1-1 Durham keeper wipes out our player and after lengthy spell of treatment awards penalty

    Scorer Bradley
1-1. Penalty after the Durham keeper went to punch the ball and hit Hutton harder than anything AJ threw last night.
I saw the highlights of this game whilst watching the Stevenage game yesterday.

It looked to me as though the keeper punched the ball cleanly and then there was a collision. Looked a terrible penalty decision, but would like to see it again.

Edit. Here it is , 1 min 25 in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ_UhjV1qLo

That's never a penalty.  Keeper gets there first and cleanly punches the ball away before the three players collide.
Ah well, makes up for the diving save the Blackpool player made in the men's game 24 hours beforehand!
  • Full time 2-0 win. 4 wins from 4.

Moves us temporarily 3 points clear with London City playing at 2pm, who can close the gap to 2 points with a win.
  • Durham beating Birmingham 1-0 today puts us 5 clear of them already, when a season is only 20 games long that's huge, and I have no doubt they, alongside LCL are the biggest threat to our pursuit of promotion
  • Just win the next 16 and we're promoted.

See that Palace had 5,000 at Selhurst for their WSL game v Chelsea yesterday.

    They did lose 0 - 7
  • They've got the winning habit.

Great result today, made even better by Durham's win, and now they have a great opportunity on Wednesday in the League Cup against WSL opposition in Tottenham.
  • Was hoping to get to this one, but the early kickoff made it unrealistic. Great result. Let's go!
  • London city lose to Sunderland. 3 points clear at top, 5 ahead of London city.
  • London lost so we are three points clear but newcastle, five points behind, have a game in hand.
  • Newcastle starting to look like they'll be in the mix at the top. A couple of crucial away games coming up against them and Lionesses.

Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland, women's football in the North East seems to be fairly strong.

  • They all play eachother in the next couple of matches too, we could really do with a couple of draws in those matches so they all nick points off eachother

At this early stage we seem to be breaking away from quite a few clubs. We won't  be able to do that to all clubs yet but it is promising. Our rivals this season seem to be Durham, London City, Southampton and Birmingham. There is already a sizeable gap to the others. And I would make us favourites.
  • Are the same parking restrictions around the valley for the men’s first team games implemented for the women’s games? thinking of going to the spurs game Wednesday with my spurs supporting other half.

after 18;30, most parking restrictions end in streets around the ground. Considering there were <500 at a league game on a sunday, I doubt you will have an issue parking nearby the ground.

I parked for Durham down by the station and walked up, there were plenty of spaces. Possibly going to the Spurs game and will park same place.

On Sundays there are no restrictions at all - not even residents' parking. I usually park in Floyd Road and don't have to get there particularly early. On a weekday you'll need to check that the space you're parking in doesn't have residents' parking rules still in force at the time you arrive. There won't be any police barriers and all roads will be open.
  • Great start. Conceded 1 goal in 4 games and looking a bit more dangerous in front of goal than last season. It's such a small league though that it's very hard to leave anyone in the dust unless you're perfect. There's not really any easy games in the league now with the exception of Pompey, Sheff Utd and Bristol City will likely wake up before long so we need to be relentless over the next two months. If we can get to December still unbeaten with mostly wins we'll be in good shape.

Pity the commentator got both the name of the crosser for our first goal (it was Charlotte Newsham, not Jodie Hutton) and Karin Muya's first name wrong.

Commend the club for trying something, but I don't think price is the issue.  We've discussed ad nauseum the playing of matches the day after the men's games and that can only be resolved by discussions with the League for next season.

In the meantime the club need to promote the women's team through promotional activity, girls schools and clubs.  Not sure if and how involved CAST is in promoting the women's team.

It's a shame that Charlton Live has moved coverage to Sunday mornings*, whereas before with the Sunday 7 pm show, you got a slot with the match just finished.

Personally I'd rather matches were at Crayford where you would get a better match day experience but realise pitch funding required the women's team to play at the Valley.

Now, when the Women's team are doing so well is the time to promote the life out of the team both through internal media but also external media. The more exposure they get now the better attendances will grow.

*Not suggesting @CharltonLive change their time, @LouisMend and team give up a lot of time for us and are fully appreciate them.

Playing at The Oakwood was no longer an option. It does not meet the new requirements to play in the Women's Championship.

The options were to either play at The Valley or find a suitable ground with a grass pitch and good spectator facilities. At the time Bromley was not an option so The Valley was chosen and the grant to upgrade the pitch was won.

And Bromley still isn't an option as that's where LCL are based.

The Crayford comment was more of a throw away line and was not calling for a return. The real point was that offering half price of already reasonably priced tickets to season ticket holders is not going to increase crowds.

Charlton looked at using the grant to upgrade the Bromley pitch before LCL took advantage of Bromley being promoted.
  • Not going to make it tonight, is it streamed anywhere?
