There must have been dozens of really crap ones over the years. I was at very few of the ones mentioned above - I stopped going regularly in 1993....
But, in more recent times - Boxing Day 1998 v Wimbledon at Selhurst. Lost 2-1.
I recall we were pretty shit, I was sitting in shit seats at the front of the shitty Halfhour Wait stand and it rained. Everytime they got a corner (and they seemed to get a lot) we got blasted with "who let the dogs out...".
Edit - a contender for the "you know you're getting old" thread, when you refer to a game that was 22 years ago as "more recent times"...
Dagenham away in the cup, 0-0 and absolutely freezing. Then we scored in the first couple of mins of extra time. Why couldn't they have scored a few mins earlier and put us out of our misery.
3-0 loss at Stockport. Remember several supporters having an argument with Rufus, telling him how crap he was, as he didn't pick up their player from a throw in, and they scored. I remember Rufus getting really angry and shouting abuse back at the fans
And I think an honourable mention to the 5-0 tonking at West Ham on Boxing Day 2000
Oh boy, yes. I hadn't planned on going but my wife's firm had a box at West Ham and I was told that her boss, a Hammers fan, was sorting out a ticket for me. I thought I was going on some sort of corporate jolly up, but instead of that I was was given a single ticket amongst all the Hammers in the Green Street Stand. I don't think the box was full, he just didn't want to socialise with a Charlton fan. Before the match I'd planned to meet up in some East Ham pub with an old mate who was a season ticket holder at Upton Park, after an uncomfortable half hour in a pub full of Bubbles-singing Eastenders I got a text from him saying that something had happened to his son and he couldn't make it. I followed the crowd to the ground on my own.
Five times I had to get to my feet that afternoon and give enough polite applause not to cause offence to the locals. I was rumbled pretty early on for my half-hearted, sad-faced clapping. To be fair though, those sitting around me were alright about it. My misery didn't end at the final whistle though. Anyone who's ever got a train from Barking to Southend on a Saturday evening will know that they are all absolutely crawling with Irons. I had to endure the whole journey home with chirpy Hammers, laughing and asking if Charlton were always that bad.

My Dad and drove from Dartford to Upminster and got tube to the ground that day - journey back was bloody awful surrounded by gobshite Hammers - Dad refused to take his Charlton hat and scarf off, which made us a target for their piss taking
I think its got to be Blackpool when we lost 4-1 or 5-1, it was before they went up to the Premier league so the stand we were in was scaffolding, it rained for the whole game & was absolutely freezing with howling winds coming in from the sea. Two nights on the lash up there made up for the crap result though
The 1-1 draw with Yeovil for me. Open end behind the goal with torrential rain and the wind in our faces. In fact the wind was so strong we had a goal kick and it went off for a corner to them! Player sent off in the first half and a goal down so decided to leave at half time and I was still wet by the time we got back to London!
I like how that game has appeared in both the worst away game and favourite away game threads.
Goes to show how many different aspects can make an away day good or bad.
Sheffield United FA Cup QF is the only one that still annoys me. Look at the quarter finals this season and it's 7 PL teams and a top championship team. Such a great opportunity against a league 1 team to get to Wembley that year and it just totally passed us by. Didn't get to the ground until 5 mins before KO either and finding out we'd have played Hull in the semis was even more frustrating.
Millwall last season. Seen a couple of other losses at Millwall where I enjoyed parts but last seasons was totally shit.
Colchester cup game, only time left with a good 5-10 mins to go. Dagenham 2011 and Shrewsbury playoff stand out too

I was at that game and whilst it felt like the most horrendous experience at the time - it’s still by far one of the most memorable/amusing away days to look back on with hindsight
Definitely one of those “I was there”, battle scar occasions
At villa park lost11-1 willy Duff the goalie went of with broken fingers came back on as outside left and was our best player. I forget the date but late 1950/early 1960.
5-3 against Blackpool. A depressing away day with the wind blowing a gale and sat on exposed wooden benches. I remember our fans abusing Paul Dickov and we were literally on top of the players.

You can tell we’re all enjoying ourselves that day 😀
Reading pre-season friendly back in 70's ... trouble with locals from the moment our train arrived ... running fights in the street, at least 20% of us never even made it to the ground due to being stopped by the police
Yep. We went by train but were put on the coach by the OB after for our own protection. I think the crowd was only about 1400.
I'll make a vote for my Dad, Northwich Victoria 1 - Charlton Athletic 0. It wasn't even a hammering or anything we were just totally shit and lost to a late goal I think, I was bored stiff but my dad was raging for some reason. I actually thought my Dad was going to leave me behind after the game he stormed off to the car so fast, he didn't say a word the whole way home which thankfully was only 40 minutes away.
As I have been "lucky" enough to have been abroad for all the shit years since the Premier League days, I have been fortunate to miss all of the nightmares since then that you poor buggers have suffered. I share the pain of @Simonsen and WBA in the cup. There are three games against the scum that spring to mind. 3-1 at the old dump. In the bar after when Sheringham (knowing I am an Addick) taps me on the shoulder and asks if I want to touch the hat-trick ball. Same venue - two nil up with the game in the bag, and we manage a 2-2. But the worst - the new dump in '94 when we lost to an injury time goal.
Oh - and honourable mention to Plough Lane, Boxing Day 1989, miserable 3-1 defeat. So bad I don't even recall the one we scored.
I was at the 5-3 match at Blackpool, but funnily I still enjoyed it despite the exposed decrepit temporary stand and the howling gale, as I spent it chatting to a couple of people I met there
Bolton away lost 5-0 mid 70's Hull away lost 6-0 left after half hour of the game Scumwall last season in championship - you just knew that they were going to score from the corner right at the end Was at Fulham in 72 last game of season when on the same day we lost 5-0 up at Blackpool to be relegated We only needed a draw or for Fulham to lose to Sunderland They drew we went down - a bit like our 4-0 defeat to Leeds and Barnsley somehow beating Brentford away with a late winner last game of the season

That Plough Lane defeat was a BAD one. We were absolutely awful that day.

a bit late and we were already behind, and it just got worse, terrible day

Plenty of others...
Also Blackpool away not long before Robinson left was thoroughly shit whilst I think about it.
The game played on a beach
Still makes me angry
