Did Folkestone parkrun yesterday - nice simple course on the cliff-top. Weather was nicer in the morning than it was in the afternoon - clear and fresh with a breeze coming from the sea. Caught up with an old pal I hadn't seen for years, saw a couple of other familiar faces too.
I didn’t do parkrun this week due to illness but our grandson (11 in a couple of weeks) continued his improvement. His last 5 weeks times were 41:25, 37:13, 36:05, 32:48 and 31:18. It’s great to see him suddenly realise he can do something with real success. He will be even faster when he learns to tie his laces up properly !
I warned our grandson he should stay behind us today knowing I would let him loose near the finish. With no respect for his elders he ran off from the start finishing 55 places ahead in 29:52.
I can relate completely @Hex. My 13yr old finished a whopping 6 mins ahead of me today. I’m glad he’s enjoying it but I wish I was a little bit closer!
Love the complete spectrum of ages and ability at Parkrun, it’s what makes it so special (along with the volunteers).
10 miles for me this morning. 6 weeks out from a half marathon. Feeling pretty good running wise currently.
new trainers this week. Although my new gripe is the lack of longevity to running shoes. My last pair (that I rotate round regularly) lasted about & months before the cushioning was next to nothing. The rest of the shoe is fine and in great condition and they will be ok for walking/gardening. However for the price of running shoes they really should last longer than they do. It is such a waste.
as for parkrun I like them but they need to do parkrun lates ones a month so those who like a lay in don’t have to get up.
Clapham Common parkrun for me yesterday - probably the craziest parkrun I've ever done, finished 989th out of 1,044! It's a much younger crowd than your average parkrun...

I found the one I ran yesterday a bit odd. I battled round Hastings High School Parkrun (it's in Leicestershire a few miles out from Smocklington Hollow 🤣)
Less than 150 souls running it and it was one lap of cross country around their playing fields, followed by three more but with a paved circuit, winding it's way around the school buildings, added to it. Quirky, but not one I'll repeat as I'm not one for laps.

Yeah the last couple of times I’ve been it’s been around the 1,000 mark, I think when I first went there was only about 300. I think it’ll quieten down once Battersea get theirs (although there’s been some moodiness about that in some of the local press apparently) I did Hanworth yesterday, very quiet and rather windy is all…
I believe Ebbsfleet parkrun is due to start later this year.
Do you know which park that is please? That would be very handy for me.
I went to Northala Fields yesterday as it's by Ruislip for the train to Wycombe. So at least I got something out of yesterday's away trip.
Next week we'll try the new one near Crawley at Wakehurst. That's in or around a botanical garden I think.
Not yet. Sorry.
I think (was talking to someone about it during the week) it is going to be near/around the lake at the bottom of the ebbsfleet development. Parking and a decent independent coffee shop nearby. What 3 words would be: reject.loyal.edits at a rough guess.
Here's something for all of you with youngsters who enjoy running & want to try something different - this is taking place in Hyde Park on Saturday May 11th
Team GB are looking for new Nordic Skiers, particularly kids 11-15 years old who might be interested in getting on the Olympic Pathway for Team GB & Cross Country Skiing.
All equipment is provided & this really suits any youngster with some fitness, balance & curiosity to try a new sport. It leads to racing both on Roller Skis around London & GB, but especially the opportunity to go & race in Europe in the winter on snow.
There are also adult lessons at the same time - no exaggeration that Nordic Skiing is one of the toughest sports that rapidly develops phenomenal body strength & cardio fitness & in the winter gives you the skills to ski in Scotland, Scandinavia, North America & all the usual European places.
Am running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in memory of my dad on Sunday May 12th for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. He was a life long Addick and is the sole reason I am a Charlton fan because he brought me and my brothers along since we were old enough to stand.
My first ever marathon and I am getting quite nervous about it!
Here is the information for any lifers interested 👍
Apologies @AFKABartram and @InspectorSands for taking so long to reply, and good luck for the 2025 ballot @shine166 - been taking a bit of a
break the last week or so. Managed to drag myself around in 5hrs 39mins
6secs, around the length of a football match slower than I achieved
last time, in 2019, but a lot of water has passed under the bridge since
then. And between us, lead by the inspirational Sue Strachan, Sue's
Crew has raised over £70,000 to date on behalf of Alzheimer's Research

Was a gorgeous morning for it, 282 of us Avery Hill Park was the highest since Jan. Three midweek runs for a change helped me chip 45 secs off last week, so was pleased with that. My son hit another PB and finished 18th so he was well chuffed with that.
Haven't been posting much on this thread recently. Tbh it's been a bit depressing for me reading all about your efforts, exploits and pb's. You might remember I've posted about my running dropping off a cliff a while back?
I visited the doc's back in February about something unrelated and mentioned to the practice nurse about some other symptoms I'd been experiencing. Basically fatigue, shortness of breath, night sweats and my drop in running fitness.
Long story short, she stuck me on a ECG machine and it turned out I was in Atrial Fibrillation. More tests at the hospital followed and I also have a couple of dodgy valves, which may or may not be related to the AF, which was constant.
I ended up having a cardioversion earlier this week. For those that don't know they stuck me on a defibrillator and shocked my heart back into rhythm.
Time will tell if it holds and if the valves sort themselves out🤞🏻but I was able to go for a run this afternoon and, for the first time in a year, I actually felt a little like my old self. It was far from easy, but it has been like dragging a tyre behind me previously and at least someone's cut the rope! Got a lot of work ahead of me to drop the weight I've put on as well but at least now I know what it was and a route out of my malaise.
Moral of the story is, you know your body better than anyone and if you think something's wrong it probably is. Don't hang about until the next time you're down the doctors to mention it in passing!
So sorry to hear that @Bournemouth Addick must have been very worrying for you. Fingers crossed it’s been a great discovery and everything goes in the right direction going forward.
Be proud of your run today. Sounds like a big milestone to me

Cheers. I think getting a diagnosis in itself has been a weight off my mind rather than stressing about the treatment or possible outcomes. Got more tests and whatnot to come but until today I was starting to doubt if I'd ever feel properly normal again. At the very least I've stopped blowing out my backside just walking up to the paper shop...
Glad to hear things are going in the right direction for you now @Bournemouth Addick. Out of interest, do you use a watch with a heart rate monitor and, if so, was there anything in the readings when you dipped in form to indicate a problem?

I'm a bit of a ludite with running tech tbh so no I don't wear a Apple watch or similar. I guess it might have picked it up, not really sure tbh.
What does pick it up was a cheap as chips digital blood pressure monitor, that lit up with the irregular heartbeat indicator.
