  • Good luck Ben. Thanks for the memories. Wishing you all the best.
  •  i for one am Surrey to see him go,  one of are better players in the last seasons good luck to him.
  • A lot of ifs but assuming he could have fit in Garner's style of play and wasn't demanding too much in wages I'd have kept him as a squad player. Presumably we're going to need to bring in 2 LBs now, I'll be surprised if both will be significantly better than Purrington but we shall see.
  • Sorry to see Ben go and a nice message from him to the fans. Glad we gave him some memories and he did the same for us with his Wembley goal. Good luck for the future.
Garner must have something up his sleeve if he’s prepared to let Purrington leave. Let’s hope so.
  • Classy farewell from Ben P. Personally I would have kept him. All the best for the future Ben.

I kent believe you think that. He hasn’t got the spend/engine to play wing back
I have no doubt he will be a Sussex wherever he ends up
I have no Hampshire what's going on here.

  • A very thoughtful message from Ben there. A bit of a cult hero after his Wembley goal and further eye for goal from the left side. That said, scared me at LCB and insufficient pace (rather than effort) to patrol a left wing back slot, so this to me confirms we are sticking to 3 ATB and now on the look out for another touch line marauder.

    Good luck Ben!

We will play a 3 and a 4 at times next season.
  • I refuse to quote the person because they can't have been watching but when we changed to 3-5-2 Ben Purrington got a new lease of life and as the game developed he was spending lots of time in and around the oppositions box. The whole team seemed to lose form together except  Dobson and when CBT started playing well as a LWB then Purrs lost his place. Ben Purrington was a steady Eddie who couldn't always get back quick enough but had a decent time at Charlton overall. Should we be excited because we are getting two attacking LB who are quicker and strong in the tackle.
I can't wait to see these incoming signings.

Phillips owed both Ben and the BFG for stopping him getting pelters that day at Wembley and unlike the special one who doesn't even like football but wants to be a pundit ! BP will always be welcome back as a player or watcher.

If you weren't touched by Ben Purrington Validatory last speech on the official sight you are a hard hearted person who also felt nothing when JJ left after 12 years.
Whether you felt it was justified or not Thanks for the memory Ben.

Sad to see him leave as I think he is more than good enough for this level. Hopefully we have better coming in.

There's a rumour that's he's on his way to Ipswich.

  • Good luck Ben.
Always done your best and put in a shift, best wishes as you move on…
  • Now only Forster-Caskey left at the club who was part of the 18 man squad at Wembley.
Progress! We don't need players associated with our last success.

So we now need four first team full backs, unless anyone in the academy is ready to step up.
I wonder if we will go into the first game of the season without a left back like we did last season.

A major rebuild is needed more than ever before. I wonder how that's going seeing as pre-season starts next week & in a little over 10 days the squad go away to Spain

    Tick tock.

  • What nice words.

    I liked Ben
I did too. No tantrums or Billy Bigbollox stuff, just  gave his 100%.
    Proper pro, steady and dependable.

He's an old skool full back though, defender first.
LB in a 4 across the back is his game.

Can only think that Garner wants modern day wingbacks, with pace and penetration getting forward.
In all honesty that's not Ben Purr's game.

Despite that super goal at Wembley!

If anyone doubted the OS, Cawley or even Ben himself, it is 110% gospel.

Just need to check the Blackpool Instagram site now....

SCOOP! Ronnie Moore is really Chris 'Colin' Errington, sports reporter of the Plymouth Evening Herald!

I think BG has said there's a good core group, as did Jacko, so no big rebuild on the cards. 3-5 permanents and similar in loans, those signed late on, is all I'm expecting.

We need about 6 players just in defence
  • With Ben Purr leaving, there is now no recognised specialist fullback remaining at the club.

The Black Box Brigade have got their work cut out to find and sign 4 specialist wingbacks to be able to play Ben Garner's possession game.
Garner may persuade them to go shopping in Swindon, of course.

  • Interesting wording from Cawley

Ben Purrington is on the hunt for a new club this summer after being told he will not be offered a new contract by Charlton Athletic.

I thought that he was one we were talking about a new Contract with, especially when the list announcing who had been released was put out by the club last month.
So who is making this decision, Garner ? Who presumably won't have seen him play except from on video playing out of position. I'm not against letting players go but we have to replace them & I have to say I'm not over confident that we'll bring in two left backs who are both better than Purrington because obviously we'll need a starter & a back up or will Jed Roddy reappear ?

That sounds much more likely than 10-15 coming in, though even if we're planning to offload Gilbey and others it's not going to be announced - Garner will need to keep players onside while they're still here. I'd hope players like him moving on relies on replacements being lined up before they can be sold.

I agree it's the area that needs strengthening the most, but we need a first choice striker and back up too and I'm straying off thread.

Not sure we need 2 strikers unless we lose Stockley
