The 2017 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread (Deadline Day from page 264)

I do like how Roland gives his young CEOs the opportunity to rise to the level of their incompetence - Katrien has just rewarded him by finding an even higher level. 6 strikers out and 1 unproven replacement (with the most amusing name since Anil Koc) really is quite stunning.2
-
Would be interested to know what we spent on transfers and got back in, and how much we've saved on wages. Not that that's a bad thing as we definitely have a better first 11 but makes you wonder why they couldn't have pushed the boat out a bit for a couple of proven quality strikers at this level.1
-
Of those Reeco is the only one who won't be played out of position. And he's only got a couple of cup appearances to his name. Reports were that he struggled a bit mid week.Swisdom said:I expect Clarke, KAG or Reeco to lead the line on Saturday.
This new kid sounds similar to KAG in that he isn't a lone striker and ive read he has played most of his games our wide. He sounds much more like an inside forward (one of the 3) in our set up not the 9 to lead the line.
Get your apologists hat off for one second. Do you really think this leaves us with enough depth up front?

With Phillips not going out on loan it really is time for him to step up and fight to be our number 1.0
-
Am I the only one who thinks it's been a great window? We've not lost any player that we were worried about losing. We've signed some really exciting players, if the first few games are anything to go by.
We are playing really well, and we have two players for every position in the team (allowing the fact we don't know about Dodoo yet) but let's be honest Novak was sh*t! There was almost a protest in itself when it was discovered he was starting the first game of the season.
I really believe we're in a strong position in this league. 100% still want our Belgian legion out but today is not the disaster people are claiming it is I don't think.9 -
There is no loan window. No incomings until January now unless they're a free agent.Swisdom said:

This signing feels like such a return to the weirdness of recent years.
Desperation, after selling an experienced striker to a rival. Clueless!!!!3 -

On the face of it this a very dissapointing end to the window think , we do have a first 11 which is very good but really dreading when the injuries and suspensions start adding up not mention our only proven striker will be away a few times international duty can't see us being anywhere near come January now3

Doodo hits the ground running? There is an old Polish rhetorical saying: "Have you ever seen a horse run and shit at the same time?"cantersaddick said:
No not in the slightest. We have let Novak leave and whilst he wasn't a world beater he was the only option we had who was a like for like (ish) replacement for Josh.Swisdom said:2 weeks ago Novak was fat, lazy and useless. Definitely not good enough for us. Now he's gone it's like we've sold Neymar.
Last week we hated that the club conducted it's business in public - now it's being done quietly people are moaning.
Nobody has seen Dodoo play so how about we give him a chance before dismissing him. He was incredibly highly rated at Leicester a couple of years ago so let's see how this plays out.
The new kid offers something different - and that's great - but leaves us short of a striker who suits our system. That's why we're disappointed to lose Novak. Because it leaves us short. As we have been left short every transfer window since these idiots arrived.
I hoped Josh stays fit and Doodo hits the ground running but if we don't get lucky there we really are screwed.
And come January this kids loan ends? We're left trying to find 2 strikers in the Jan window which is famous for good value and getting decent players in. Ohh yeah.
And in the summer? We're left with just Josh who will only have 1 year left on his contract.
3 -
And compared to the last few windows this has been a blinder, so cheers for that KR and scouting team.
Imagine what they could have done if they'd been given a few quid!7 -
RC, We have no depth up front. One injury, let alone two, then we are "cattled"
0 -
We have one striker. One.
The rest are reserve team kids.
7 -
So we go into Saturdays match with a semi retired midfielder at left back and whoever is striker has a max of 3 senior career goals. You couldn't make it up.5

Aaaah, of course......!14 -
As mentioned he was highly rated coming through at Leicester and never quite cut it. Went up to Scotland I'm assuming to play but didn't quite get that. He's apparently rapid so brings a nice change. He could turn out to be a good addition.
That said, he would have been a great compliment while keeping Novak letting Novak go and bringing in just Dodoo is not surprising but still baffling. I guess there is still time to get one more over the line but it doesn't look good.
I'm not a big fan of Novak and it's clear he wanted to move on but we are almost certainly weaker now than we were 24 hours ago. Especially with Hanlan and Umerah gone
Both desperately need first team league games but neither can be recalled until January.1 -
Spain style 4-6-0 coming up
Well it won't the Euros and a World Cup0 -
he'll need to get used to tighter marking - remember Mag said League 1 was a step up from the Scottish Premier.JamesSeed said:0 - Sponsored links:

So KR weren't messing..we do really need to be in contention before they sanction a grigg or Taylor sort of signing..if they did that now it would increase those chances surely? I hope Joe does well because he will become a scapegoat otherwise. Also any injuries to key players are always bad no matter where you are.
Would people have trusted Novak to fill Mags boots if he was injured?0 -
We've got massive strength in depth at CB, a lot of depth in midfield when Marshall returns, but no depth up front. Dodoo is fine to bring off the bench, or if we need to switch to 4-4-2, but can't play as a lone striker, so there's no cover for Magennis who's a key playerRC_CAFC said:Am I the only one who thinks it's been a great window? Hahahahahahahahah hahahahahahahahaha!!!!
(That's uncontrollable maniacal finally gone fruit loop laughter BTW)3 -
I think it's pretty much been a good window. Pretty much every position has good competition or cover. Lots if good additions and we've not lot anyone key. However once again they have left us desperately short in a key area. We have one senior striker who can lead the line in our formation. Other than that we have a kid on loan who is more suited to a 2 up front system or playing out wide. Behind that kids.RC_CAFC said:Am I the only one who thinks it's been a great window? It's how it played out today that is the issue. Shambolic doesn't even come close. Novak walked and we were left to pick up what was available at little cost. No matter what KR says or how the PR team spin it, today has shown once again the naivety of those doing our business. I'm sure VOTV will have plenty to fill their next issue.Swisdom said:2 weeks ago Novak was fat, lazy and useless. Definitely not good enough for us. Now he's gone it's like we've sold Neymar.

Not a great one but still a good one. Kept all of our best players and got rid of a lot of deadwood. I think going into preseason a lot of us would have had Novak under the expensive deadwood category. Clarke, Fosu, Reeves, Marshall, DaSilva, and Amos all quality, quality signings at this level. We kept Konsa, Holmes, Magennis, and Kashi. Dijksteel, RCC, and RHF all look good enough to be first team players this year. We've started the season very well.RC_CAFC said:Am I the only one who thinks it's been a great window? We've not lost any player that we were worried about losing.
