Glad that Oxford on Tuesday appears more of a one off for him, rather than him showing signs of Charlie Barker | Deji Elerewe syndrome, where he looks good to begin with, and then gets his inexperience exposed the more he plays.

In terms of our young Centre-Backs @ the club, he seems to have really sneaked his way into the First Team in some ways, as never really recall him being discussed as a serious option for us.

Will definitely lose his place when O'Connell comes back, and we could probably do with another more experienced Centre-Back, meaning that Lucas can go out on loan to a League Two side (Can he now having played for Charlton and Torquay this season?) - But in some ways, I'd keep him around, and sacrifice Sam Lavelle.

Very impressed with him today, especially as he's shown he can play in a back four at this level, and not just as a "number" in a back three.

I’m actually looking forward to seeing Ness and O’Connell together - if we’re unable to sign another centre back…

Do not want Inniss or Lavelle first choice.

I don’t agree he should definitely lose his place to O’Connell, if Ness is playing well he should stay in the team.

O’Connell looked the best of a bad/average bunch. He has also been at fault for a few goals with some dodgy defending at LCB.

Will we see O'Connell this season? Doubt it.

That was usually as a result of having Clayden @ Left-Back

True but we also like to throw poor Chin there too if Sess is out. So there's not guarantees that position will ever get an easier ride this season.

Play him behind a midfield that is compact, hardworking, and committed in the tackle, with a comfortable, senior, left back next to him, rather than behind a wide open, hiding midfield, with a teenage right sided midfielder next to him at left back and he suddenly looks a decent player again.

    Go figure.

Still along way to go and alot to learn but
there is something about him which makes me think he really could be something special for us !
when he has the ball hes composed and aerially quite dominant and aggressive which is nice to see from a youngster bursting onto the scene

He seems confident and even when we concede you dont see his head drop or him get affected he still gets stuck in

    keep it up Lucas 👏🏻🫡

He is a player who doesn't make my heart sink when he is in the side. Yes, a lot to learn but at the level required at this point and will surely improve beyond it from here.

Was probably papertalk, but werent there rumours of him being linked with Bournemouth, and Norwich after his loan @ Hampton last season?

I really rate him.. When you have a defender that you don't really notice on the pitch, I think that is a good thing. Little mistakes.

He then signed a 2 year deal a few months later. I imagine clubs had been watching him while he was out on loan knowing he was out of contract in the summer.

Cheers, dont recall this happening, so even better to hear we've got him tied to a deal

He clearly plays safe to reduce risk of mistakes, good luck to him.

I thought Ness looked quite composed during the pre season matches. Definitely ahead of Lavelle and Thomas at the moment, and no reason to rush O'Connell back too quickly either.

Lavelle and Thomas dragged off at half time vs Oxford followed by that interview snippet about him kicking the tactics board in half at how slow and disinterested we looked would seem to indicate exactly what Holden thinks of those two players

Yeah he will knock the ball out of play to prevent a cock up. It's what you need at league 1 level.

He looked ropey when played RB as he isn't a RB. Looks good now.

His performances of late including tonight have been really impressive. Can see him being scouted by Championship teams next few months.

Been impressed since I saw him against Cheltenham

Best compliment you can pay him is that he just looks comfortable and composed. Very impressed with him tonight.
