  • can maybe sneak a win tonight, shrewsbury arent going to get autos and will now look to concentrate on playoffs.

Pompey will be well up for Saturday a big crowd behind them aswell as a big turn out from us ends usually in a draw at best

blackburn are going to want to push on and win the league and will likely be too much for us

rochdale could well need points to stay up and by that time we will have zilch to play for.

total 5 points i'm going for, of course hope to be wrong.

Wimbledon and rovers away we really needed 6 points and a draw out of scunnie.

another fecking season in league 1 beckons highlight will be sunderland away as can likely team it up with a weekend to Newcastle.

I would have taken a draw over both Wimbledon & Rovers and a win over Scunny. Less points gained but gained points were it mattered most. The defeat on Saturday was even more galling as it meant they went above us.
  • Opponents in the top ten of the league highlighted in bold:

    Charlton: Portsmouth (A), Blackburn (H), Rochdale (A) (2/3)

    Scunthorpe: Walsall (H), MK Dons (A), Plymouth (H), Bradford (H) (2/4)

    Plymouth: Northampton (A), Rochdale (A), Rotherham (H), Scunthorpe (A), Gillingham (A) (2/5)

    Portsmouth: Charlton (H), Bury (A), Peterborough (H) (2/3)

    Peterborough: Blackburn (A), Shrewsbury (A), Fleetwood (H), Portsmouth (A) (3/4)

    Bradford: Rochdale (A), MK Dons (H), Southend (H), Walsall (H), Scunthorpe (A) (1/5)
  • Plymouth have 4 away games, which may work in our favour

  • Pompey game absolutely huge now - a win puts us five points ahead of them with two to play, making us almost uncatchable by one of our rivals.
  • Its a shame that Scunthorpe v Plymouth is after our game against Blackburn

One of them could write themselves out of the Play-Off race and do us a favour if we're still where we are though.

Be interested as well to see how Scunthorpe do for the rest of the season - Yes they beat us but that was their first win in some time, was it a one off game they managed to get themselves up for, or have they recovered from the slump in form... Hopefully it is just the former as Walsall wont be a given, they can be really irritating when they want to be!!

  • If we manage a win at Pompey ...... we would be 5 points ahead of them, with a much better GD, with 2 games for each of us remaining.

We need the win. A point won't be enough.

Scunthorpe with the best run in imo
  • I tell you what - looking at those remaining fixtures Bradford aren't out of this after todays result either.

Do not think Pompey are the problem. Plymouth and Scunny are the concern.

Well they have to play each other so that guarantees that they both won't get maximum points. Our preference for that match should be Plymouth because they have more games left to play than Scunthorpe.

If Scunthorpe were to lose to Plymouth that leaves Scunthorpe a point behind us with the same amount of available games. If it were to go the other way and Scunthorpe win, Plymouth would be a point behind us but have a game advantage. A draw doesn't do us any favours.

We only need one of those two available spots, so seven points from three games (and hypothetically if Plymouth beat Scunthorpe) means Scunthorpe need three wins from three games to go above us. The reverse result in the Scunny/Pilgrims match would mean the Green Army need three wins but from four matches (or two wins, two draws).

  • I tell you what - looking at those remaining fixtures Bradford aren't out of this after todays result either.

They're going to need three games just to get in front of Plymouth...

Be great if they managed 6th with us getting 5th for that reason but think they've left it too late
  • Yeah not easy but they have 4 very winnable games before they play Scunny last day - they can't afford to drop any points though. There is always that one team that makes a late charge from nowhere as well.
  • I tell you what - looking at those remaining fixtures Bradford aren't out of this after todays result either.

Mathmatically no, but realistically Bradford have got to win every single remaining game - including tonight's win, they would need to win 6 games on the trot. Even a draw could kill them stone dead.

    And they've a minus 10 GD.

  • Have to beat Pompey or it is all over IMO. A draw v Blackburn and win v Rochdale might then squeek us in.
  • Yeah that's what I said above they can't afford to drop a point - they do play 3 of the bottom 6 and Southend who are not in the best of form themselves - whilst the teams above are playing one another taking points off each other it might be worth keeping an eye if Bradford come up the rails - again as I said above there is always that one team that comes from nowhere.

Or they might instantly lose Saturday and I wrote all that for nothing!
  • I think what we need is a win against Pompey and for Plymouth to beat Scunthorpe, then its in our hands for 6th place.

It's weird how we've gone from having games in hand to playing 1 or 2 more matches than most of our rivals

That's because we've played both our rearranged games in the past week.
And other teams have yet to play their's.

    Next question, please?

I said to Golfie Jnr earlier....."still a long way to go"

then I remembered we only had 3 games left.

Old cliché, but take it one game at a time. No point getting ahead of ourselves. 5pm last Saturday I thought we were dead & buried. Might be the same 5pm this Saturday. Lets see what's what then.

But Saturday is really a cup final. have to win.

Currently we are in the lead with 43%
  • Win our final three games and we'll almost certainly be in the playoffs. That should be ours, and the players, only focus.
  • We need to assume we require between 7 and 9 points and let the other games look after themselves.

Lots of twists and turns to come yet in the final weeks.
  • 7 points minimum required for us i think.

    Ideally this weekend will see:

Us win at Pompey (putting them out of it)
Plymouth lose (making it tough for them)
Blackburn beat Peterborough (peterborough then out of it)
Shrewsbury lose (meaning Blackburn almost certainly promoted before they come to the Valley)

Not too much to ask is it?

Seems to think 6 points will be enough and have us 1 point clear of scunny
  • Scunthorpe for some reason don't worry me as much as maybe they should reason being is take last saturday out the equation they hadn't won in 11.

Walsall fighting for their lives and will be tough and I can see then get something
