George Dobson - Gone to Wrexham p136, farewell message p142

This don't look good, and certainly a strange move for George, now I don't know his personal life obviously, but he came out with I assume his young child last night, in what looked like a goodbye to The Valley...
Can see him leaving this window, as there is an offer on the table from this Hungarian mob, real shame as Dobson is a real kingpin, but no point hanging onto someone who wants to be elsewhere...0 -

The sale offer is from the Hungarian lot...LargeAddick said:1 -

Maybe me being dense. He’s already signed a pre contract to join them 1st July at which point he leaves on a free or they may choose to buy him this month for a fee. Have I got that right?eastterrace6168 said:

- Despite offers from Charlton, negotiations have dragged on, leading to Dobson agreeing to join Fehérvár on a pre-contract.
- Charlton still have a permanent offer from Fehérvár and may sell Dobson before the winter window closes.
As per Ned Holmes at FLW0 -
But why would they pay a fee when he’s joining them five months later for free, doesn’t make sense.eastterrace6168 said:

And are we just going on what Ned Holmes has said whoever he is?4

Guess it's their choice, have him now or later, agree, a strange arrangement but there you are, so it seems he can go for a fee, probably ridiculously low, or free 1st July...🤷♂️LargeAddick said:

Never trusted FootballLeagueWorld as a source . If this was coming from Cawley or someone like Pete O'Rourke I'd give it credence. Just doesn't make any kind of sense to me.4
-
FLW have absolutely no sources or connections close to clubs and are a clickbait marketing farm which part of a wider conglomerate of shit sports news sites. This may well happen but I would wager that they are absolutely guessing based off a real journalist (Rich Cawley's) insight.2
-
I should imagine that the money on the table the Hungarian mob would be minimal. We are better off keeping hold of him for the relegation battle. No much difference to a loan signing until the end of the season - except he gives a shit. I’d much rather Dobson playing at 25% than Fiorini at 100%!Crusty54 said:

The side after him (Fehervar) have an average league crowd of less than 4k this season, so surely they don't have tons of money.Chunes said:Just can't see it happening unless they've offered him silly money.0 -
Looks like the same story being printed on "Newsnow", quoting Cawley
Charlton Athletic midfielder and club captain George Dobson has been linked with a move to Hungarian giants Fehervar.
It has now been revealed by journalist Richard Cawley of the South London Press that a bid has indeed been made for the 26-year-old and he could well leave the club this January.
So there you are, ready to be told otherwise

Sell him now and take the money..more than enough cover in that position2
-
A bid has indeed been made, it says. That doesn't say it has been accepted1
-
At least we get him until the end of the season. We’re gonna need him.Edit: seen the update. Maybe not.0

NewsNow is a news aggregator which pulls headlines and articles from all over the internet not an independent source, it is likely regurgitating the exact same FLW article. In this case it just links to the Cawley article that says a bit has been made, nothing about it being agreedeastterrace6168 said:Looks like the same story being printed on "Newsnow", quoting CawleyCharlton Athletic midfielder and club captain George Dobson has been linked with a move to Hungarian giants Fehervar.

While quoting Rich Cawley,...anyway, really make of it what you like, bid has been made, whether it is accepted is up for contention, getting bored with it all already!!!...🙄YannTheMann said:

By the way, I never said anything had been agreed, just that an offer was on the table...ok0 -

Hungary has some beautiful countryside. Cost of living about half here. Pro family government policies. His new club is 50m drive from Budapest.WhenIwasLittleBoy said:3 -
They have a Swede and a Danish guy there, at least there would be ease with the language situation.killerandflash said:Dobson choosing to leave, I entirely understand.
Dobson choosing to go to Hungary still feels really random. Apart from anything else, how did he come up on the radar of a Hungarian team anyway? They've got no other English players or ones I recognise have played over here, they don't have a manager or owners with British connections.0 -
Am I correct in believing the Hungarians can be problems for paying wages on time?PragueAddick said:
Agree. The whole thing is bizarre (if true). I don’t think a single English player of any note plays there. I don’t think either that his strengths that we most value in him are ratedkillerandflash said:Dobson choosing to leave, I entirely understand.

anywhere near as important by HU fans. There’s a tradition of playing a
much more technical game there. He won’t be adored, and won’t fit in. I wonder who he and his wife will socialise with. His agent is clearly a **** who could not get Champ interest but wants his payday no matter..1 -
He's Ned Holmes.LargeAddick said:And are we just going on what Ned Holmes has said whoever he is?2 -
Some of you post as if an agent can make a player sign a contract.alburyaddick said:
You can understand it if he was going to France or Spain or Italy or Germany ...........but Hungary - he must be completely off his trolley. You wonder if he's actually been to have a look. Id be amazed if he's not back in the UK within a season. I think its a bonkers move, but his agent will have made a fee so he'll be happyStu_of_Kunming said:
Or maybe he thinks living in another country might actually benefit his family. I certainly do, it’s not that hard to believe.SELR_addicks said:
If he were going to the Championship I'd say fair enough. But Hungary?Stu_of_Kunming said:
Unless Dobson just wants off, of course?SELR_addicks said:Seems like such a backwards step.
We've spent money to sign 2 players that are a sideways move from Dobson anyway.
Yes Bakinson I'm sure looks great as does Coventry, we could have just signed one.
The money on the other could've been spent on wing-backs or a striker rather than a position we were fine for with Dobson.
The relocation and upheaval of his family would eat into any increase in salary he'd be likely to get. So clearly isn't something he'd want to do unless he felt like we were offering way below his value.0 -
Cawley says the Hungarian side are interested.
FLW have gone one further and said a pre-contract has been agreed. If true, and they want him now for whatever reason, it might make sense for them to offer a small amount to us to get an extra six months out of Dobbo.
Either way it does seem an odd agreement so I’m taking it with a pinch of salt, for now.4 -
It's not too rare a deal I don't think, in fact CBTs deal was very similar but with a different structure (if I understand the facts properly)
There's no real difference between CBT being "loaned" to Derby for £300k and leaving on a free to them at the end of the contract (I would assume he's also signed a pre contract?) Vs these guys having a pre contract and then offering a transfer fee before hand to get their man sooner. Both Derby and the Hungarians could just wait 6 months and get them on a free... To be clear I'm not saying we would get anywhere near £300k for Dobson!
If anything it makes more sense to do it this way because I am guessing you could split the transfer fee over the life of the contract for accountancy purposes, vs a loan fee which I assume sits within this seasons accounts.

Dobson should never had told his agent he was hungry for success.11
-
From my understanding, we have gone back with a fresh offer last week. But one thing for sure, he isn’t going this month13
-
Good because we can't afford, right now, to lose him!DubaiCAFC said:From my understanding, we have gone back with a fresh offer last week. But one thing for sure, he isn’t going this month
Funny we've gone back with a new offer though, considering we were told we'd made him a very good "take it or leave it" offer.....5
