  • Anyway back on topic....

I feel sorry for Johnny Williams, he cant play as a 10 unless Doughty doesn't play (or plays at left back) and now he is injured he has just spent over an hour running around on a ploughed field.  What ever your opinion of him as a footballer you must admit he doesn't have much luck.

I think this team selection will be based on who is fit enough to start tomorrow, more than with 1 eye on Saturday.   I would think Watson and Shinnie would come in regardless, then it's which ones come out.

Are Chuks and Maddison fit enough to start?

I doubt we'll see Chuks until at least the weekend.

No reason why Maddison won't play a part from the bench, with a view to starting him at Pompey.

Just for the record I am with @MrLargo.

Gobinson was most embarrassing Charlton manager of all time with the obvious exception of Carol Fraye
    Dowie? Reed? Pardew?
Pardew beat West Ham 4-0, drew at Anfield, nearly kept us in the Premier League and then did the double over Palace the following season. An arrogant tosser, and by no means a brilliant manager (although he has also got 2 FA Cup Finals on his CV unfortunately), but to say that Pardew is a worse manager than Robinson is staggering. Do you actually think that?!

Despite the fact that the football was appalling under Robinson, the main reason I loathe him so much is because he quite happily allowed himself to be the salesman for Roland's ridiculous way of running our club. He quite happily signed up to the "see how you get on in the first half of the season and then we might spends some money in January". He told us that Katrien and Roland were good guys. Any manager with any credibility (Chris Wilder for example) wouldn't have wanted to be associated with such a shoddy set up.

Joke of a manager, joke of a man.

So you’re saying Bowyer has no credibility? Let’s not forget that Bowyer is often the first to defend Roland and has never bad mouthed the regime, while Robinson did towards the end.

Jackson also gave some praise to Roland in his recent interview, as well as a fair amount of criticism.
Not said that anywhere. In relation to Roland, Bowyer's said in the past "he leaves us to get on with it". He's also frequently said that he's been managing with his hands tied behind his back. It's hardly singing his praises. He certainly never said he thought it was a good idea to do the bulk of your transfer business in the January window, as Robinson did.

And I well remember Robinson slagging off the regime towards the end, when he was trying to manipulate his way out of the club and into the Oxford job. Typical of the sort of bloke he was.

Anyway, going round in circles and it's a bit boring. I can't stand the bloke, you clearly think he was terrific and must have seen something inspiring during the multiple defeats against Bury, Peterborough, Oxford, Northampton, Gillingham and Southend that I'm not astute enough to spot.
    1) You kind of did, saying “Any manager with any credibility (Chris Wilder for example) wouldn't have wanted to be associated with such a shoddy set up.” Your dig at Robinson could also be applied to Bowyer, hence the question.

    2) Tone down the tribalism mate, I’ve already said I’m glad he’s gone. Just find it baffling that someone could hate someone who they’ve never met and wasn’t even that terrible a manager.

Would you not rest Watson for Saturday? He seems to love a yellow

I thought Williams had an OK game. It wasn't his best but he was involved. If he is up to it, I'd definitely start him tomorrow. In fact, fitness permitting, Pratters, JFC and Jonny would be a good starting point.

Are Saturday's points any more import than Tuesday's?   Get 4 either way and I would be happy.
  • 1-0 Charlton

Washington...a scrappy kinda goal after a wonderful counter attack.

The way things are going, I don't think Bowyer would be happy with 4. I genuinely believe he will be working on nine out of the next nine, then take a "cup break". 3 promotion chasing teams, turn them out and all aboard the type 45 they keep using on Twitter.

Understand your point but I think it’s a case of game management and horses for courses. If you start Pratley on Tuesday then Ben Watson is guaranteed to be available for Saturday, even off the bench.

If you start Watson on Tuesday he’s almost certainly going to get booked and completely miss the Portsmouth game, who are certainly better than Oxford.

Inniss has got the potential to be as dangerous at corners as Big Dave Shipperley in the 70s, who used to charge in from the corner of the box and nearly always got his head to the ball. He was a very, very difficult man to block off once he got up a head of steam. We also had precision deliveries from the likes of Colin Powell.

Opponents will also be so concerned about Inniss' aerial prowess that they'll be vulnerable to the occasional variation in approach, such as a near post flick on from another of our players (the sort of routine that Mark Kinsella and Stevie Brown used to deploy).

JFC put in a few good corners on Saturday and Maddison is a renowned dead ball specialist, so our goal output from this important source should improve. It's an important area of the game and one that we've hardly excelled at in recent years. Smyth's long throws might also prove useful on occasions, with Inniss looking to flick the ball on at the near post and generally create some chaos.
Looking at Inniss's record, I was surprised that in 116 games he's only scored 2 goals, you'd have thought that with his aerial power he'd have scored more often than that. 1 goal in 29 games for Newport last season in L2 is a surprisingly low return

Phil Chapple for example scored 15 goals in 167 matches for us
Further back, Paul Went coincidentally scored 15 in 163 for us and had a fairly decent scoring record at some of his other clubs
I seem to remember Paul Went played up front a few times.
he did .. in that era a few players switched between centre half and centre forward, the Charles brothers John and Mel perhaps the best known
    King Arthur for us

  • Another thing we will have to factor in is the possibility the season can't be finished. So there is the primary objective and a secondary one to get us in the promotion positions by the time half the total games are played and beyond.
  • Another game we need to win if we are going to realistically targeting a place in the top two.

No reason to believe we won’t win this one. Going for a 2-0 Smyth and Inniss
  • Please remember that this is a 7pm kick off.
  • I'm going for a squeaky bum 1-0
  • Nice and comfortable- 3-0. Inniss, Maddison and Bogle.
  • If Smyth scores we will win.

Matt Hancock will also find the cure for COVID-19 and Boris will hand deliver school meals to children dressed as a dildo.

  • Feel Maddison must be close to being given a start especially if Alfie is injured.
  • In a spirit of optimism, I predicted a two-nil win against Np'ton and was duly rewarded.

Optimism is back in vogue at Charlton, and not before time too. So I'm going for another two-nil. No idea about scorers though.

SE16, if that is where they are going, then that is 3 points to us
  • Is Matthews available for tomorrow?
  • With Chuks out, doubts over Doughty, and Maddison I imagine not ready to start, I slightly worry about our goal threat tomorrow, especially if Bowyer rotates Bogle back to the bench. I suspect that if win, it will be another hard fought 1-0 type victory

I'd like to see us go for a more attacking side.

Knobinson likes the smell of his own farts so will expect to be able play his usual stuff.

    Amos
    Gunter - Inniss - Famewo - Maatsen
    Watson
    Shinnie - F.Caskey
    Williams
    Smyth - Washington

2-2 Inniss sees red and Williams somehow scores a brace.
