grounds (something they would have struggled with given pre-boycott/relegation numbers; meetings with pro-regime groups, largely aimed at being able to kid the media they are engaging with supporters

I fear that unless even this approach goes tits up - and it won't, even if we get stuck in League 1 - then Roland and that dreadful woman (Katrien, not Sue) are here for the foreseeable.

Surely that means the opposite to what you feel?

They've actively sought to divide their own customer base , folded under pressure when fans have gained power over them as well as made themselves a laughing stock every time they try to show the world that they're not idiots!

Katrien will go when a better jobs comes her way, or when she feels that she can't win anymore...
Roland will go when his 'efforts' are more than their worth - which all things staying the same will be sooner rather than later!

We can't let a planned PR piece do what exactly what it's designed and posted to do- put us off!

We need to stop the 'wobble' in boycotts and whether we think Roland will be here at a certain date ... This is OUR club
No wobble just a worrying glimpse at reality., It may be a short-term last grasp at retaining control over the wider club. I hope so. Or it could be a sign that he really doesn't care less if we support or not, he's going nowhere.

Katrien Meire is much happier now that the protesters don't come to the football matches. It ruins her day off, spoils her free lunch and makes her look bad in front of her guests.

The boycott is somewhat counterproductive in that regard. Hopefully, football for a fiver will get a big crowd of people keen to let the Belgians know that everyone still has steaming hump with them.

Protests during the game won't be supported by a large amount of people, so boycotting doesn't harm that as it wouldn't be supported anyway!

The trick now is to go back to protests before and after the game, to show people still are unhappy!
If these are ongoing if and when things are crap (aka not promoted etc) then more and more will join in!

If he didn't care, would he be over here talking to 'fans' and would they even bother putting out an article on it via the OS?

Even if you accept that he doesn't spend much time on CAFC matters because it is such a small part of his empire, that doesn't account for him sneaking around, desperately trying to avoid fans not hand-picked to massage his ego. And presume that as we aren't really that important to him, he no longer claims to watch every match on a stream (which we all knew was bollocks anyway)

Squirrel face says Duchatelet watches all the games on a stream and I believe her.

Shame he hasn't got the balls to face the other fans (as in not the target 20k group - whatever that is)

That's probably due to him being a coward and/or being an egotist who doesn't like being told what's right when it burst their bubble!

I don't feel comfortable with branding a whole group "collaborators"

They are not quislings willing to spout nonsense in return for a smile from the CEO like Commerford IMHO

I think they are fans who believe that they can work with and influence the SMT to improve the club.

That they still think this after the fiasco with the £3 and £2.50 ticket charges, the way the Jimmy Seed stand sign was hijacked for PR and Roland saying he is only willing to give a 1.5% commitment to Charlton amazes and saddens me.

I think they have it totally wrong and are being ignored on anything that really matters, used when it suits the SMT, laughed at by KM and TK behind their backs.

And KM sat in front of them and admitted Thomas "Mowgli" Driesen is still working for the club and still they haven't cottoned on?

They are misguided and think that they can change things from the inside. In most cases I would agree that it's better to be inside the tent pissing out but with this regime that time has long passed.

Isn't often I disagree with Henry... but I do on this. That might be a fair perspective to have had at the outset, but it is painfully obvious by now that they are being used by Meire and her cronies and that they will have no significant input at all. They are providing the convenient "cover" story of fan engagement to the regime and should stop now, or they are betraying the thousands of Charlton fans that see the regime for the conniving, poisonous bastards they are.
Isn't that what I said in the next three paras?
Kind of, but I was responding more to your opening phrases. We agree they are at least "misguided" but I do think that it goes beyond that. It is clear that they are being used, to the detriment of the club. Either they can't see that (which is hard to believe) or they are getting off on the contact/exposure. If the latter they are just as much "collaborators" and "quislings" as the EKA. Not digging you out, just a different emphasis on the conclusion.
  • Comments on Roland saying about fans mixing, seems Sue Perks is now going for a job in the UN

I imagine if Roland changed his mind next week Sue would quickly change her mind too.

Lovely idea but come on, they need to get real.

  • Sue Perks wants our fans to do what? Intermingle with the opposition fans;

  • So is the whole point of Duchatalet's experiment is to get us addicks to sit holding hands with Millwall as we congratulate them on yet another win?
  • "As part of the club’s ongoing commitment to meet informally with official supporters groups on matchdays"

So when's the meeting with CAST?
  • Lets have a cup of tea with lovely Millwall and West Ham and Birmingham and Leeds fans and discuss the weather, then all mingle and have a jolly good old time and leave shaking hands and trying to rip their f*****ing heads off.

Don't think they are getting off on the exposure as they are hiding away. They aren't being quoted either unlike quisling Commerford.

I think they realise it is crap but can't bring themselves to admit it.

Very true and it's very sadly true.

He's now not selling....for an added reason because the fans have got under his skin.

I have absolutely no idea how to shift this c*nt.

The man is cold and has no internal feeling.

Exactly what he wants the world of football to become.

    Very depressing for charlton athletic
