Though not spectacular, and will be over shadowed by other in midfield, I feel like Williams has really kept things ticking the last couple of games. He is a very effective outlet, and with a consistent run of games and front 2 I think we will see him get more assists.
This is the best I have felt since Wimbledon. The midfield looked sharper and faster and more hungry for the first time in a long time for the whole game. Jake and Albie were great and Lee was right to Stress that albie is improving his fighting mentality going in strong with his tackling; Sometimes that does not pay off but still worth doing. I have been a strong critic of Gilbey and Bogle but they did very well coming on as substitutes both of them. It’s the first time in a long time the 11 sent out to do a job all performed. Well done Charlton

I think a lot of what he does goes unnoticed but you are right, he keeps things ticking.
”We was good start to finish. Very professional and solid. Everyone put in a good shift.” ”Ultra picky we should have scored more” ”I’m really happy with clean sheet. Whole back 4 were solid and very strong” ”Fair play to Deji, he’s had to wait, and he was excellent on and off the ball. Looked physical and strong in the air” ”Jake is getting better and better. He’s doing really well. Driving us in the middle of park”
Continued:
(About Albie) “He’s a 21 year old kid learning the game. Big learning curve today. You can’t go in foot raised when already on a yellow. But pleased he’s trying to compete and fight. He just went a little over the top today” “Told the boys don’t get carried away. Big recovery and get ready for Tuesday.” ”Over the moon we’re in 6th”
That's what I want to hear from a manager.
It’s almost as if someone has had a word in his ear.
Overall I thought it was a much better performance by us, the players knew their roles and there seemed to be a game plan. I was a bit disappointed in Rovers though, they didn't really have a go until 1-0 down and I think they were the right sort of opposition for us as quite a "nice" team
On Tuesday JFC should be the 1st name on the teamsheet, and Deji second. Both were excellent, Deji's mobility was really important today, it's that pace which enabled him to make crucial blocks
Albie's sending off thankfully didn't cost us the game, as otherwise he was really good, tenacious defending along with creative passing. I was more frustrated with the first booking, it's not the first soft pull back he's been booked for, and it's putting you on a knife-edge.
Echo what most others have said. We deserved the win and credit to the players and Bowyer. He picked square pegs in square holes and when I saw Gilbey wasn’t starting, I felt that was a good statement. That’s no disrespect to Gilbey, but his form hasn’t been good, and I liked the statement that Bowyer recognised this and went with Williams.
Everyone played well, but JFC MoM for me. I’ve given him a bit of criticism on here and I still think he flatters to deceive sometimes, but he was excellent today. Came short, tried to get things moving and was probing. Oshilaja did well, and even when we brought the subs on I felt the team still had a good shape.
I pray this is the little base we need to kick on now.
the other thing I’ll say is I think Bowyer has perhaps mellowed a bit in the last 2 weeks. He seemed calmer in the pre match interview and was giving Bogle encouragement when he was chasing down balls
You can turn things round if you change your behaviours. This game was the first for a while I felt the tactics were right and his post match comments seem to be more about praising players than digging them out although of course that is tested more when we lose.
Schwartz did little today but early days yet, so not many minutes under his belt, I'm sure he will show us more as time goes by.
It was Schwartz's ball to send away Bogle for the one-on-one. If Bogle scores, which he should, it's an assist for Ronnie.
Bogle misses and nobody notices/remembers Schwarz's contribution.
Against Rochdale, it was Schwarz's incisive pass to Gunter, who crossed for our 3rd goal. Schwarz makes the defence splitting 'assist the assist' pass ...... like Shinnie is noted for.
I thought us fans would have learnt from last (and this) season in seeing little relevance writing down the "team in a few weeks when everybody is back."
It very rarely works like that. Your assumption is that there will be no injuries accrued, but just returning players. Nicely poetic ;-)
Osh and Fam could be a possibility next week Pratley and JFC (with Shinnie somewhere in there too)
The last 2 games could have only made Aneke fitter. Start Bogle and Schwartz on Tuesday perhaps. Washington is quite a tricky player to fit in for me. Would really like to see a bit more aggression and in-your-face play from him.
Oh what joy to see the team sheet and you think, yes that looks right. Oh what joy when they lined up and you think, yes that looks right, everyone playing in their correct positions, (apart from Gunter who had to cover at CH or play the very inexperienced Barker).
So guess what, the game starts and we look like a football team again and not a bunch of strangers, who haven't a clue what to do and as a consequence not one player had a bad game.
JFC was MOM and is looking like a player, now he is getting a run in the team, without all the chopping and changing.
Oshilaja is playing really well, now Bowyer has decided to play a CH at CH.
Matthews unsurprisingly looked really decent at RB and Maatsen looked more comfortable at LB.
All the players did well and I'd like to thank whoever it was that gave Bowyer's head a wobble and put it back in the correct place.

But nobody remembers that either!
God knows what happened when he tripped over but Gunter's effort (?) he was probably just guilty of being too eager in following the shot in - Statuesque has been a problem at times for our Strikers (especially the spilled shot at Gillingham) so can laugh but cant fault his desire
Washington probably should be an option off the bench from here on in. Then it is up to him to force his way into the team through performance levels. I have felt for a while that he doesn't pose enough questions of defenders.
Job done. Bowyer got it right today. Foster-Caskey was outstanding as was Morgan. Just when they were pleased to see the back of Chuks, on comes Bogle who I thought showed his potential. Gunter was back to his best. Matthews steady and I think he’s our best right back. At last, we have a winger. Onto Tuesday ... BIG game

He had a great game today, not just as an outlet but defensively too. He put in a number of good challenges and shepherded their players out wide really well, that's not something we've seen from him too often but I like it

Is it possible that some are so desperate for him to do well that they see it even when it's not really there?

Oh I don't know. I think he did play well, but certainly not to the level the others were today.
It’s funny that JFC seems to be carving out a niche as a scorer of incredibly crap goals that shouldn’t go in. A free kick that had no business going in against Wigan, a deflected nothing against Rochdale, a goal that basically hit him off a keeper mess against Wimbledon and a direct corner against Bristol Rovers. You can see why he likes to just shoot from wherever can’t you
I think Deji has made it very hard for LB to leave him out of the starting line up with his performances since he came back into the team. We all know he has a mistake in him but until he makes it and if he keeps on doing what he is doing if LB drops him he may as well put a transfer request in lol Bogle I thought did really well today and it wouldnt surprise me if he starts on Tuesday with Schwarz.
Good win. We played better than recently. We played better than Rovers. We won and could have won by more. Everyone looked so much more comfortable playing in their preferred position. That boosts confidence which in turn means you can achieve things that you can't when everyone's looking over their shoulder wondering if they're up to the task they've been asked to do.
One thing I would take issue with is Bowyer's comment about Millar. I don't think that's a sign of being 'young and innocent', I think that's a sign of being fundamentally honest. Good on him. Who wants to play with someone who tries to take credit for team-mate's goals? It's a team game, not an individual one. Do your damnedest to get the last touch, but don't claim what isn't yours. That doesn't make you experienced, that doesn't make you mature and that doesn't make you a better footballer; that makes you an arse hole.

NB I aged at least a year in the final 20 mins.
A well deserved win and well done Lee & the boys.
