Genuine question....why is Laudrup considered a strong contender???

Is it purely based on the Danish connection & people putting 2+2 together or is there more to it than that??
Reckon its because loads of idiots are betting on Laudrup because of the Danish connection

Bookies are then adjusting the odds accordingly

There are only three people (Sandgaard, Roddy, Gallen) who know the direction we'll go in and unless one of the last two starts blabbing, and I'd really hope they wouldnt, we wont have a scooby doo who the next boss is until we see them walking into the Valley
Oi - I backed him yesterday....
    Exhibit A... ;)
    Welcome back.

One of Charlton Life's most prolific posters seemed to be noticeable by his absence during yesterday's fun and games.

ForeverAddickted was busy running through his plans for next season with Roddy and TS, and what colour Range Rover he wants

I have already put Bowen down as my preference . He has both top level experience and interestingly is both an outsider and someone with a bona fide Charlton connection .

I am enjoying Curbs on Charlton Player but don't want him to make a comeback . He had his time and it was excellent but we cannot turn the clock back and he has been away too long . I also wonder whether he fancies a comeback . I suspect he enjoys his elder statesman role .

Of the others  I like the look of Michael Beale's CV and he seems to be making a bid for the job on twitter . With a background at Chelsea and Liverpool he should be able to get decent loans . However , similar to Johnnie Jackson he would probably need an experienced number 2 . I remember that Mike Bailey had Benny Fenton the ex Millwall boss in the 1980/81 promotion season  as his number 2 . I am sure that Benny had a key role in our success and Bailey's development . Is there a similar former manager who would similarly be happy to be an Assistant to an up and coming coach?

Eddie Howe and Chris Wilder are unrealistic but I wouldn't rule out Kenny Jackett . It hasn't worked out for him at Portsmouth but he did take Swansea , Millwall and Wolves up from this level and Pompey have regularly made the playoffs . The ex Millwall tag doesn't bother me . What has happened in football that supporters don't accept managers and players with connections with rival clubs ? You can't get any more archetypal Millwall than Harry Cripps . Arry Boy was loved by our fans and played a crucial role in our 1974/75 promotion team  . Also remember that SCP was a Palace player .

Of the others I am unconvinced about Cowleys and want to rule out the likes of Pulis .

I don't disagree with any of that but what's the difference between Jackett and the likes of Pulis?
Fair challenge . Jackett seems to be a L1 promotion expert . I rated him highly at Millwall and felt he deserved a bigger job which he got with Wolves . I think given the right backing he could take us up to and become competitive in the Championship .

Pulis is a manager who operates at a higher level and I doubt that he has the desire needed to dip into L1 . I would put Monk in the same boat .
I think Jackett looks a bit stale now. He's been an excellent manager at this level, but Pompey seem to have stagnated in the last couple of years

Not finished lower than 8th in the last five seasons, if that is stale I would settle for it.

Worse than I thought. Four years in charge of a big club like Portsmouth and still in league 1.

Re Bowen, i can't see anything other than a mediocre season with Reading. Or am i missing something?
Ex player, but I agree, his stock has dropped from working with Hughes for so long.

Reading were in relegation trouble when he took over .

He got them to a comfortable midtable position .

Looks like Jacket did a great job at Millwall but stayed too many years and went a bit stale in his last season, same at Portsmouth

Why is Nigel Adkins never mentioned these days? Steered Scunny to promotion, then Southampton from League One to the Prem. He's a 'thinker' - wears serious spectacles - which means he might not suit us...

Yeah, coming in towards end of the week I believe.

As an aside that made me laugh is that there is a large Range Rover sat in the managers spot at Sparrows Lane currently haha

Exactly where I saw them - they were in the queue behind Laudrup and Cowley. Russell Slade was the checkout bird.

I'll donate £20 to the upbeats if the new man is Danish or American or is unproven in English Football (Less than the one promotion from L1 to Champ/ Champ to Prem)
I'll also donate £20 to the upbeats if the above happens,......

Wilder was moaning about everything down South being expensive, while Howe was upset there wasn't a local Waitrose

Comments from Curbs backing Johnnie were interesting ... if the next couple of results go well, I am coming round to backing Johnnie for the job too.

If JJ is the man, then I am sure he would be happy to use Curbs in some way.

I'm definitely getting that too .... fine with me
  • Really don't want JJ, thats the appointment we would have ended up with without a good owner, unproven and we will end up in the same situation we did with bowyer.

Just find this attitude a bit off, Curbs gave a pretty compelling reason for him to get it. Don’t think he will, but don’t like the guilty by association stuff I’ve seen

The only ‘decision’ on the playing side we’ve seen from Thomas is the signing of Ronnie S. A Danish coach may well be a good choice. Sounds like Thomas is already speaking to someone. Hopefully he takes plenty of advice before appointing.
