Very poor all round. Didn't like the body language today.
Every team seems to employ a strong pressing game against us and we don't have the quality to make quick passes and break through. We just stand off and give teams time to play, which given our weak midfield is a gift.
In isolation it was pretty poor but not as awful as some will says. First half shocking, embarrassing perhaps. Second half better because we brought on Ajose (note Slade) but I still celebrated our goal, how could you not? I said it before and I'll say it again I think Slade is a dud. Bigger problems than him at the moment but with the squad we have we should be doing far better.
Nightmeire of the a journey in meant I arrived 30 minutes late, so missed most of the rubbish first half. Did see the goal, a good cross by Konchesky with right foot.
Despite the weather forecast, yes it had to rain just to add to the enjoyment.
We had a decent spell from around 55 minutes onwards and probably deserved the draw, though there were a number of controversial decisions by the referee. Not sure why Ajose didn't take the first penalty.
The usual idiots who who to local Charlton away games as well.
Ajose running over and giving it to Slade after he scored says it all about how the team see him. Fox had to keep them apart at full time.
Shite game, wank atmosphere.
Wow that doesn't auger well for dressing room harmony, still I expect Brussel will say he doesn't mind a player reacting like that if his actions by dropping him have fired him up because that's exactly what he wants.......... hmmm .
Glass half full would say that our goal difference is +3: same as Bristol Rovers and Wimbledon who are 5th and 6th. If - somehow - Slade can shift up a gear ever so slightly we're in with a chance of the Play-Offs. Most of us would be happy with that.
Glass half empty would say that if we carry on our current form through to next May we'll finish with 54-55 points, relatively few defeats and an ok goal difference. We'd survive but it'd be drab and frustrating, to say the least.
I've no idea which way it'll pan out.
Good signs? Teixeira back on the bench. Ulvestad and Magennis playing well.
Bad signs? Leaving aside how Slade sets the team up (on which there is a consensus) people really need to stop bawling out the players. They don't pick the team or decide the set up. It'll cost us if it carries on.
We have some good players so why are we scrapping draws against teams that get altitude sickness when they get into the second tier? Yes, the players have to perform on the day, but constant underperformance speaks volumes about the structure around them.
The first half was the poorest half I've seen from us all season (which is saying something) but the reaction from some fans at half time including some serious should know betters in their 50s and beyond was embarrassing and the subsequent stand off with the players was horrible to witness. Rudd and Pearce looked seriously pissed off and Lookman gave a bit back although I think he said "calm down" which was fair enough. I know they were poor but how is it going to be beneficial giving players that much abuse when there is 45 minutes left? Despite the abuse, the second half was a bit better and, if Ajose takes both penalties, we might have nicked it although that would have been a huge smash and grab. Notable that there were no celebrations with the fans (that I witnessed anyway) when we did score.
I then had the pleasure of walking back to the station with the Charlton youth punching cars and abusing the police and station staff which perfectly topped off the afternoon. I'm definitely getting old.....
Although I disagree with the over the top half time reaction, you can't escape the fact that we did not play well again and the prospect of going on a winning run looks pretty remote at the moment.
Slade is useless but the players need to step up and grow some bollocks. Getting pelters for the first half performance was fully justified. They are supposed to be some of the divisions better players. Time for them to stop shirking and show it.
If you think people running half the length of the stand to call out individual players as c*nts within their earshot is justified with half the game to go then that is fair enough. I just can't be having it personally. The case of Morgan Fox is the most notable; he's a youth team product who gives 110% every single game and clearly cares about the club (can't believe a poster called him "disinterested") but also has his limitations. He had a bad game today but does he deserve the personal abuse he gets?
Be interested to hear from anyone there whether Slade actually started off 4-4-2 or whether Lookman was playing "in the hole" just behind Magennis or even whether it was a straight 4-5-1.
Worst point I have ever seen is get. Most depressing turgid performance I have ever seen. I have never considered leaving a game at half time before today but I very nearly did today.. we didn't get into the game until the last 10 mins. And the atmosphere was pretty flat. Because there was nothing to cheer about. I've defended Slade up until this point (mainly as I know we won't get anyone better) but today was appalling and the buck stops with him. Wrong players, wrong formation, wrong approach. All wrong. It's not like he tried something new and other didn't work, we've been trying it all season and it hasn't worked.
The fans were always gonna start on a negative with that line up. There had to be early positive signs to get us going and there just wasn't.
If the players can't get up for it against Gillingham I dread to think what the scum fixtures will be like...
Typical away day out. Nice meeting Ricky Otto, Elfsborg, dippenhall and clem snide as well as my old mate's acab and raytreacy69. Shame about the football. Shocking
Lots of comments about how good a squad of players we have. Got to disagree. Distinctly bang average for the most part. We'd get battered in the Championship with this lot. Mere will sell the best few and churn the rest in the close season again as she tries to reduce the operating loss. We have to get owners with an ounce of ambition and a strategy for the club that involves entertaining football and winning matches. A competent Chief Executive will also make a massive improvement.
Posting without reading and listening to Radio Kent on the short (compared to The Valley) drive home confirmed why.
The day started well with the aeroplane displaying the 'Duchatelet and Meire Time to Fly' banner but then the football intervened to spoil it.
My thoughts were that it was pretty awful, particularly on the first half, and that a soft yellow for Magennis after 20 minutes or so effectively negated him from putting himself about and that it was only a matter of time before we conceded with little or no hope of equalising with Big Josh neutralised. Sure enough Konchesky crossed and Bradley Dack, given the freedom of Priestfield Stadium by our defence, powerfully headed in with Rudd grasping fresh air.
1-0 to them at half time and the rain started to fall. 'Let's sack it off and go to the pub' I heard whist queuing for the Gents with my ancient bladder and about 10 people disappeared out the gate. I understood how they felt but the rain stopped more or less as the second half started with Ajose on for a Jackson who gave his best as always but can no longer compete at this level, at least with Crofts in the same side anyway. The midfield is simply too static.
The substitution had little impact initially as Gillingham dominated us with their hardworking pressing game and superior physical presence. With lumps like Nouble and that big number 50 against us it looked like the Under 16s playing the Under 7s. Somehow we weathered the storm and offered a threat of our own. Nelson, the sub Gillingham keeper, made two excellent saves the punch over the bar from Big Josh's header being the pick. Eventually we won a penalty, courtesy of Nouble's handball, and Ricky 'never missed a penalty' Holmes took the ball from Lookman's hands and proceeded to miss it! Although it was a nice height for him Nelson did well to save it to be fair as Ricky struck it well. I think we'd all reconciled ourselves to a 1-0 defeat despite our territorial dominance as the clock ticked down when we won another penalty. This time Nicky Ajose stepped up. Nelson tried the mind games getting booked for his trouble and Nicky cooly slotted it away to win us a point we just about deserved I suppose.
According to Radio Kent, or rather fans texting and emailing in, Charlton had a midfielder dressed in black who gave two soft penalties. They also thought it was a really good game a sentiment I have to disagree with other than maybe the last 15-20 minutes when we woke up a bit as described above.
I stand by my comment last week that hopefully there are 4 worst teams in the division as we won't be leaving it via the skylight.
Underwhelmed. Weeks, months, years.... and little sign of meaningful improvement under Duchatelet's ownership. Attendances will drop further and so might the club. The sad thing is that watching Charlton isn't an enjoyable experience.
Thrilling, exhilarating, unpredictable, a real rollercoaster ride. But let's not dwell for too long on my recent trip to Chessington.
Today was a tactical masterclass from Slade. He lured Gillingham into a false sense of security by setting us up to look absolutely hopeless in the first half. This also enabled him to benefit from the away fans' tactical advice on the way off the pitch at half time.
He went for a double whammy during the break, bringing on an extra forward and bunging the ref £50 to sort out a few corners and penalties in our direction and boom - nearly 3,000 Addicks can travel home tonight proud in the knowledge that, when it comes to drawing matches 1-1, we are peerless throughout world football.
Very well done to whoever sorted the plane out. Katrien, you've only got another thirty weeks or so of protests before the end of the season.
Not long back. I'd forgotten how much of a 'hole Priestfield is. Is the away stand the longest 'temporary stand' in history ? The seats were so worn that most of them left crap all over those that bothered to sit on them. First half disgraceful. Russell Slade really has not got a clue. He has the nucleus of a relatively good team but either chooses the wrong players, the wrong formation or a concoction of the 2. It seems the poison from above is sinking in to the players as both Fox and Lookman, particularly looked totally disinterested today. Konsa had a good game but in truth, if the club want to get out of this division Tex should have been playing, even if he wants to go. It's pretty simple, tell him he has a way out but he needs to show any perspective buyer what he brings to the team. Win win. Second half was an improvement but we didn't deserve anything from the game. Chasing the match from the second half, RS made a positive substitution changing JJ for Ajose who looked up for it. Other than Holmes and Josh we had little or no attacking intent. To then take off Josh for Novak it really demonstrated that RS has no idea. Surely Lookman, who had been relatively ineffective all game, should have been subbed? I might get criticised for saying this but I was not surprised to see some of our support behave as they did. Following and enjoying watching Charlton takes something special these days. We need to be united in removing our unwanted owner and his sidekick from the club unfortunately, it seems we have too many fractions within now. Loved the fly by ad from CARD, well done.

We were utterly shite.
The buck stops with the tubby fool in charge. I'm sure it will be our fault.
Carry on like this and we'll go down.
Every team seems to employ a strong pressing game against us and we don't have the quality to make quick passes and break through. We just stand off and give teams time to play, which given our weak midfield is a gift.

And we could have nicked it at the end which would have been a travesty
Centre of midfield is so weak
Not that I'am supporting Slade.

Of we can't put up a fight in CM with 3 on 2 then we might as well go 2-2. They've won that battle anyway let's try and win out wide and up front...

Shocking
I thought it must be because Slade was on his way out the door.
Tactics were poor - all that "centre-circle, out to the wing, back to the centre, back to the keeper" dross.
Or it was - 1 up front, "hit him a long ball, he doesn't win the header/ header goes astray, they attack us from the loose ball."
