I’ll only bring in people if it is going to make us better. I will only recommend someone to the owner that is going to make us better."
“We’re picky, because the type of players we want there aren’t many out there. Like I’ve said before if I can’t get the exact type of player that I want I won’t bring on someone just for the sake of bringing them in. What’s the point in me wasting the money?”
Quotes stolen straight from Gobshite's pocket. Same old shit different season.
He's talking complete sense Nicholas.
He's talking rubbish like those before him. We all know he himself will want 3/4 in but he's been told players have to be sold first. We can't afford to be picky when you look at the squad. I am unsure on players like Ward and Dawkins but we need them to build even something resembling a competitve squad.

why then haven't you signed Ward, Ince or Dawkins. By your own admission you are only bringing in certain players so what is going on ?/ Not fair on them if you are only "having a look" - but then that is not what you are doing....or are you ??
Talks less than KR but still the same bollox.
I'm hoping he's seen enough from Ince, Ward and Dawkins to sign at least a couple of them. But he may not plan to start them v. Sunderland, so rested them today?
It doesn’t sound like he is planning to play anyone against Sunderland.
I have not ever looked forward less to the start of a new season than this one. I really couldn’t give a toss whether it starts or not. Just fuck off Roland you senile old bastard.

He's talking complete bollocks. So we just keep selling players but only replace them with better players than we have. At this rate we will have the bare number to start the season.
You need a squad of decent players, not injury prone and who want to play for the club in an ideal world.
Sadly we are far from an ideal world at Charlton, we have a cunt of an owner, no senior management, a very inexperianced temporary team manager and a bunch of Aussies that have just wasted a wonderful opportunity to get the fans onside.
Like the wankers before him Bowyer will say what he is told to say.
I truely want him to do well but he has both hands tied behind his back, pity he just doesn't have the balls to say it how it is...........SHIT.
No doubt Bowyer is in a tough position. But I got the impression he was his own man and also the fact he wasn't particularly interested in going into management. I know that seems to have changed and getting the job at Charlton was very fortunate and I don't doubt for one minute he cares. But he is becoming another mouthpiece for Roland and there's no way he can be happy to sell decent players to bring in freebies, or that he's going to have to use youngsters to fill the squad.
I am all for giving young players a chance but that should be when they have impressed for the U23s and earnt it. Aribo, Phillips and Grant have all earnt a shot, but players like Morgan and Maloney are being played because we have no other options, not because they are ready to step up. On the law of averages 1/2 of the youngsters will probably play better than expected, but if we are relying on them to step up and play like seasoned pros we are in huge trouble. Bowyer spouting off there's not enough players out there to improve us is complete rubbish
Maybe, but the general argument that you don’t buy crap players to make up the numbers Is what I’m agreeing with. Bowyer is a straight talker, and keeps things simple. But ‘.....there's not enough players out there that want to join us’ is what he meant to say. Somehow he seems to have got the team playing quite well from what I’ve seen, and today sounded ok too.
Mind you, it was a heavy defeat st Sunderland that did for Jimmy Seed.
It wasn’t long ago Bowyer wasn’t even sure he wanted the job. I thought he might get pissed off with Roland buggering him about and tell the mad old sod where to stick his job. Like the rest of us I suspect he’s hanging around hoping better times are just around the corner.

Are there that many players out there?
They need to be available on a free, interested in signing for a club with a caretaker manager and an owner trying to sell (uncertainty in even the short term) and add something we don’t have, i.e. not past it/injury prone/lacking experience/lightweight.
It won’t go to Roland, it’s just £200k that he doesn’t need to put in to pay the bills.
I wonder who’s pushed for this. Does Bowyer not rate him? Is he on a big wage for a player that won’t be first choice? Or is it that Magennis wanted to move with the chance to play at a higher level? Bowyer always talked like it was just a case of when he was sold rather than if.
I’m sorry to see Josh go. A solid professional and a decent bloke. But it’s just another tale of woe in the RD chapter in our history. I’m so numb to it now. From Yann to this, it’s been a total disaster and the polar opposite of how our club used to be run. Or how any successful football club should be run for that matter. Sell up and go Roland.

Perhaps I exaggerated the numbers but yes there are players out there. And the players currently available on frees aren’t likely to be majorly expensive or picky.
It’s got to the stage now where we just need the numbers to stay in the division.

No one has pushed for it. Roland is cashing in as usual and Bowyer has talked of when rather than if because he knows Duchatelet will sell anyone to the first bidder. There's been interest in Magennis since January at least.
The 2 players we have brought in are both going to improve our team. The players we have let go so far other than the keeper are not going to weaken our team - of course, the last few years have made us expect the worst but at this stage, 2 or 3 good signings and a bit more dead wood shifted and we will be looking strong.

But as the last 4 years under RD have shown it’s about the squad, not the team. The squad is weaker with some of those players leaving without being replaced.
We now need Phillips and Grant to make the step up, and probably others such as Lapslie as well.
