  • I suppose one question that comes up is...why did Stokes go to a gay club?
  • I suppose one question that comes up is...why did Stokes go to a gay club?

Literally don't think that has come up at all though, has it? Until you shoehorned it into the conversation that is.
  • I suppose one question that comes up is...why did Stokes go to a gay club?

    It's not a gay club.

What annoys me the most is the fact they went out on the lash on a weekday night in the middle on an ODI series, terrible professionalism from Stokes & Hales.

Yes there's that. Incredibly poor show.

But there's also the homophobic abuse and beating people up.

On reflection, breaking the ECB's curfew pales compared to breaking the law. In my opinion.
The ECB have a curfew for a reason. You can't get charged with affray if you're in your hotel room at 11pm.

You also don't get charged for affray if you don't go knocking people out in the street.

I don't have an issue with them going out, just ideal if you don't go around lamping people while doing it...
  • Love the way the bouncer refers to him as “the ginger one”
    That’s gingerism right there !

    Well... you can. Obviously.
  • Got tickets for days 1 and 4. guess which days have the rain forecast.

has anyone got tickets for WC 2019 yet?

Have applied in Ballot for Final at Lords and Eng v SA at Oval, and already have Eng v Aus.
  • Can someone tell me why Stokes wasn't allowed on the ashes tour, yet has been allowed to play for England in all forms this summer?

He is either "not avaliable for selection" until the trial or is.

Australia, will not play against anyone on trial or anyone convicted of a crime

  • This bit made me laugh, very polite response from the bouncer!

"He got a bit verbally abusive towards myself. He mentioned my gold teeth and he said I looked like a c**t and I replied, 'Thank you very much'.
  • The prosecution are ripping the social media version of events to shreds. I reckon Stokes is in trouble
  • Jess Thomas, a student, gave a statement saying she looked out from her home on Queens Road and hear a voice saying repeatedly “that’s enough”.

She climbed on to a radiator to see what was going on and saw five to six men piling about on top of each other, shouting.

She said she could not tell who was on who’s side. After a while, feeling frightened, she left her window and returned to bed.

Is she one of the Borrowers? Who has to stand on a radiator to see out of their bedroom window?

It could have been the Charlton Life beano

  • So Pope is batting at 4 then for the first time in his career.

Woakes and Ali vying for the other spot

Being familiar with the interior of the flats in question, to see what's happening literally directly below you, you have to try and get as high a vantage point as possible. Given Stokes et al were having a barney right below them, it makes a bit of sense.
  • I suppose one question that comes up is...why did Stokes go to a gay club?

    1) It's not a gay club. (They're actually down the bottom of Park Street, near the Banksy, down the stairs just before College Green - 10 mins or so from Mbargos. OMG did £1 Jagerbombs on a Wednesday and was always an excellent night out.)

    2) Who gives a shit if he's gay or not? He can go to a gay club if he likes.

not sure if woakes has enough bowling behind him to go into a 5 day test .be good to see how Curran goes again ..some talk about Ian Bell wanting his place back again

God why won't this talk about Ian Bell go away. You can tell the people who follow county cricket and those who don't. The last 2 years in division 1 he scored barely any runs in all formats including no centuries at an average of barely 20. His lack of runs (and Trotts) was a big reason why they went down. He's dropped down to division 2 and has managed to score a few runs against lesser bowling attacks (2 centuries at a reasonable average). That's given him a bit of confidence to get a few decent scores at an average strike rate in the slogfest.

No way does his form warrant a test recall. Really really frustrates me. He was a great player for us over many years but his time has gone.
  • love this thread.......currently going from reading if Pope should be batting at 4 to is Stokes gay to is it Woakes or Ali filling the last spot onto where a certain niteclub is in relation to somebody's window......

    keep it up !!!

I find your ageist attitudes deeply disturbing.

We had it with Ramps but in a different way. He kept scoring in the CC and heavily so but people couldn't understand that he simply didn't have what it took to achieve at the highest level and kept calling for his recall up to 2009.
Bell was a fine player but his time has long passed.

We've got Eng v Aus & Eng v WI so far.
  • I've got Eng vs SA and SL vs Aus, both at the Oval. I've not done a second application yet

I agree to a certain extent. But with ramps there was at least the argument of sheer weight of runs, consistently, in division 1 over a period of years. Plus there was the argument that him coming into the side as an experienced pro who had captained Surrey and knew his game inside out and would be coming into a more settled side than the one of the 90s, he would be more able to transfer his county form to the international stage.

Bell has none of that. No weight of runs (other than the last couple of months) the opposite of consistent and in the second division. His captaincy flopped and he failed to score the runs to keep his side up (when they had begun the season talking about winning the championship).

Bell only really had success for England at 5 or 6 which is where we have a whole host of options. He's not the answer to our opener or 3 problems so ignore him.
  • Don't know where you've seen calls for Bell to be recalled.
  • I'm at Lords today with a few mates. Weather looks crap, Golfie must have a ticket too!

You'll be able to concentrate on Charlton Life instead, as all our transfers are unveiled
