Stuart Taylor is available . Would provide Phillips with some experience and good cover

Blimey he's nearly 38 now and hasn't made a first team appearance for three years and only 95 in his career! Nice work if you can get it

I think all of our discussion over goalkeeper has distracted us from the fact that our squad is desperately lacking. Or maybe it has just distracted me.

Assuming all goes according to plan (it won't), we will have Igor, Clarke, Reeves, and Fosu back by October 1. I know Bowyer says mid-September but lets be realistic. Clarke won't have played for about a year at that point. He and Reeves won't have had pre-seasons. Fosu and Igor will have had about half off a pre-season. I don't know what Dijksteel timeline is.

By October 1 we'll have played 10 games, or 22% of the season (that's rough maths, but somewhere in there).

Between now and then, ASSUMING EVERYONE STAYS FIT (and they won't), the strongest 11 we can field is:
    ...........Phillips
    Solly Bauer Pearce Page
    Aribo Pratley JFC Marshall
    .....Taylor Ajose

Subs: AMB, Sarr, Mascoll, Maloney, Lapslie, Grant, Reeco

Look at that bench. That's 5/7 first teamers in the U23s last season. We have one natural wide player. We have no experienced right or left back cover. I know people have said Marshall will provide cover at right back but he bloody won't because he's our only wide player. No right sided center back cover.

    I mean...it's really bad.

I think a good run-in last year (with a much deeper squad) and a couple decent pre-season results have fed this narrative that Bowyer is some sort of wizard, but this is his first season as a manager and only his second in senior coaching.

Again it might just be me who hasn't fully appreciated the state we're right now. And I know we've been in a bad state for 4 1/2 years, but this is the worst it's been going in to a season.

Such a weird career, he’s been a professional for 20 odd years, the vast majority of that time in the Premier League and “played” at four or five big clubs but he’s never been a first choice.

Would love to know how much he’s earned in that time, if he’s been on an average of £20K a week during that time he’ll have earned over £20M!

If Mag is off, could we make a cheeky bid for Omar Bogle who barely featured for Cardiff in the division below. Any others in the frame? Nadir Ciftci?

Since when were Cardiff a League 2 club.
    1996?

Genuinely don't know why Prem clubs sign Taylor. The clubs that want 3 keepers tend to need an Englishman because of the rules around minimum home grown players but they would shit themselves if he had to start a prem game. Can't see him being better than a decent youngster over last few years and probably a lot more expensive.

Can't really blame Taylor for it, he stretched his career while earning good money rather than dropping down to actually play a few games. Not what I would want to it but if he werent him he would be someone else. Cant imagine he will ever play again, I think the minute no club makes him a decent offer he will call it a day.

Agree with SDAddick and many others who clearly see the squad limitations, and it's frustrating to say the least. Also it's strongly hinted by Bowyer that another player will leave this week. It would be good to hear something positive coming from somewhere - either from the Aussies or from the Club. At this rate we will need to recruit the full number of loanees before that window closes end of August - and hope their wages are heavily subsidised by their parent Clubs. This must be one of the worst squad preparations in recent memory. We are using sticking plasters to cover the gigantic wounds caused by the Belgian.

Lee Bowyer said there could be one more exit before the start of the season - and that is Nicky Ajose. #cafc More here https://www.londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-athletic-striker-nicky-ajose-has-interest-from-foreign-clubs/

We’re 12/1 to win the League, 7/2 for promotion.
Favourites are Sunderland who are 11/4 and 5/6 respectively.

We’re 18/1 for relegation and 66/1 to finish bottom. [Odds from Paddy Power]

You’ll see those last odds decrease drastically today as the Aussies fill their boots, thus acquiring all the funding required for a new 6 year planned assault on the prem.

    Taylor injured
    Vetokele injured

    Magennis leaving
    Ajose potentially leaving

That leaves KAG and RHF as our only two fit strikers.

    Brilliant.

Wonder which foreign clubs would be interested... Cyprus seems a popular choice for players at this level

If so hopefully the takeover can be completed prior to January so we can get him tied down to a new Contract

Being a foreign player I could see there being a bigger chance of him and his agent talking to other clubs outside of England when he's only got six months left of his Contract, could make it a lot harder to keep him then

Bauer staying is big news. Not bothered about Ajose going HOWEVER that leaves us incredibly light up top. Vetokele is out for 4-6 weeks and Taylor may not be fit for start of the season.

Add to that Ajose leaving, a good start to the week!
  • LB quoted as saying:

“Bolton tried to take him as well after Josh. They made a deal with Josh and tried to do it with Pat as well.

“But on Saturday I had an email from the owner saying that Pat is staying. He said that Pat is a massive part of our defence and we need to keep him because he improves our chances of promotion."

Has RD been taking some medication?

Oh dear the owner has said he is an important part of our defence and for our promotion push! Sounds like the Rat might be staying for a while longer yet :disappointed:

Not that he would have had a say in Magennis leaving but I don't think Bowyer rated him.

Good news that he is staying but is that more to do with the fee they want for him and the other clubs are not willing to pay it?

Don't get too excited about him being offered a new contract. They did the same with Fosu and Aribo weeks ago and they have showed no interest in signing a new deal especially when they all have 12 months left to run.

The Aussies might be better lumping on that 66/1 if the takeover carries on any longer.
