in Jackett’s interview he said their fella felt his hamstring at half time so they took him off
Bowyer said ‘he (Famewo) was tight the other night. We thought It might be from his back and with it being Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday… it’s tough. Unfortunately, he’s just tweaked it there a little bit I think."
You just know their fella will be back quicker than ours
Famewo had taping up his hamstring. An accident waiting to happen, sadly.
It’s Bowyer, Jackson’s and Gallens job to put a side together, and promotion is their objective for the next working year. However, that is also the objective of every management team at every club in league 1, 2 and Championship.
As this squad was put together, I was largely going “who the fuck is he” but crikey, have our management team shown they know their stuff. Although I appreciate we are still a bigger fish in this pond, these players were readily available to our rivals. Yet, we have them.
Congratulations to our management team, on putting this squad together, and also on refreshing the enthusiasm of our relegated players from last year, to put that behind them, and get on with the new season. Players new and old have really stepped up and played with a passion and pride, that makes me proud to say I support them.
And of course to Thomas, who has enabled this to happen. Will it continue, who knows.... But, if this is as good as it gets, what a great month October 2020 was.
What’s impressed me most with recent performances is that we haven’t allowed poor refs to rob us of points.
In previous seasons all of the post-match talk would have been about the penalty Bogle didn’t get today, the Innis red v Oxford or the disallowed goal v Blackpool.
The team’s shown great resilience to get over those setbacks and see out the wins. Excited for the rest of the season!
On 25 minutes , I commented that the match had a similar feel to Tuesday evening's against Oxford......somewhat under the cosh, on the back foot on the whole, but without too much conviction, added that at this point, we then started to turn the tide....
Cue a fantastic cross field pass from the rejuvenated JFC a sliding ball into the goalmouth from young Ian and "IIIT'S JONNY !!"
The rest is history....once in front I felt pretty confident we'd take the 3 points . Our defence is immense. Awesome. And at present unbreachable.
Then another masterful stroke by the gaffer brought on the 2 subs that made and scored our 2nd. Another supreme cross from young Smythe , met by our Chunks, rising majestically at the far post. Game over .
In these dark times, there is little enthusiasm for making plans with the concern that we know not what the next day holds.
One of the few things we surely all look forward to is the next match - our week is geared up to that all too brief 90 minutes watching the lads in the red/grey shirts.
And, boy , how those lads are rewarding us ! Our Christmas presents are arriving early this year and it feels SO good !
THANK YOU, Bow, JJ and SG.
And THANK YOU, Thomas......
......for lighting the way towards a new, exciting era for our famous football club.
As the Quest show mentioned, what's impressive is that our run of clean sheets isn't mainly because of great saves and last ditch tackles, it's because we're not allowing the opposition to have many chances. And that happened today in a midfield including Williams and JFC, so we don't need to stuff our side with water carriers to keep clean sheets
Surprised at all the comments saying Pratley should have been off. I think it was a yellow but to get a red for that you need to make contact
So if you make a two footed, studs up challenge, and the opposition player is fortunate enough to jump out the way just in time you don't think it should be a red - even though the intent was the same?
Not seen Pratleys challenge but I have seen Millihavich's one for Palace. Not even a yellow that one.

So would you have dropped him and played Pratley in his place?
That’s the goal Chuks needed ... you watch him go now ...
A very significant win, we fear no one now ...
The group is gelling, Bowyer is doing his thing... we are f******* going places ladies and gentlemen.
The phycological lift of FINALLY focusing on the football is like chains coming off the club, the supporters, the team and the manager.
I’m saying it now, Bowyer knows what is needed and has a very solid base to work with due to the brilliant work of his management team, he knows the group is capable and finally has some depth, he knows now is the time and we will get even stronger in January.
I know it’s a bold call, but I’m calling it now, we are going up !!

I’d have probably taken him off on 70 mins to protect him
Williams, JFC and Shinnie do compete in midfield as well as bringing in other elements. BTW, I thought that ball from JFC in our first was total class. It completely opened them up. I really feel we have the player back who was starting to get people taking notice before his serious injury.
I was as bit so so regarding signing Shinnie. Not unhappy, but thinking he was a good squad player. He has shown what an outstanding signing he was. I would have to question why Luton let him go. I know it is a lower level, but he can play Championship no problems.
Pratley is a bloody hero. Bowyer probably thanks the lord for having him every night before he goes to bed.
I thought Williams looked much better than previous games and when he went forward it caused them no end of problems. Still some improvement required and he faded away (lack of match fitness) but their midfield couldn’t contain him in the pocket. So pleased to see him put in a performance and get the goal, a fit and firing Jonny will scare the shit out of teams
Isn’t it nice to be looking how far off the top of the table we are, rather than how close we are to the relegation zone. Spent too many Saturday nights doing that last season. Now, the only way is up.
5 of the top 7 are ex Pl clubs (apologies if already mentioned) and 2 of the top 8 are L1 clubs that seem to always be in the mix around that top 6 spot. If ever there was s season to be able to go to the games home and away this would have been it.
I just cannot fault any of our lads today, the effort that was put in all over the pitch was incredible. This bunch of players want to play for the shirt and want to get out of this league. It goes without saying how gut wrenching it is we cannot support them, just imagine this lot playing in front of 20000,the roof would come down.
Hopefully the injury news isnt as bad as first thought. For once things are lining up for us. One more game then a break to get players back fit. After the break we can play the next few games full of confidence. January window then opens and we can add to the squad to strengthen for the rest of the season. Not a chance we dont make top 6 and I still think we will win automatic promotion
My view was that we started off 4-diamond midfield - 2. Pratley was at the base of the diamond, FC on the right, Shinnie on the left and Williams up front.
As the game went on the formation seemed to change a few times and Pratley certainly did drop back into what looked a back 3 at times.
Brilliant performance yesterday and Bowyer, with Gallen and Sandgaard, has built what looks like a fantastic squad well equipped to do very well this season. I would urge a note of caution though-we’ve only played nine games and it is a bloody long season.
We’ve had a good start, as a few teams have, but history has taught me to leave alone any talk of where we are going to finish with this many games to go.....

No, I would have played Barker.
I really don't think throwing a raw young CB like Barker up against Marquis would have done anyone apart from Portsmouth any good at all.

This.
Look at last season. After half a dozen games people were dreaming of promotion to the Prem. During the International break we lost Taylor & then a host of injuries saw us slide down the table.
Any talk of promotion should be saved until Easter time.
I think we stumbled onto something resembling our best attacking formation yesterday, although I'm not quite sure what it was. The midfield seemed to have better balance.
Shinnie is such a reassuring presence when he gets the ball as he has the composure to look for a progressive ball. And JFC was also able to play some good direct stuff.
Bogle/Chuks with Washington off them, and Williams/Smyth linking midfield to attack.
It was good. We played well. I do hope we keep this framework.

Difference is last season it was a dream, we needed everything to go our way including injuries and investment in January.
This season play-offs is the minimum expectation and the top two is a realistic target.

And only Pratley in midfield. We don't need Watson & Pratley to be solid.
