  • Shoot me if you like....Im up to page 76...but I do remember thinking and saying at the time that Curbs had probably taken us as far as he could go. What happened after was the thing of nightmares.

Bring in a manager who plays a real system and build a squad to play it. Who is our Nuno Espirito Santo or Bielsa? I think that's got to be part of Roddy's role, identifying prospective head coaches out there who are innovative.

I really do not want to see a bog-standard league one manager who we will have to replace in a few years anyway. Find a manager who plays a real system and build to that system.
If TS replaces Bowyer then agree with that approach as long as that includes some flexibility, not glued to 4-2-3-1 or whatever formation they favour. Robinson, Luzon and Peeters all stuck rigidly to their one formation. It’s the other extreme of Bowyer this season.

Out of all the opposition teams this season I thought Doncaster Rovers played the best football. They ripped us apart at the Valley (I was lucky enough to be there) playing nice free flowing well organised football. We were never in with a shout. They seem to have done well all season until their recent dip. Not sure who there manager is, but if he could get us playing the way Donny did I’d be more than happy.
A youngish, enthusiastic and progressive L1 manager who could cope in the Championship would be ok by me, it doesn’t have to be a well know name, or an ex Charlton player.
Darren Moore who I actually thought did ok at West Brom. They picked up under him in the Prem and were never going to stay up (10 points from safety when he was appointed in April). Was sacked when West Brom were 4th and Bilic went on to lose in the play offs. I've seen Donny twice and they played nice stuff both times.
Thanks. I reckon Moore would do for me if Bowyer was to go. 👍

As long as he brings back Bogle with him

Highest first touch on football manager 2021, the fact a manager got a team where he didn't even get the top 3 for POTY promoted from league 1 via the playoffs is not enough credit for bowyer to stay.

But what happened after Curbs left was down to the decisions of a clueless, egotistical twat.

It could have gone right with a decent managerial appointment, without the structure that Murray put in place at the time (then later dropped)

I think our next manager is likely to be someone we may have heard of that is perhaps up & coming from league one or two.  For me, we’re not done with Bowyer yet and I still think he deserves to be given a run at next season.  The football has been poor this season, no argument.  However, I would say I’ve seen enough in his time here to warrant trusting him that he can turn it round.

I know he bought the current crop of players in, I know he’s chopping and changing line ups and formations, but I genuinely believe he’s got a very mediocre bunch to pick from, and we’re just not very good.

try to finish as well as possible this season, but don’t renew most of the squad’s contracts and rip it up completely in the summer, similar to Powell in 2011
I'm with you on keeping Bowyer.
However, he's got to be questioned on buying "mediocre" players.

Bowyer should be sacked because of Joe Aribo’s Football Manager stats is a bit of a stretch.
It was more the video as a whole and the football manager stats putting together the point of how good the team was.

Yeah... Looking at that video... I am reminded just how good Joe was. He'd go missing for large parts of matches, but there's a lesson there about creative players. They can just pop up and bag an assist or goal out of nowhere.

Back then we had a decent GK in Phillips

A very decent championship quality defence Dijksteel, Bauer, Sarr, Purrington (Ok League 1 that last one)

A very decent Midfield (Aribo, Cullen, Bielik - With Williams, Pratley, Morgan & Reeves involved)

A very decent strike partnership too (Taylor and Grant, sure Grant was replaced with Parker, let's not forget Vetokele also started getting some form back that season too).

We probably should have done better in our last league one campaign really, but I certainly didn't complain then.
  • If u take our best XI from that season only 1 is still in league 1

“We were doing some shape in training on Thursday and he [Gilbey] just felt it,” said Bowyer.

Shape training. What's that if not tactics.
  • FFS - How many times have I got to explain to you midfield guys ?
trapezoid is a quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides  while a rhombus must have two pairs of parallel sides

How hard is it for you keep to the shape I ask for during a game!!!

Either that, or Bowyer really does treat them like babies!!
"Put the SPHERE into the bloody RECTANGLE!"

Apologies if this was posted elsewhere.
Interesting is the poll, 400 votes 83% support Bowyer, I’m not sure judging by this thread what the real numbers are.

I think a lot of that has to do with the salary cap and the constraints he was working under ahead of TS’ arrival.  He also only had a month to get the team together once TS took over officially, and then the Jan window (still with salary cap) which is notoriously hard to get real quality in.  All in all I think he gets another proper shot, but yes, if we are treading water again after the first half of next season, serving up similar football to this, then his time is probably at an end

I believe the big sign will be who he keeps going into next season.  You don’t get promoted with the likes of Pratley and JFC.  Pratley was kept largely out the team by Bielik and Cullen 2 years ago, and became more relevant given how light we are on numbers last season.  He’s a good professional but he’s not the sort of player we need to see playing every week if we’re gonna get out the division.  Same for JFC.  I know he was injured during our promotion season, but he’s not getting in ahead of Aribo.  The clear out is key in the summer
  • Purely theoretically/hypothetically but I wonder if the lack of a stand out option as a replacement is currently why TS is keeping his powder dry re: the manager's security.

He's not said much either way, we do have him saying he's pleased with the attacking options but not much more. Perhaps he's willing to search and wait for someone he thinks will be a genuine long term improvement, and is looking further ahead than this season.

Like I said, this is guesswork on my part but potentially does seem to fit with his model of running the club - rebuilding it into his own, with his chosen staff all fitting his own vision. Much more speculatively, perhaps if true Bowyer knows/suspects as much and this is contributory to his more resigned air in recent weeks - he knows he's on borrowed time?

So why does he keep playing Pratley then? He's signed 5 CM's since the summer alone. I see people keep going on about having a few weeks to build a squad but a lot of the players were targeted longer than that and they've either been shit or Bowyer can't get the best out of them.
  • Flipping this point of view imagine if we did get promoted this year? We'd need a squad over haul again in a much tougher league. This squad would be absolutely torn apart in the championship

    100% agree with this

If there’s someone out there who fits this mould then I can get behind them replacing Bowyer now. But id much rather we give bowyer the Summer window if the alternative is appointing some other league one manager .

I don't really see why anyone expects anything different from Paul Cook or the Cowleys. Cook has one promotion from League 1, the Cowleys have 0 and did a poor job at managing Huddersfield.
Didn't do a terrible job when they were smashing us to bits

Kept them up? Not a poor job given he wasn't given a full season

Highest first touch on football manager 2021,
    Hi Mr Driesen.
  • The Cowleys achieved 18th place with Huddersfield last season

Currently Huddersfield are in 18th place in the Championship!
