Two stickies at the top of the forum, one about the most memorable day in our club's history, the other about our current messy situation. Switching between these two is like being in and out of a dream. What a staggering difference there is. Sometimes I wonder if we'll ever be back in the Premier League? Last time we were in the third division we were fortunate to have SCP but now with the Belgians in charge I simply can't get excited for anything they do.

I agree, JessieAddick, it seems so unreal that I feel numb. I have no excitement about the now but feel elated when thinking back to that great day. All we can do is hope that these present idiots pack up and go before the club is beyond saving.

Quite an achievement to get this thread up to 28 pages. As far as I'm aware, since Riga left, we've been knocked back by Chris Wilder and the bookies have changed their odds a few times to reflect a couple of 50p bets that have been placed on Nigel Adkins and Billy Davies. Other than that, Fat Mandy's finally f*%ked off, and Katrien's sat around in her pyjamas, watched a bit of telly and ordered a new filofax from Amazon.

Nothing of any substance has actually happened for about a fortnight, and the good people of Charlton Life have put more effort towards keeping this thread ticking over than Katrien has put towards finding us a new manager head coach regime apologist.

Revealing too that I've come on this thread without having read pages 5-27 because I don't really care who they appoint. I discovered Charlton Life when Parky was sacked and I was trying to find out who was in the running.
    What a state of affairs.

I've got page 96 on the sweep stake for when we appoint a manager so don't hold your breath !

^^^^ this .. and makes the appointment of a 'chief scout/recruiter' even more out of sync

Normally I'd say there is a fair degree of dramatising to the fact that at this stage a team remains managerless. Not ideal of course, but not a complete disaster.

However, given the wholesale changes that are required, and the lack of an established supporting structure around the player side of the club, day by day this is making it more an more difficult to gain any form of confidence that next season won't be any less a disaster than the last.

It would have been known that Riga would be going / not retained a fortnight before the end of the season, at the latest. This should have been resolved weeks ago now

Budget constraints plus Roland's busy schedule means that only one potential candidate is lucky to be sent to Belgian every 3 weeks

Their defence would be that they had Wilder lined up and he then decided not to join.

But that happens, it is a risk to all clubs looking for a manager.

    For example

"Alan Nixon ‏@reluctantnicko 1m1 minute ago
Forest. Manager search goes on. Think money being offered isnt attracting people they want."

My fear is that the longer the UK search drags on Roland will lose patience and impose Nobby or someone else

Why would anyone want it, can you really see them allowing full control to anyone. She's above any sort of people ever telling her what to do.

Owen Coyle returning to England looks like heading back to Bolton ?

He's been there before and cocked it up.

We're we not linked with him before?

Your thinking of Bill Owen. ;)

We were relegated on the 19th April. Tohave no Manager in place over a month later shows the clowns they really are. It appears they only had Wilder and no plan B.

With the exception of Peeters all of their appointments have been people they know and could have included Nobby. They appear to be a laughing stock within the British game and their chances of getting anyone credible must be low.

I always thought when they ditched Powelly that would not look good in the inner circle of Football. Here was someone who was greatly respected and it was quickly out there how he had not been allowed to do his job. That reputation within the British game has clearly stuck

Does anyone kind of wish we'd employed Nobby Vinegar instead of Riga? I'm genuinely intrigued what he would have been like. We went down anyway so instead of dragging Riga through the mire again it would have been nice to hear that Nobby had been having indoor training sessions where the players hit shots at benches and introduced a 'no over head height' rule in games. At this point everything the club does is worthless in a footballing sense so it may as well be funny too

I'd rather they hadn't confirmed relegation by hiring Karel Fraeye.

As has been said earlier, we are waiting until Bolton choose their new manager, and then we have what is left

Former Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell is the new favourite for the Bolton Wanderers job, according to Bolton News.

Making a fool of herself at networking events/opportunities doesn't help either.

I genuinely think that's what gaffertape looks like when he's trimming the privet hedge around his Belgian bunker

It just goes to show what utter contempt they have for 'us customers'
NO COMMUNICATION, WHY can't they just keep us up to date with what is going on?

I expect they will announce the new manager tomorrow (Friday 27th) - just so that it can't make front page news as the Mourinho announcement will cover it up.

I do wonder if they're waiting on the outcome of the playoffs and have their eye on someone...or am I giving them too much credit? I'm sure it's just the usual Katrien Meire incompetence.

How do you think the play offs are going to effect the bargain basement manager we're going to employee?

probably would have been OK until Nobby realised that goals scored from rebounds off the advertising boards behind the goal don't count...
    Au contraire

I hope it's the Plymouth manager ..... that would be an excellent appointment
    Not now Colin.

So there must be clowns in charge Blackburn Everton Bolton Villa Notts Co and few others as well
Could not care less about others, I care about us.

On planet earth we have been relegated through mainly bad managerial appointments, and now we have no Manager for 1 whole month when plans should be in place for next season.

And you think we are going up!

Why no info from the club? Tell us you are looking, you have a short list, you are not on holiday, you have a plan, anything?

We know the are looking. I really think it is better if they keep quiet until a deal is done as they only make themselves look even sillier when they talk too soon ala Wilder.

They could be waiting to see if Parky is going to be replaced at Bradford ?
