No doubt Bowyer is in a tough position. But I got the impression he was his own man and also the fact he wasn't particularly interested in going into management. I know that seems to have changed and getting the job at Charlton was very fortunate and I don't doubt for one minute he cares. But he is becoming another mouthpiece for Roland and there's no way he can be happy to sell decent players to bring in freebies, or that he's going to have to use youngsters to fill the squad.

I am all for giving young players a chance but that should be when they have impressed for the U23s and earnt it. Aribo, Phillips and Grant have all earnt a shot, but players like Morgan and Maloney are being played because we have no other options, not because they are ready to step up. On the law of averages 1/2 of the youngsters will probably play better than expected, but if we are relying on them to step up and play like seasoned pros we are in huge trouble. Bowyer spouting off there's not enough players out there to improve us is complete rubbish

Are there that many players out there?

They need to be available on a free, interested in signing for a club with a caretaker manager and an owner trying to sell (uncertainty in even the short term) and add something we don’t have, i.e. not past it/injury prone/lacking experience/lightweight.

Cash upfront all for Roland, we won't see any of it. The Football League standby and watch the asset stripping.

It won’t go to Roland, it’s just £200k that he doesn’t need to put in to pay the bills.

I wonder who’s pushed for this. Does Bowyer not rate him? Is he on a big wage for a player that won’t be first choice? Or is it that Magennis wanted to move with the chance to play at a higher level? Bowyer always talked like it was just a case of when he was sold rather than if.

Roland a c@nt and if the Aussies take over they've got some explaining to do.

I’m sorry to see Josh go. A solid professional and a decent bloke.
But it’s just another tale of woe in the RD chapter in our history. I’m so numb to it now. From Yann to this, it’s been a total disaster and the polar opposite of how our club used to be run.
Or how any successful football club should be run for that matter.
    Sell up and go Roland.

Perhaps I exaggerated the numbers but yes there are players out there. And the players currently available on frees aren’t likely to be majorly expensive or picky.

It’s got to the stage now where we just need the numbers to stay in the division.

How some on here would rather Josh go for 3 quid than have him as a squad player.

No one has pushed for it. Roland is cashing in as usual and Bowyer has talked of when rather than if because he knows Duchatelet will sell anyone to the first bidder. There's been interest in Magennis since January at least.

Saw somewhere we rejected £500k in January - why didn’t he sell him then?

200k for Magennis is a piss take .

Charlton would not see the money, so I think the fee is incidental.

Possibly persuaded not to by KR who convinced him we still had a chance of promotion and therefore a bigger pay day for RD on sale of club.

The 2 players we have brought in are both going to improve our team. The players we have let go so far other than the keeper are not going to weaken our team - of course, the last few years have made us expect the worst but at this stage, 2 or 3 good signings and a bit more dead wood shifted and we will be looking strong.

Is there any more “dead wood” to shift?

But as the last 4 years under RD have shown it’s about the squad, not the team. The squad is weaker with some of those players leaving without being replaced.

We now need Phillips and Grant to make the step up, and probably others such as Lapslie as well.
  • if I had to take a wild guess at naming a player that another team would come in for but hasn’t been (at least I don’t think so) thought of so far if I’d suggest its Chris Solly. He looked like he’s rolled the clock back yesterday and his play was rock solid. At least one manager in our division will know all about him, as will most of the others. If they thought they could get him with a cheeky bid because of the issues at charlton and his age then I bet another manager will have tried it on

Great to see that Bolton have splashed the fact that they got Magennis for a knock down fee. Opens the door wide for a few speculative bids for the likes of Bauer and Aribo who are the most saleable assets. Wouldn’t be completely shocked if both are gone quite soon.

Or Roland's Standard Liege model. Something the Football League should have been aware of but chose to ignore.

    He won't leave.

Solly is due a testimonial and you have the age old problem of his knee.

The worse possible scenario is coming to fruition; Roland Duchatelet still owns Cafc and vengeance appears to be his overall motive.

Hell hath no fury like a half billionaire scroned.

The best signing the club could make is a decent medical team. Fosu ended last season with the hamstring problem and he's still not fit , the last two or three seasons we seem to have so many long term injuries. It can't all be down to bad luck
