Gave up smoking last friday after 32 years. Still not sure what I think about it one way or the other. If it helps me give up I guess it has to be a good thing. But I used to get a lot of pleasure from a pint and a ciggy, that has been taken away. Went to a pub on the way home yesterday and it was empty, found it hard to enjoy my pint without my smoke, but I hope this is only a temporary feeling as life would not be worth living without enjoying a pint.
[cite]Posted By: cunningstunt87[/cite]No, because you have the option to go outside and smoke, or stay inside and not smoke. So the option is there for you.
Before with smoking and non smoking pubs I had a choice which ones I wanted to attend, this has now gone, the fact that I can now go outside and get rained on is totally irrelevant, adults should be able to make informed decisions on their own, without needing a government to dictate their lifestyles to them.
If I want to give myself cancer that MY CHOICE, if a non smoker wants to go to a smoking pub that is also THEIR CHOICE, these choices have been taken away from us and everyone seems so happy about it, just wait till its something they enjoy that gets banned.
I smoked up until Saturday night Stu. I made the choice to quit when the smoking ban came in, and the smoking ban has been useful. Prior to Sunday, the only non smoking pub around was the Wrong Un in Bexleyheath, 45 minutes away from mine on a bus. Long way for a decent quiet pint.
Theres a damn good reason for that, supply and demand.
All these people saying how well pubs will do now due to the ban, do they really think breweries are stupid? If pubs would have been so much more profitable as non smoking places, guess what, they would have been. If sitting in a pub having a smoke free pint meant so much to you, you would have travelled 45mins to get it. If not, enjoy a smoke free beer at home, I can't even have a beer and a smoke in my own home thanks to these new laws.

Now Now. No need to get personal is there.

It means alot to me, being able to have a smoke free pint. I no longer get that urge for a cigarette and, in the words of James Brown, I feel good. Its a truly wonderful feeling. Honestly, try giving up for a day and see how much better you feel.

in my years of smoking then not, then smoking then not, i'd like to think i've never been an annoying ex smoker.
its now been a couple of days, the fact i have an awful cold and the sorest throat in the world at the mo is actually helping me not crave a cig. once i get past this weekend (cricket and metallica gig) i can get through anything!
even when i gave up a couple of years ago for a couple of years, i didn't mind being around smokers, i quite like it. if smoking wasn't bad for you, i'd carry on, i love/d it.
i woudl say you would have a smoking staff - who dont mind working in a smoking pub and who will sign a disclaimer to that effect.
anyway i dont care too much. its just in things like tonight where its tricky to get out. like i said in another thread, glad i dont go to clubs anymore.

when i gave up for 2 years. i didn't notice a difference. nothing tasted better, i couldn't all of a sudden run further, my skin wasn't any better, it wasnt bad in the first place. nothing changed !
they are just incentives (fake ones) to make people believe that giving up is good (which it is for your insides) but really....how different do you really feel?
you're just high from your minty chewing gum!!! :-)

I hate breathing in other peoples smoke. Even when I was smoking, I hated it.
only thing i hate about smoking is in a restaurant or whilst eating in a garden. never smoked around eaters. and expected others to do the same. apart from that, smoke away!

He also said all the bars were absolutly packed and queueing out the door. Good luck curb it.
Then they have a choice which type of pub they want to go to.
Make working Mens clubs smoking, leave pubs free. You wanna smoke then head into a WMC. You don't wanna smoke, head down the pub.
mcs i have emailed you for further details...
What about those of us who would rather drill our eyes out than drink in a WMC, yet want to option to smoke?
Then go to a pub with a Beer Garden and take your pint outside.
I have all the answers me ;-)
Thats not an option, thats still taking away my choice.

I can see where your coming from with the Government comment though.
