Took me 30 minutes to get into bloody iFollow, but that was worth it.
Like the last game I saw in the flesh,(Barnsley) that was a performance that had Lee Bowyer written all over it, and right at the heart of that performance was George Lapslie. Take a bow, kid.
And jeez that is still an island full of inbred numpties, as it was when i was there at Poly. And that's just the commentators.
Watched on Ifollow. Did well. Pearce immense. Steer a bit rocky at the end and rode our luck a little second half but deserved the win. It was 10 v 10 at end as Marshall was limping. Lapslie was great love his energy
What a result. Everyone played well. Bielik was immense and hope he's ok. A bit hairy at the back after he went off. And what a battling performance from Lapslie.
Only downside was the injuries to Grant, Bielik and Marshall. Hopefully Grant and Bielik going off was precautionary.
We deserved the 3 points. Up to 5th so not too shabby.
Crazy as it sounds, I fancied us tonight. We're built to beat these kinds of teams - we're fast on the break and we have commitment once we're ahead. No one could have predicted it being quite such a war though.
Sounded like a proper dig in effort. Walking wounded all over the pitch. Bodies on the line. Heads in where it hurts. Shots off the line. And a Charlton boy in the middle of the pitch covering every blade of grass. A performance in the manager's image - Bowyer will have loved it, as should all Addicks.
An away day for the ages, the Floodlit Fight of Fratton. Wish I'd been there.
Bowyer had a dream To build a football team But he had no money so he had to get 'em on loan With Pearce at the back Taylor in attack We're Charlton Athletic, we're on our way back.
have had to work tonight, so was unable to follow the match thread, first chance I have had to check the result is the post match views...quality! will now look back through the match thread for the highlights (goooaaall moments)!
Well that was a coming of age from George Lapslie!!
I've been impressed with him this season, thought he was excellent against Sunderland and then slowly his level dropped slightly, in recent weeks we've seen it back a bit with him for me being one of the better performers against Blackpool on the weekend, still regardless I felt (as SDAddick said) that his positioning was his achilles heel and that he needed to be more disciplined in that respect; Bowyer of course said the same after Burton Albion and thought that Portsmouth tonight would be a step too far for him at the moment and that he would be left on the bench
Instead the young lad put in a bloody Man of the Match display for me and was everywhere on the pitch, his positioning still isnt great but you almost just want to give him a free role within the team to just go wherever he wants as thats what he did today - If he wasnt stopping shots on the line he was getting a ball in the face, and as for the build up to the second goal it was just a delight to see him never giving up.
Yes he's no where near the finished article and will no doubt make mistakes throughout this season but at the moment I just love watching his commitment for us!!
As for the rest I thought it was a very welcome return to form for Bielik and hope his substitution (concussion perhaps?) wont rule him out of Saturday as some of his touches were exquiset whilst I was equally impressed with Ben Reeves at the top of the diamond - Overall though there wasnt one player who didnt put in a shift at some stage of the game - Yes I commented that Naby Sarr and Joe Aribo needed to sort themselves out after the first half but thought their calmness in the second was very impressive
Special mention too for the Portsmouth Commentators, a crazy bunch who thought every tackle the box was a penalty, couldnt understand the red card thinking it was a carbon copy of a Jason Pearce tackle moments before (Yes but Jason got the ball) and to top it off moaned about a blatant handball was harsh on one player because George Lapslie potentially did the same when he blocked with his head!! - Bless 'em!!
Great result, wish people would stop over reacting to a bad result like Saturday. 5 wins from 6 in the league despite all the injuries and changing of the side.
Watched on iFollow .... Best half of football that I’ve seen from a Charlton team in a long time. Portsmouth were dead and buried in the first half. We just didn’t let them have any time or space. They came at us in waves in the second half but we stood firm. Outstanding performances from Beliek and Lapo. The back four weren’t bad either. Picked up a couple of injuries. Just hope they’re fit for the weekend. Up the Addicks ....
What I find so frustrating is, the games I've seen all the way through this season, I really enjoyed, even Sunderland where we lost. They reminded me why I still love Charlton, why I still love football. And they were the games which had the stamp of Lee Bowyer the player on them. Even the commentators tonight said that about our performance.
If only we had an ownership and an infrastructure to back him, Bowyer would get us out of this bloody hell hole and onwards and upwards. I'm convinced he's got what it takes, even though he is less than a year into the job. But we are stuck with that idiot. It's a tragedy. We have to keep up the pressure on him to sell.
You don’t have to be incredible to win this league. Just consistent and have a bit of luck.
I think if every team plays at their absolute peak we’re a top 3 or 4 side in this division. Our problem hasn’t been competing with the ‘big boys’ but rather dropping points against some absolutely bang average sides
Still think it’s playoffs, but I’m sure we’re in a much better place for them this year.

George Lapslie had a storming match.
Never hides, always involved.
Terrific attitude, workrate, commitment
Well done, George!

What a performance from the kid and an amazing clearance off the line from him. He could be a star if he carries on like that.
Lock him up before Douchbag packs him off to Brentford or someone similar in January.
Its almost a case of the three that go up are the ones that can find any kind of consistency

(That's post-win euphoria for you).
