  • Thank fuck we tied him down to a new deal back in the summer... Good job signing off on that one Thomas!!
  • Depressing having good youngsters at the moment. Just killing time until they leave
  • Was superb and decent on the ball too. Surprised it’s taken us so long to give him a chance but he’s taking it

I know we were dreadful, but I thought Mitchell looked miles ahead of him against Cheltenham .  Fair play to Ness - he’s really taken his chance
  • Leaburn, Ness, AMB, the number of youngsters we churn out really is quite impressive.

I know the standard we're at is low so they'd be less likely to come through at a higher level, but even so, it's great to have these youngsters. No chance a new owner can even think of cutting the academy to save money, it's probably the only thing that will MAKE them money.
  • Great effort tonight.
Well played    -  utterly amazing performance at that  level and his age /    outstanding.
Its worth just watching his performance alone   -  A+++++

  • If you have a small, injury-prone squad, then youngsters get plenty of chances. And normally, with chances, they improve.

If we had a bigger, fitter squad, Ness would probably still be at Torquay.

There were some big clubs looking at Ness last year. Given our injuries and how poor Lavelle has been, I'm surprised he wasn't kept around at the start of the season.
  • Unfortunately his competition is O'Connell

    Inniss, O'Connell
    Mitchell, Ness
    Elerewe, Lavelle

Ness above Inniss for me at the minute. Thomas should be above Lavelle, Deji and probably Mitchell too.

Taking his age into account I suspect he’s better than Inniss and O’Connell, or at least up there with them. From memory he’s hardly misplaced a pass since he came in, and his positional play is very good. Between the three of them we’re pretty well covered at CB though.
The real issue is whether we can hang on to him. He’ll be much more in demand than Inniss or O’Connell.
  • Lavelle and Thomas don't really have a future at the Club I feel. Deji really needs to show he has something (outside of friendlies) as he is getting overtaken by players younger than him.
  • He’s been absolutely superb so far, but it has only been a couple of games. He won’t have anyone better than us looking at him yet, I remember people creaming themselves over Deji when he broke into the team (myself included), and he has spent half the year playing non-league

Definitely. Thomas ok as 4th choice for now but unlikely to stay beyond the summer. Not sure I'd be keeping Inniss either to be honest. Maybe as 4th choice if Ness continues his form.

So you'll make him play on the wrong side of defence at cost of the other CB that did brilliantly last night.

Isn’t Ness right footed so already on the wrong side?

I've not looked that closely, but he has pretty much always been left side of the CB's, even in the youth team from what I've seen.

OConnell also right footed, I believe.

Maybe we are still looking for another senior CB who is left footed?

Thought Norwich and Bournemouth were already rumoured to be watching him. And almost certainly there are others.

    Devil's advocate

    1. Leaburn joined aged 16 from Chelsea
    2. Ness joined aged 17/18 from Met
    5. AMB joined aged 16 from Oz

Add to them Lookman, Pope and Aribo and you could make an argument that slimming the academy right down in the younger ages and just having U15 and over wouldn't have hurt us too much in recent years (Gomez the exception?).

I would personally hate for the academy to be slimmed down but since EPPP came in our best academy kids (Sarmiento, Palmer, Beadle, Zemura) have chosen to chase the £ rather than even sign their first contracts with us.

TS getting Kanu and the other U18s to sign was probably the single best thing he has achieved in his time in charge.
  • Very good positionally but last few games he's looked very uncertain on the ball. Lots to work on still.

I disagree on the ‘uncertainty’. I think he looks very assured.

I agree. Been very impressed. Would like to see him alongside O’Connell.
  • He was nothing other than superb today. If it weren’t for him and AMB, it would have been 4 or 5-1 which would have been a fair reflection of the game.
