I was foolish enough to believe Ness could cover for Hector, bit naive of me.

Seems miles off it now and probably needs a loan to National League or thereabouts.

It's got to a point where if Jones gets injured we are screwed. The only centre back left on the books I have a bit of confidence in
I think we would recall Elewere.

CB's are at their best in partnerships.
Obviously when you play 2 not 3 at the back as that's a whole new ball game.
Ness looked assured last season when playing alongside Ryan Inniss !

Now that was a strange partnership to evaluate as Innis was erratic with solid games and error filled games but in comparison Ness looked calm and assured.

Lucas Ness is 22 in February and in my opinion would only go out on loan if we think he isn't good enough; This is where good coaching behind the scenes and the player's own drive and ambition to improve go hand in hand. Jones and Hector appear to be the first choices despite Hector emulating big Ryan at times with careless play.

Football is all about partnerships all over the pitch and Sunday's game proved that even against an 8th tier side of part timers if you play as individuals with no team cohesion you will struggle.

Both Deji 20 and Mitchell nearly 19 play with more confidence so this is a vital time for Lucas Ness to kick on.
Both Deji and Mitchell may not end up as CB as they both show attributes in other areas.

Don't think Deji looks that comfortable on the ball from the games I have seen.. Mitchell on the other hand is the more rounded player, who I think will have a good career. It wasn't really Ness's ball play that impressed me last season, it was the ability to read the game and get himself in to good position to make the tackle or blocks, that seems to have gone missing, and now looks like he has lost a yard of pace!

A shame. A patellar tendon injury often leads to huge doubts and confidence issues.

I think Ness is a good player. Anyone who went to the Man Ud away game can vouch for that. He definitely played better in partnership with Inniss ( as referenced above). I don’t think playing against Mickey Mouse opposition like Cray is likely to help his game.
He is more composed and quicker than Elewere. He needs to be playing every week , I would try and get him a loan in Jan and bring in an experienced No 5 as cover for Hector.

Serious knee injuries have a lasting effect on footballers. Speaking from experience from the age of 11 I played county level football and had various academy trials, at 16 ruptured my cruciate ligament, nearly a year out came back and 6 months later did the same on other knee I was never the same player, every twist or turn there was panic I would do it again and ended up packing it all in at 20.

Does he play U21 games? Not sure he does. It is an issue as we have all these squad players playing literally no football. Can't send them all out on loan.

Was it ever reported what the injury to the Patella was ?
When there was talk he may be fit for the last couple of matches last season only two months after the problem it made me wonder.
Lucas did the injury in March and normally if a tear that is normally 6 months and obviously not a rupture as Ness would still be out now.

Hopefully it's a temporary loss of form and nothing to do with any kneecap issues.

Ness is 22 and ought to be by now past the stage where we’re still discussing whether or not he’s going to make it. He should this season have been building on last season’s games. Yes he’s still young enough to be learning but it looks like he’s not. He’s definitely gone backwards and at present shouldn’t be near first team selection. Hopefully this is a patch he comes through but we aspire to be top six and he’s not a top six centre back or at least what we’re seeing now he isn’t. Teams don’t get top six with iffy CB’s and I’d say we have three out of four.

Don't think he's yet good enough to be in the squad of a team with top 6 ambitions. He may or may not make the grade. Hopefully the club loan him out and bring in bigger guns in Jan.

I believe it was referenced as a strain to the tendon.

Are we calling a game where he wasn't at his best a loss in form these days. He's looked excellent in all the games where he has come off the bench recently.

He is definitely one that needs to be playing regularly and if that isn't for us then I agree we should loan him out to league 2 for the rest of the season in January and bring someone else in. He has played so little football since March that I suspect the guy just needs a run of games. Maybe even a couple of u21 games would at least help him.

I like him though and am sure given the opportunity he can rediscover his form.

    Cheers.
That would explain why he wasn't out for six months(tear) or 12 months( Rupture) as an average.

Agreed - I was half decent as a centre forward (think of an annoying little wasp of a player like Paul Dickov 😃), and scored over 20 goals every season (best was 39 in a season when I was in my early 20’s, playing in a very good side indeed) - I was lucky with injuries, but did suffer from ankle ligament damage from a bad tackle when I was 29 - got over that - but when I suffered medial ligament damage on my right knee aged 32, from a tackle that belonged in a horror movie, that was the beginning of the end - long time for that to mend, but when I tried to play again, I was not the same player, had lost some pace (my game was all about my pace), and I feared tackles (which I never did before) - after about 10 games I was dropped to 2nd team, my knee was hurting like hell, and I wasn’t enjoying playing anymore - then later that season, my knee went again whilst turning to chase a through ball - that was it, packed up playing

I’m 53 now, and if it’s damp and cold walking the dogs, or at Charlton, my knee really hurts - reckon I will need a knee replacement in the future

Knees are complicated things, and once you have a serious injury, you won’t go back to normal, sadly

Maybe he can move onto Manchester Utd seeing he played so well there?
Pity he couldn’t play as well against Cray Valley Paper Mills.
