Akin Famewo - sold to Sheff Wed by Norwich (p13)

Equally, I'm not saying that it is solely down to him, but since James Beadle, our other ex-player that has gone there, Weds have picked up 16 points from 10 games (1.6 points per game) including 5 clean sheets (50.0%). That is opposed to the previous 27 games where they collected 22 points (half the number per game at 0.8 points) and had just 4 clean sheets (14.8%). They've started together in 4 games with 7 points taken (1.75 per game).
There was a fear from some, including "Massive" fans, that a relegation battle wasn't something that a rookie 19 year old who is bound to make the odd mistake at least learning his game, would be a liability. I think it's fair to say that he is proving them wrong now given that they are just two points off being out of the relegation zone, having looked at one point as being doomed.
Although Beadle might have been only 17 when Famewo was there, he would have trained with the first team, I wouldn't mind betting that the management asked Famewo about his character and whether he thought that Beadle was up to the job not just from a pure technical perspective. Whatever the case, I think it's probably quite difficult for us to criticise either of them given they are both playing at a standard we can only currently dream of. For now at least because they aren't out of trouble yet.1 -
They appointed a new manager, maybe his ideas are getting through to his squad, just like NJ has improved our results.1

Danny Rohl is annoyingly doing an outstanding job at Wednesday. They were absolutely dead and buried before he went to there. If they go down and keep him, they’ll be challenging right at the top. The comfort is that Wednesday going down is always funny and Chansiri normally finds a way of messing things up.As for Famewo, seen him a couple of times this season and he doesn’t really seem to have progressed much since we had him. His positioning in the Leeds game this weekend was really poor and his passing was very hit and miss. His physicality remains good and his pace can get him out of a few tricky situations.2

Weds signed three players in the window - Pedersen (just one start in a 4-0 defeat), Beadle and Ugbo. It's Ugbo's vital 6 goals and Beadle's contribution in improving the defence (Famewo only started two of those wins) with one goal conceded in those 5 wins, that have got them 15 points, especially as three of those wins were by a single goal (and they had to play with 10 players for the last 15 minutes against Birmingham in their 2-1 win).0 -
It appears that no one might be able to save them

The heart bleeds for either Sheffield club, eh1

Wendnesday should have been sent down instead of us from the Championship.....EFL bottled it2

Throw the book at them and Millwall, they should both be relegated for such behaviour. Disgraceful.0

Contract ends 30th June. It seems refreshing being the team chasing a player out of contract.

Would you take him back?2 -
It's not a position that we are desperate to fill at this stage is it? We have Gillesphey, Jones, Alex Mitchell, Zach Mitchell and Ramsay. It would mean offloading one of those for a player that only started 11 games last season.
I would prefer us to spend all our time and resources searching out those midfield and attacking players that are going to make the difference.2 -

I seem to remember him having a fairly lengthy spell out injured when with us before, so his injury record is a worry, but if NJ wants him, our doctor is happy with him, and with our relaid training pitches reducing the likelihood of further muscular strains, then yes I would because he has more Championship experience than our existing options at the back.
However, because he's coming back from a serious injury and lay off, he'd need to have his game time carefully managed. I doubt we'd see him at his best initially, so I wouldn't be quick to judge.
Just a rumour though, but I'd give it a like.0 -

I liked him. Very athletic. He'd be fighting Gillesphey for a spot if the formation is to say the same.
A lot has been said if you look back through this thread about some poor distribution traits. Same could've been said about Gilesphey before Jones got hold of him.
Injuries more of a concern for me.4 -

We should be aiming for 2 on every position so that's 6 across the back 3. Depends on NJ's view of Zach whether he's in the 6 or has to force his way into the 6.
We treat the back 3 like specialist positions so need a dedicated LCB to compete with Gilly

Equally you can't, financially, have an infinite squad. Does the fact that we play three CBs when others play two means that we have to have two more players in our squad than those other clubs? I would rather we went for someone with proven fitness and who can double up at LCB and LWB. What's Hermann doing these days?

Error prone, not good on the ball and not as quick as he thinks he is, no thanks3

Think the fact he’s been offered another contract is a bit of a red herring as Wednesday will have known an embargo was coming and been keen to tie down whoever they can4

It drives me absolutely bonkers to think that we are in an age where a position has become so specialised that we are looking to sign a player that fits the same criteria that we would ask of a keeper i.e. that he is a specialist in one position and that one position only i.e. a left sided CB. Are we saying that an intelligent footballer like Zach couldn't do that? I can understand creative players like a Ferenc Puskas, a Liam Brady or Andy Reid being so one footed because they had wands for a left foot. Anthony Barness, though, could play both sides as could Dennis Irwin. Defenders didn't know which way to go when playing against Ginola because he was so good on both sides.
But I still come back to this one thing. Why are we the club that always has to gamble? I thought those days were long gone.0 -
