  • We just beat India at Edgbaston with one spinner. India then dropped their second spinner for the following match at Edgbaston against Bangladesh.

Think we will be ok with just the single spinner unless they’re preparing a new spin friendly track.
  • Root is capable of bowling 3-4 overs so we only need 1 spinner IMO, especially seeing as neither have been bowling particularly well.

Pitch might suit the spinners but we are also playing a team who play spin well. Play to our strengths which is our seamers, they are the ones who have got us through.
  • It's a shame that due to how the games were scheduled that we were never able to give Curran a game, as his variety may have been useful on the surfaces at this world cup
  • Sounds like some shenanigans in the Afghan camp this WC...

I wonder if Gulbadin is implicated?

Vince should be nowhere near the team now.

We’ve won the last two games. Let’s stick with this side until the end now, whichever way it goes.
    Agreed, it's what I think.
No idea, why anyone would want to change it.

I dont think they will look to change from the current team, however they *might* have some concern over Rashids bowling being innocuous and below par all tourno.Although his WC figures are 74 overs for 433 ,with 8 wickets so, 5.85 an over which is not too bad overall.

As mentioned, spinners have been generally inneffective all tournament, and *maybe* they might look to play with the 5 'quicks' they already have in the team (Woakes,Stokes,Archer,Wood and Plunkett) plus Root as 6th bowler.

This would have been more palatable if they had a batter good enough to come in and bolster the batting, but i dont think Vince will get near the side again this tourno unless essential.

What we need is Buttler to come to the party, because him being out early tends to put a little bit more pressure on the likes of Woakes at 7 , which makes it look like we have a longer tail - especially if you start comparing with the Oz no. 7, Carey.

  • Bloody hell. That Imam cover drive just now was so good, I felt a little bit of wee come out. Whew.

Other than not being quite as good as any of the other seamers, what "variety" does he provide?

Left arm. Then again there's David Willey for that (though Willey doesn't do anything with the ball after about five overs).

Its the other (right handed) Curran.
  • Hearing that if we get to the final Sky will show the game to air nationally.

  • Pakistan have decided to try and win the game and depart in a huff rather than go for the impossible. That said they're making short work of Mustafizur in this over...

    you mean on terrestrial?

Of course, 4 years ago, the great white hope for a future England leftie was Reece Topley, who i notice was released by Hampshire at end of last season and now with Sussex.

Had many, many problems with stress fractures.

Tom Curran is the brother they picked for the squad and is a right arm bowler.  I think both he and his brother (Sam, the left armer) are good players and will both play a lot of cricket for England.  But Curran seems to have been picked as "insurance" against another bowler being injured, rather than offering an "alternative".
  • I think Tom Curran was a good selection, handy with the bat as well, my worry in the bowling department is Rashid, who with his injury is not bowling well
  • TC is a specialist death bowler and a very good one at that. He has great variations and hits his Yorkers well.

The only really death bowling specialist in the squad. Not been needed as woakes archer and wood have all done well at the death despite being best opening up. I suspect this is the reason TC made the squad over say Willey as even though he offers the left arm variation being a swing bowler he is another who is most effective opening.
  • It was brilliant at Lords yesterday , no queues for beer or bogs , shame it isn’t like that all the time !
Although meant I got double pissed with no delays
I imagine the bar receipt income will have been shocking when compared to a normal international game there!
  • The weather forecast for next Thursday when we are playing suggests a chance of thunderstorms. The reserve day may be needed as I assume they'll play for the full 50 overs rather than cutting it down with a DLM target?

  • 2 constants for India throughout this tournament.

Bumrah's superb bowling. Rohit's superb batting.
  • Saffers putting up a good show in their final match. Starc seems to have a bit of a niggle too
  • We’re gonna get Aussies in the semi , wanted them in the final
  • We’re gonna get Aussies in the semi , wanted them in the final
Indian fans would have made the semi feel like a home game.
I would rather we play the sandpaper boys.

    Think we'll beat this time.

Roy back and we are fine against the Aussies

Get Finch or Warner early and you virtually eliminate any chance of them scoring 320/330+
  • Rishabh out Balls Before Wicket.

"Not only is that out, there are no balls left"
  • Finch out early, big blow for them
  • SA overloaded with potentially 8 bowlers today.
