Grealish gives it the big one all the time, playing up to the fans and thinking he is Gazza 1990. Comes to the crunch and fucks right off like a fucking coward and let’s Saka step up in his place.
We had a fantastic opportunity and it felt Gareth was slow to react from HT onwards. Mancini definitely out thought Gareth with the changes.
Great pens from the two Harry's but it does make you wonder why Sterling didn't take one but because of social media the racists will have a field night with Saka, Rashford and Sancho's shockers.
Can't we just toss a coin because at least then we have a 50/50 chance.
The sad reality is we’ll struggle to get a run like that again. I know we’re a fantastic side with a manager who really wants it. I just think this was such a class opportunity to break the curse.
it hasn’t happened and im guttted.
I’ll be honest, as much as he’s been slandered during this campaign we missed Foden big time.
Rashford Smashed a pen in against PSG In the last minute, so no surprise he took one.
He had played for 90 minutes in that game.
Not 2.
Southgate and all the coaching staff made the judgement call that the most talented penalty takers with fresh legs were a better bet than the likes of Henderson and Kyle Walker who have absolutely no business taking one.
If you asked any of the staff, I bet they’d tell you they would do exactly the same again.
Raheem Sterling, Luke Shaw, Jack Grealish you should be ashamed.
If that’s not their decision then fair play but sometimes you just have to step up.
England don’t have players willing to step up.
Sterling plays for a team notoriously terrible at scoring penalties and he’s still behind the fucking goalkeeper in the pecking order. If he wanted to take one I wouldn’t have let him near it
Can’t help feel opportunity lost and that the goal so early just didn’t help us. Italy on balance of play the better team. For a couple of our key players it looked one game too many.
You can see why Lyle's simple walk up was so successful. None of this weird jarring movement just bully the keeper to go the wrong way or dive early with your eyes.
Mancini's subs changed the game, Southgate's did not. So much for tactical nous. Italy were the better team and we allowed them to play their game by keeping our attacking players on the bench until it was too late. But Mourinho/Southgate will soldier on I am sure.
Pickford 8.0: good save in the second half, fully did his job in penalties Stones: 5.5: neither good nor bad Maguire 7.0: not good with ball but good defense and made his pen Walker: 6.0: did his job Rice: 8.0: immense Phillips 6.0: did his job mostly Shaw: 8.5 MOM for England Trippier 5.0: barely noticed Kane 6.5: made his pen, was quite physical but got no chances Mount: 5.0 not his best match Sterling 2.5: an embarrassment with his pratfalls

Grealish: 5.5... should have been brought on 20 min earlier Saka: NA: worst player of the match per minute played Rashford NA blew it Henderson NA stunk Sancho NA should not have been brought on
Southgate: 3.5 bad time for his worst night as manager in this tourney Ref: 7.0 actually glad he let em play and did not fall for all the pratfalls.
We couldn’t go into pens with Walker and Henderson amongst the takers. If he hadn’t put Rashford and Sancho on and Henderson or Walker or Shaw took a pen and missed Southgate would have got criticism for not putting regular takers on.
A hindsight call as always. It has been widely reported that the squad have practised pens regularly. It didn’t happen today but I think we were outplayed and a little out thought throughout the game.

Sometimes sh*t happens. Tonight it did.
It wasn't a bad judgement call in itself. With the benefit of hindsight, they probably could have done with 10 minutes and could have been part of us trying to win it in extra time as well as getting a feel for things. We scored early and the 5 at the back that was supposed to change to a 3, stayed as a 5 when we had something to hold on to.
We probably scored too early and it is fine margins. We need to look at this as a breakthrough and hopefully can target the World Cup but I really wish we could be a bit more offensive minded. Maybe we will be.

Very good first half. Very poor second half. I reckon they were told to keep it tight but then sank into a static, defensive mindset. Italy then took us apart for 35 minutes. Beyond gutted at losng on penalties but can’t really argue that it wasn’t deserved by Italy overall. Our lads had a fine tournament. They have to continue to improve but, if they do, we’ll have a decent chance of winning a World Cup or Euros with the nucleus of this young side.

I think England supporters should take heart from this tournament and seek to build on it.
The team, including management, will be better for tonight.
Kudos to those with the courage to attempt to win it with the penalties.
Didn't have an issue with Rashford, made sense, but Sancho and Saka, it's a lot of pressure on young guys who don't normally take them.

make Foden a centrepiece of out WC side.
Pep loves him. He’s class. We need to find a way to
use him.
Taking a cold penalty with huge amounts of pressure when you've touched the ball maybe twice in 2 hours, isn't the best idea in the world.
Did well first half, they changed things, we didn't react.
