Omaha Beach Half Marathon tomorrow. Haven't practised for weeks and haven't lost weight either. 116kg. Not good.

No run today, first time watching the boy play for his football team, I get to be drenched standing in a park instead of running round one!!

Have a good run those out this morning.

you're obviously not familiar with the parkrun weather fairies who ensure that the rain always stops just before 9.00. oddly the one place they don't operate is Croydon

    Nice one @InspectorSands

    How did it go?

It pissed it down, but I did it in 35:22, watching for slippery bits. Only one person followed me as a pacer in the end (and she overtook me at the end so I think I did okay!)

How did we all get on this morning?

I’m over the moon, despite the strong wind and muddy bits I somehow carved out a 52sec PB. Not sure how that come about but I’ll take it!

Absolutely buzzing now, these Sat morning runs set me up with a good mood for the whole weekend. Love it.

You ran 5k in 52 seconds?

Fairly good one today, my unofficial time 42:08 but there were technical issues and about 1/3 of runners times weren't registered.

29.00 I'll take that as I hadn't run for a few weeks, it was a bit boggy and really busy at the start

Any Lifers do the Seafood Mince Pie 10 today?

I was there had to take it easy following a minor lay off with a pulled thoracic (area) muscle.

Finished in 1:21:33 on a truly brutal course. Some of those inclines make me feel uneasy even now. Many hours later.

Finished on an average of 8:21 per mile and in the top 25%.

Watch clocked in .23 short but if it were full distance then it was 8:09 per mile.
  • Can anyone please recommend a cheap watch that will time runs and record distance but won't break the bank?

On a tight budget so don't want to spend much but don't want something that will be useless.

Something that can be linked to an app like strava would be great but otherwise just need something to track time and distance whilst out running to help with pacing etc.

Can't recommend anything other that the Garmin Forerunner series. I had the 405, 620 but then swapped it for a Fenix 3 but wished I'd kept the 620. The 235 is the most popular model these days with built in optical HR monitor. I wouldnt want to run with knowing what my HR was.

Can't recommend anything as I haven't got one, but looks like plenty of choice on Argos (the go-to shop for the spend thrifty). I just carry my phone and use Run Keeper. not the most elegant of solutions, so I'd be interested in anything you find

The Garmin Forerunner FR35 is a fantastic entry level watch, also does cycling. Has Smart Notifications built in HR and a handy app to sync to.

It's currently £110 on the millets website.

It's the one I use and am very happy with so far.

The FR35 is the budget entry level that has a built-in hr monitor if you're not ready for over £200 of commitment yet!

I just use the Runkeeper app on my phone, does the job. Have it set to give 5 min updates on distance, pace etc

Just strap in on my own.

Do you not listen to music? Not sure I could run without it, I’d be analysing my breathing too much.

I carry my phone and use Strava to record what I'm up to (linked to a bluetooth heart rate monitor that I use for cycling...). Don't listen to music at all as I like to be aware of what's going on around me / am usually chatting to someone..

Didn't run on Saturday....just wasn't 'feeling it' and so gave myself the morning off... Regretted it all day...especially as it was beautiful weather first thing...

No I don't mate. Used to but spent so much time faffing about with the volume etc and some of the races don't let you wear headphones

I don't often listen to music but sometimes have a podcast on with my Aftershokz bone conduction headphones; means you can still hear everything around you

Mild evening and a stressy day inspired me to pound the pavements tonight for the first time in five weeks.

You can’t beat knocking one out after a break :-)

Enjoyed being out on the roads again, managed to up my distance to 11.5k at a steady pace, which is now my longest run.

It’s a good feelgood feeling knowing you can do a 10k but also run for over an hour without stopping.

Had a few Goachers 1066 last night. A lovely Old Ale and 6.7%. Not the best preparation but did 42.06 which is my 2nd best.
