What's a 'staycation', I thought it was just taking leave from work but staying at home. Is this another word that's been repurposed?
Nope, just means you can stay with family if you desire.. most importantly it also means that non single parents can finally get help with childcare again.
I was sat in my pub this morning marvelling at the work we’ve done this past 3 months & how ready we are for opening , no stone unturned & very confident that we have taken every measure possible , this pub is very very safe!! I’ve gone overkill to try & raise customers confidence, we have our own track & trace system , table app ordering , Ulv disinfectant fogging machine’s, forehead temp checks & changing every system we previously had in place , what could possibly go wrong...............

A very well done to you and I really hope your efforts will be rewarded. They deserve to be. I'm confident they will be as I'm desperate for a pub pint in a safe environment. Let's just hope there isn't a 2nd wave in the autumn/winter.
A far cry from your thoughts some months ago when you sounded as if you had all but given up.

I should probably know this but which is your pub mate? I reckon we should all come down and give your trade a boost (appropriately distanced of course)

Absolutely, a life lesson reaffirmed, keep a calm head things tend to not be as bad as they can look at times, initially I’d given up straight off the bat but although I’m delaying opening for a while I’m confident we are ready & have a positive feeling we are going to come out the other side stronger for it , being forced into the takeaway route has been a real eye opener & once reopen I’m expecting that to see my turnover higher than pre lockdown although mrs spitfire thinks I’m overly optimistic, from the 30 plus staff we had between two pubs we’ve managed to retain 25 now working from one pub the others have kept their lockdown jobs so it’s great no ones lost their job , I initially panicked & told them temporary redundancy was on but backtracked when the furlough scheme was announced which was one of the few good things done . The small business grants of 10k or 25k were a great help these were completely unconditional we got the latter , this has been spent on a small refurb & all our reopening measures o we look better than before we shut , from my point of view the economic measures of the government were spot on as I had enough to keep going & ive retained all staff & financially I will start back off pretty much where I was on day 1 of lockdown although I appreciate this wasn’t the case for everyone. noe it’s wait n see time & see what the publics reaction is will you all be out straight off on the 4th?

I’m in Buckingham m8 so a bit far unless a CL beano to the Grand Prix or MK Dons at a push but 100% a free beer for anyone that ever comes in with a charlton shirt on! If your ever in the area keep your eyes peeled I’m the only one in Buckingham with charlton memorabilia in it but it’s very subtle

All I got from this is that @Spitfire76 has an app that grasses on men who sneak out for a sly pint. Shame on you!

This is interesting to read. What would reassure somebody like me would be reminders that the establishment had taken things so seriously, from signs, tapes, verbal mentions, and the sight of staff being more careful than the customers. Purely personally I would be less reassured if the notion was that it has all been done in the background as it were, and not to worry or think about it. However my preference might well clash against others who want to escape it all and wouldn't want reminders.

I'm confident a certain percentage of the public will be desperate to go to a pub and you only need X amount to fill it.
Don't forget Riviera said his micro pub had a greater T/O with deliveries than he did before lockdown. He expected it to continue especially for people with young kids, who couldn't get out much and was planning on continuing the service.

Great work @Spitfire76 its clear you’ve put in a lot of effort. I hope you get the rewards.
personally, I reckon within a few days everything will go out the window and a lot of non-food driven pubs will be as they were pre lockdown. Not by their own making but by because most of their customers being idiots and landlords just won’t be strong enough to impose it, deal with the hassle.

I hear ya Seth & I will post some photos of the pub b4 opening , I listed the not so obvious measures we’ve taken but I’m well aware of the visual aspects for customers so along side our own (world beating) track & trace system , temp checks ,app ordering ,fogging machines , we have Perspex screens covering the whole bar over £1200 of custom made signage , £500 of automatic hand sanitizer stations , disposable menus, auto condiment dispensers , 2 metre distancing still in place dispite it about to be relaxed , removal of all bar stools ,elbow operated toilet signs to ensure only one in at a time , a one way system , £1800 sterilising unit for crockery , all staff fully gloved ,disposable aprons , masks & face shields. The pub is like a surgery & it will hit you the minute you get out your car with the new ways displayed on posters coming in & on the wall of each table along side either a written or email statement from us regarding all we are doing direct to loyalty card holders , all this effort is being made as visible for customers as is possible , our staff will have two training nights with the new measures & then a soft opening night with a full sitting (with our new reduced capacity) of complimentary meals for those that have supported us & used our cook at home service during lockdown to make sure all is workable before paying public come in . i really hope people give the pubs a chance there has been a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to make this as safe and enjoyable as possible & all this is with only one person in mind ,you the customer & we will keep you safe.
There will inevitably be a lot that have given no thought & I hope customers are more choosy where they spend those hard to come by ££

Quite concerned that Germany's R rate climbing from 1.2 to almost 3 in a matter of days might be a sign of things to come, if we keep loosening the lockdown. No one from the government seems concerned. Are we somehow going to avoid something similar happening?

I must admit I’m glad I’m in the pub I am at the moment ,some of my older drinking pubs in places like Cardiff & Brighton I can see being hard work with the age of the clientele & whatever measures you put in place mean nothing if people won’t follow them & piss heads are hard enough to deal with at the best of times , I thought initially he would only let food pubs open first or at least table service drinks only but it sounds as if he’s going whole hog , hypocritically it will be a while untill I’m comfortable going to a drinking bar to watch footie with crowds of people

Good luck and I hope it’s a roaring success. Aside from the horrible losses people have suffered, I think a lot of people would’ve had their livelihoods decimated and I just hope as many people as possible can prosper in the months to come
Hearing rumours of fans being allowed in from September and the number of 5000 being banded around, wonder how that would work with season tickets etc as would it be the 1st 5000 to purchase are allowed in.
My fear for the pub sector is July August people will be inclined to host at home people have spent 2 months working on gardens etc and getting furniture and it’s also a lot cheaper - I hope all the pubs survive but do fear after a couple of weeks the novelty will wear off.
I was the old kings head at London Bridge last Friday v well set up 1 window for ordering the 2nd for collection but £4,50 for a flat pint of carling to stand in an alleyway can’t help thinking I would be enjoying a lager at home more.

My thoughts exactly. Same applies for a lot of barber shops. Thousands of hair clipper sold during lockdown. I wonder how many will continue to trim their own hair.

agree with this, whilst I still really want to support my local (and will) we've now got into a nice Saturday night routine of a few family coming over for a few beers in the garden, no need for babysitters (our little ones go to bed), the older ones play in the garden or watch some TV and we light the chiminea and sit outside on our newly purchased garden furniture.
Nice and easy and relaxed, whole evening costs me what I'd normally spend on 1 round etc. Would love the pubs to get back to 'normal' but think that's still a long way off.
France allowing crowds of up to 5000 for sporting events from 11th July.
Toilets may be the restriction, but in this country surely open air sports like cricket and golf could do something similar. You could easily have 2000 in Lord's or The Oval for example to watch a county match or to watch a golf tournament. Maybe have a rule that you wear a mask when indoors

Vacation in your home country - the word predates Covid.
A mixing of the words 'station' and 'vacation'.
It's for all true addicks who enjoy collecting train numbers whilst holidaying around the British railway network.
They deserve to be.

I'm interested to see what plans are afoot for nightclubs and the clubbing scene in general.
