In fact, I'll stick my neck out now. I reckon he could well go back to Man Utd in January.
The only reason we might keep him is that as an U21 his wages (if we pay any) don't count towards the cap
Man U might not be happy though!
Good points.
But, as you say, I can't see United being happy if he doesn't play. In that respect, I'd love to know whether there is a clause in the loan agreement that he has to be in the 16 if fit.
I'm always a bit suspicious when a loan player keeps appearing on the bench but never seems to come on...
He's been in the 18 in every match, started 3, been on the bench in the other 7 matches and NEVER come on.
He's starting to look like a last resort signing, in that period before TS took over when we had no money and he was all we could bring in. Once the finance arrived, we could and would do better
If loan players have a recall clause then we should be able to send them back on the same basis. No ifs no buts. Chelsea did it with Gallagher & I bet Man U wouldn't have any qualms recalling Levitt if he was pulling up trees come January. Works both ways.
Could Fleetwoods Evans be worth a bid in January. Hate to be completely predatory but I think Fleetwood are in quite serious financial problems according to their CEO.
Oh hell no.
Would rather Burns.
“There is no such uncertainty as a sure thing.” ― Robert Burns,
I don't see Levitt offering anything Albie doesn't or could.
They're different players. One's an attacking midfielder and the other one's a deep-lying playmaker. Levitt gets in the side if Pratley and Watson are unavailable, or we fancy knocking it about a bit more
I agree with that Leuth.
A further point, we've had a bit of a rebuild with so many new players coming in over the last few weeks. Several of those have had no pre-season or they're lacking in match practice.
Bowyer's opted for a protect the defence policy with the 2 old hands, Prats and Watson, doing lots of ugly work and using their experience. They can rotate with each other once the new people have settled in and their fitness is up to scratch; Levitt will get games in rotation. His style of play will perhaps offer the chance to play more expansive football.
Under the embargo, Bowyer bust a gut to get Levitt, who's rated very highly not just by Bowyer himself, but by the Man U and Wales set ups. Even though he's only 19, I believe we'll see Levitt get opportunities when the time is right for the team to be set up to play to his strengths.
But bearing in mind that our midfield tonight was missing JFC and Williams who both played well on Saturday, Gilbey and Maddison who have both been injured AND Pratley who was in defence, I'm struggling to see Levitt getting much of a look in, especially when we are playing fewer midweek games
What I enjoyed about tonight's game was the fact that the midfielders (Maartsen & Shinnie especially) kept coming inside and switching play to the other wing - Maartsen found Bogle on a number of occasions as did Shinnie with Washington. Last few seasons I've been tearing my hair out as time & again things would break down when our rb/lb would pass inside only for that player to pass back again or go backwards. So refreshing to see forward movement, both with & without the ball.
I would love TS to try to buy both Shinnie & Maartsen. To often recently we've had to rebuild season after season because the loan players have gone back & we've had to restart all over again.
Also, on another tack.......what's the ruling with the team we need to play in the Pizza Cup ?? I know before you had to play the majority of players that played your last league game. Does that stupid rule still exist.....especially as no fans are attending (and therefore making it less of a spectacle) and that we are out of the competition already.
And am I right in thinking that the Rochdale game will be called off due to International call ups & if so our next league game is not until the 21st. Great to be able to rest a few players & to get a few more fully fit.

I don't think such an attitude would help us to secure future loanees. I think a more constructive approach, discussing with the player and the parent club what the issues are and doing our best to nurture their talent would be best for all in the long run.

Shinnie is a realistic buy in January AND it would free up a loan space, though the wage cap might be a problem. I can't see Chelsea selling Maatsen BUT if we go up, why wouldn't they loan him to us next season in the Championship?

Rochdale game should be off assuming the Wales caretaker manager picks our lot.
No idea on the rules on team selection for the Mickey Mouse trophy but against Brighton we played all the kids and Ben Watson so guessing it's not strict

Omar Bogle was superb tonight, deserved a goal for that performance, held it up well and got into good positions. Getting better by the game. Young Ian looks a real talent also.
Charlton lost their clean sheets and so did I when fleetwood pulled those 2 back , I shit myself . Thanks to the calming words of Leuth at ht who knew we’d win cos we had Watson and Pratley to marshall the game to safety for us . I still think we’ve got so much more to give as a team and we haven’t got rocking and rolling just yet . Promotion is ours for the taking but not a gimme , Sunderland are looking decent as well .
I thought everyone played really well in parts but they all disappeared as well !
My heart couldn’t take the stress of it all so more boring wins please .
22% Automatic promotion
73% Play offs
5% 7th-12th

Bowyer has been pretty publicly critical of Morgan in the past, so it's great to see him say that. Big boost for Morgan and like he says hopefully a big step forward for him, as i always like to see our youngsters do well.
In fact, I'll stick my neck out now. I reckon he could well go back to Man Utd in January.

They might not be happy that he's not playing but they'll probably be more concerned that a supposed shining light from their academy who is 20 in a couple of weeks cannot get into a league one teams midfield.
For example, compare his impact to Maatsen who is 18 months younger. I'm not completely writing Levitt off as he's still young but based on what we've seen so far i think we all know which one is more likely to have a PL career.
The best thing about last night for me is that we've beaten one of the divisions best sides (i'm confident Fleetwood will be top 6-8) and we've done it without Famewo, Pearce, Oshilaja, Gilbey, Williams, Levitt, JFC, Smyth, Doughty and Maddison.
What a squad we've built in such a short space of time. Throw in AMB to the list above and that's possibly a side that could finish mid-table in league one.

Almost certainly will be off.
Gunter, Matthews (possibly), Levitt, Williams plus Washington for NI. Pretty sure 3 from those 5 will get picked.
Fleetwood played their part in an entertaining game. I felt we outplayed them for the first 30 minutes and probably should have added to our two goal margin. The two goal cushion quickly evaporated thanks to a Ched Evans double and Bartons boys finished the half on top. We soon got back in the groove for the 2nd half with a well worked Albie Connor link up resulting in a clear penalty. We saw out the rest of the game with a defensive resilience I've seldom seen for many years. Gladly Maatsen was heavily involved as I for one thought he might have been rested after his exertions against Pompey. Not withstanding this we still created some good chances on the break. Onwards and upwards we go! Bows is building a team we can finally be proud of again.
Was trying to watch the game while working so wasn’t able to give it my full attention. I may have missed some things as a result but a few thoughts.
1) Big performance for Albie. I was worried his career was just starting to drift a bit and he was not taking on board what Bowyer was, in my option, quite rightly trying to get him to realize. Tonight he took a significant step in the right direction, influencing play at both ends of the pitch and making a match winning contribution. Hopefully it’ll be a penny drops moment. I think he can learn a lot from Shinnie and should aspire to be that kind of player. The two of them linked up well too.
2) Was a bit underwhelmed by Washington to begin with but in the last couple of matches he’s been excellent. Thought he was great tonight, and not just the goals. His work rate is fantastic and he can play a bit too. Nothing fancy but very solid. Real signs of a partnership with Bogle too.
3) Really hope Bogle gets his goal soon. It’s richly deserved, I think he’s been excellent for us. A bit unlucky again tonight, great shot that led to Washington’s goal, was right behind Purrington ready to head it in if Purrington hadn’t and when his chance did come I think he was just running on empty. We saw the effect of confidence on a striker there. Chuks gathers that in and smashes it home (see the effort that hit the post for evidence of Chuks’ confidence), but Bogle just hesitated slightly and the chance was gone. Fine margins.
Overall we looked much improved going forwards and after a weird first half the defensive solidity returned. The team has gelled very quickly despite many new signings, fights hard for the cause, is getting better every match, and even without looking to have hit top gear yet has beat two playoff contenders and last season’s play off finalists in consecutive matches.
Maybe I’m getting carried away, but I’ll tell you what this is all reminding me of... 2011/12, that’s what.
Of the next 8 league games 7 are against teams currently in the bottom half of the table. The team we play in the top half is lying 11th at the moment.
Such an important game. Lose and we're level with them on 19 points and out of the play-off positions. Win and we're six points clear and looking good for an automatic spot. For thirty minutes we looked a league apart from them with some absolutely brilliant passing and moving. A couple of sucker punches and we had it all to do again. It pains me to say it but Evans is a quality striker. Fleetwood played well and proved they're more than a one man team though. Their winger (can't remember his name) caused Purrington all sorts of problems. Great to see that we dug in well though, although I'm sure we'd have looked more assured at times if we'd had Famewo at the back. Bottom line is that everyone contributed with a real gutsy performance. The most exciting game of the season. The hardest won three points. A good night all round.
I agree about Ched Evans. As much as he is a tainted man, I can’t help wishing we had him in our team. He is one hell of a striker. With him, we would walk this league.
