I don't mind the laughing, but people calling her a C and a slut on twitter is a bit much.
Christ really?  Any reaction but sympathy is bizarre - she's not some pissed up opposition fan giving it large beforehand, she's a kid.

Watched the game (at home) with my own daughter who is probably a couple of years younger, and pretty obvious the shoe could have been on the other foot.
Italians laughed at crying Germans in 2006, Germans laughed at crying Brazilians in 2014. We’re allowed to get a smidge of enjoyment out of this one.

The comments from a couple of teenage wrong’uns on Twitter are clearly well over the line and the kids involved should be getting a doorstep visit from the local police IMO.

I logged off at about 4 yesterday.  I have just read all the comments since, some outstanding mental gymnastics from some, back peddling and admittedly some admitting they were wrong.

Southgate got that spot on, apart from the first 10 minutes England were brilliant.  The way we controlled the tempo from the back and only went forward when the Germans over committed.  Outstanding.

Not only 4 clean sheets but apart from Muller's I don't think we have conceded a proper chance in 4 games.

I think some people need to get their history books out and look how other teams have won tournaments in the past.  Because with one or two standout exceptions it's been by playing like we are.  Brazil in 1970 was over 50 years ago and I don't think there has been anything like it since?

Back to 433 in Rome, I would imagine and even after last night Southgate will get pelters for his selection.  I fancy he will get it spot on, again.
I can only really think of Spain in Euro 2012. They beat France and obviously Italy in the final 4-0, but still took them a pen shootout to get past Portugal.

I genuinely think you have to be old enough to remember Italia 90 to truly appreciate last night. You youngsters enjoy the victory but us veterans lived the pain.

    I won't disagree. I'll add 1970 as well because I'm really old!

    Lots of ghosts exorcised yesterday.
With you on that one, stood absolutely dumbfounded outside my house when we lost that.Wonder what Macron and Merkel are thinking about Plague Island and little Englanders this morning.
Bizarre comment. After all, it's not as if the UK have put France or Germany on the green list.

How did so many German fans attend the match. Do they live in the UK?
  • Yes, Greenhithe - Pandora's box is a very apt analogy.

Social media just seems like a tool to enable humans to wage war on each other on a personal level, the magnitude of which was not possible before.

If this is progress, stop the ride - I want to get off.

I have to be honest and say I couldn't see that first goal coming. It felt like a 50/50 game, but we are due one of those against them. There is no point criticising Southgate, he isn't going to change but I would argue he got away with it a bit yesterday. Fortunately Germany are not that good, but we can expect to face a team that isn't that good all the way to the final now. I think the fans calling for Grealish to start can point to the fact that we looked far more dangerous when he came on! I do hope Southgate can see it is worth starting him.
I think Southgate can rather more justifiably point to the fact that bringing him on when he did was a planned tactical move that changed the game in our favour and probably worth repeating in tight games.
Of course he can, because we won.

Clearly those calling a 10-year-old girl, or however old she is, a "N*zi sl*t" are a special kind of vermin. But who knows if they were teenagers or not?

The laughing at a child crying was not reserved for them though. It was in a lot of pubs around the country, not just twitter. There's a huge gulf between getting a smidge of enjoyment - come on, we all thoroughly enjoyed that to the fullest - and that sort of obnoxious behaviour. Some people are just unbearable when they win.

Absolutely steaming. Great night down the Anglesey Arms in Woolwich.

For those of you who were determined to criticise England/Southgate at every move, hope you’re feeling as embarrassed as you should be.

I think people cheering and abusing the little girl crying shows the nasty side of our country that many detest.
Again, only thing I’ve seen of that is on the shitty side of Twitter, mostly dopey teenagers. The commentator even said we don’t want to see that.
No-one was abusing a little girl, were they? If so, where? On Twitter or at the stadium? What did they say?

Kids crying is never a good look. A grown man crying would have been funny.

    And fair game too.
  • The more I think about it the more I think Southgates decision to keep Kane on the pitch could be the pivotal moment for us in this tournament.
Plenty of people,me included thought he just wasn't doing it and quite frankly having a mare. When he went down clutching his thigh it looked like a cry for help to me and he wanted out.
As he walked back and gave GS the thumbs up I thought he lacked the balls to take him off. But that reassurance from GS seemed to spur Kane on and he was like a different player after.
If you take your captain and main goal threat off, a sense of panic could well have filtered it's way through the side.
We could well be out today.

Who knows how Kane will be from now on? but it wouldn't surprise me to see him turn the next few games on their heads.
    Here's hoping!
As I said, a pivotal moment for me.
  • Always keep your goals on the pitch!

Is anyone here going to Rome?
It’s too late now -would need to self isolate in Rome for 5 days.
  • Look at our squad depth it's ridiculous. A starting XI made up from the players who didn't start with last night's formation. I couldn't even fit in Rashford or Bellingham!

We certainly have the most depth left in the tournament and if we go all the way that should pay off. Players like Rashford, Foden, Sancho will be fresh in the semis and finals.
In the real world it’s be Bellingham and Henderson in the middle but the point stands. I can’t remember a time when England had this kind of depth. The ability to change it up, rest players, change the system etc. is huge.
  • Dont the yellow cards get wiped now ?
  • He could quite easily rest Rice and Philips for Henderson and Bellingham and it would barely weaken the side. Similarly Mings could come back in for Maguire with significantly weakening the side.

    Nope after the Quarter-Finals
  • Then Southgate should rotate no point in risking suspensions I think we will have enough to beat Ukraine whoever he starts. Denmark however another matter I have a feeling the Eriksen situation has galvanised them and it just might be written in the stars

Would you rotate Maguire for Mings though...

Ukraine should be beatable, but do you really want to risk the defence
