Charlton Athletic v Fleetwood Town | Tuesday 3rd November 2020 | Post Match thread

After Purrington got us an early goal and Washington put us 2-0 just after the half hour, two quick goals in reply from Fleetwood meant a degree of twitchiness at half time, but a penalty won by Morgan and scored by Washington was enough to get us the three points, even if it did require a concerted rearguard action for much of the second half.

Hopefully a lesson learned to not be complacent. Clean sheet in the second half though!

Yeah I really missed not being at the match tonight, would have been great.

Best team we’ve faced by some distance. That’s the kind of win that gets you promoted, bar the opening 25 it wasn’t pretty but we had a huge set back and came back from it. Great win.

Is it bad that I fear I’m mostly going to remember Bowyers reign for the last 10-minutes of headless chickenism and players shitting themselves as any game that we’re not losing edges to a close?

Great result that against, from what I’ve seen, the best footballing side we’ve played. Could of folded after that mad 2 mins, but we sorted ourselves out and did what we needed to do. Chuks looked really lively when he came on. Onwards and upwards. Can’t see anyone stopping us at the moment.

Hoof it football doesn’t suit us. We are so much better with the ball. 3 more points going towards getting out of this fucking orriible league.

That's one hell of a single sentence, Ali.

    Impressed.

that's about as good a 3rd tier game as you're going to see, both teams played some good stuff but take out the 2 minutes of madness and we were comfortable enough overall. all the lads did great

Finlay and Evans need a slap, and where oh where did they get that linesman from?

  • Excellent win against a very impressive Fleetwood side.
How long have we got to wait for Chuks to start ahead of Bogle. He offers so much more.

I do wish we adopted some sort of alternative approach. I don't just think this is Bowyer though. We've always seemed to have done it no matter who the manager is

She's back to a 5/10, just like that
  • Great game. Maatsen is some player, Watson showed his experience, Bogle was unlucky not to score, Washington ran his socks off again and Chuks superb.

The ugliest of wins but these are what you need

We have everything. Technical ability, natural talent, fight, hard work. What a squad Bows, JJ, Gallen and Sandgaard have put together. Got a great feeling about this season.
  • A game we looked like we were cruising at one point, ends up being a tough well earned victory. Fleetwood are a tough, physical, well drilled side - we won't get many victories better than that one I reckon.

Personally was a bit miffed with Bowyers tactics and late substitutions second half - felt like moving to the back 5, and not bringing on a Chuks, or Smyth earlier really invited pressure on.

But hey - I've not won 6 games in a row now have I.
