Take that all day long.
Although our finishing was like the players were wearing banana-boots, at least we created the opportunities.
Some good displays from some unexpected quarters today too.
All in all a much more positive performance. COYR.1 -
Albie's first yellow was probably 50/50, the second was probably right.
Game as a whole was shockingly bad and our finishing was dreadful. If Aneke isn't careful he'll waste his gp90.
Schwartz looked proper up for it, shame he caught his foot and tripped for the shot. His block was unreal.
All in all its a win and a clean sheet, stopping two rots at once, or at least delaying them.5 -
Great result, should have been more against a woeful side. Onto Tuesday now3

Bogle’s best twenty minutes of the season, despite the miss. Everyone put in a shift. Deserved that result.29

You have a bad memory, Chuks wasn't as sharp today but he has 8 goals.7 -
Have we suddenly become a dirty team? Was it a deserved red?
Only downer now is that Pearce and Pratley will both be available!
Hopefully, only Prats comes in, in his rightful position, whaddya think?0 -

To look at it another way though, we didn’t need the goal but we did need him to hold the ball, drive their defenders back and work the ball into the corner when he could. Without that they would have had more momentum to build chances and score. We needed his work rate more than we needed his goal today and he providedjacob_CAFC said:
That miss at the end doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things as we won but imagine the reaction if they got an equaliser. Should have finished it.Charwill said:bogle really put a shift in for 25 mins A forward he is not but great effort from him6 -
Feels like weight even off our own shoulders with a win today
Much better this afternoon, just organised from the very beginning with the scratch defence doing really well. Difference though was a comment I made from Accrington and Rochdale games where we got bodies in the way of balls again, players were brave and didnt worry if they got hurt so naturally there was no way through again
As a result the defence being solid meant we had a base to build from and so attack
Unfortunately it wasnt all that straightforward, Bristol Rovers had their opportunities so we still need to improve in a lot of aspects of our game... One defeat didnt mean we were out of Play-Off contention, the reverse now happens, one win doesnt instantly make us Play-Off winners!!
Bloody typical though, we go from being toothless in defence and ruthless in attack to the complete reverse though!!
Nice to see a lot of players out there today who actually put a shift in them, after Accrington Bowyer was right, the players would be liars if most of them were happy with their game - In honesty I dont think there was a player out there who could say they were unhappy with their performance with even Alex Gilbey and Omar Bogle showing they can do a lot more than what they've been showing.
As I said at HT, players like that needed to see the first half performance and needed the wake up call that they themselves cant be passengers this season if we want to get somewhere and for me they created a benchmark for improvement; Bogle most of all10 -

Lovely to see Steve Brown getting tense over the end of the game.

And Washington who converts just under 1 in 3 shots.maddferrett said:

Steve Brown talks a lot of sense, there is no need to even make that challenge to get sent off. Poor judgement from the young lad

This 4-4-2 works and I hope we stick with it. We move up the pitch easily and the link play and passing can be nice to watch. It makes such a difference after the weeks of turgid rubbish. We will have to see what it looks like with less mobile CMs (Watson & Pratley).
Crazy game. It was a comedy of errors in front of goal, including the one we scored.
JFC and Morgan battled hard, won tackles and second balls all game. Morgan showed a new aggressive streak (which eventually got him sent off) and JFC was just class.
They couldn't cope with our left side and I only wish we got the ball to Millar more, they couldn't get near him.
Looks like we've turned the corner!7 -
I thought we played well - we looked organised and a ‘team’ playing for each other - yes some bad misses, but clean sheet away from home and a win - can’t argue with that - we were much better than recent performances - whilst he blocked Gunter’s shot, I think Ronnie looks a class player - when he fully fit, he will be too good for League 1
Only worry is these bloody red cards - we need to nip these in the bud
Anyway - a Charlton - rejoice !!!3 -

442 definitely the way to go for us. Hopefully we stick with it now.7

Oshilaja has to be ahead of Pearce in the pecking order now.45

Well done0

Credit to bows for not bringing on 3 defenders when we went 1 up.23

After today's result, at least one more.ElfsborgAddick said:I wonder how many more games Bowyer has got left before Sandgaard pulls the trigger.3 -
Oshilaja was outstanding today. Gunter not a CB, but clean sheet in spite of that.5

Good performance and on another day we score a lot more.JFC and Deji the stand out performers for me.Thought Bogle actually did alright when he came on, would’ve done him a world of good if he’d scored the 1 on 1
Bristol Rovers were quite poor. Big test on Tuesday.5 -
So glad just to see and feel us win.
We are learning more about key players in positions now Well done to Bogle for grafting. Schwartz looks a proper footballer and was unlucky with a slip for a chance he used to take for fun.
Lets play players on merit and not because we have our favourites. Osh showed why a CB should be starting ahead of CM at the back. JFC benefitting from a run, and not being rotated.
Well done to all.2 -
The right team, the right subs. If we didn't win that not even I could blame Bowyer.
Pratley and Pearce in for Matthews and Morgan on Tuesday and make everyone earn their place.
Evolution not revolution for the rest of the season. This squad is good enough for the player offs as a minimum.

Really important win and fantastic to get a clean sheet, Oshilaja was excellent from start to finish.
Come on, he wasn’t bad but he wasn’t “really good”.Laddick01 said:Bogle was actually really good. Wanted him to finish that 1on1
Schwartz a bit unlucky but I’m not worried about him. Had shown enough already, think he’ll be very good this season.
Finally Deji at CB. Amazing how that gets us a clean sheet.0 -
Let us not get to carried away, We only just beat a poor team. We allowed them to many chances to score and better teams will take those and beat us. So lets be thankful for the 3pts. Play like that against Peterborough and it will be 3 or 4 nil to them.2
