1) Football’s a strange business, it’s difficult to compare it to anything else. Would I care if someone in my job leaked something confidential about my role? Not really, but that doesn’t mean Adkins wouldn’t care - so I take your point.cabbles said:Chris_from_Sidcup said:For those moaning about the leaking of lineups, we're playing Steve Evans' Gillingham, not some tactical mastermind, i doubt it will make a blind bit of difference.
Southgate's England teams were leaked by our press a day before every single Euro match and i'm quite sure it had no effect on the outcomes at all.
These miss the point. Regardless of what you think of Adkins, how would you like it if it was someone in your place of work leaking confidential stuff relating to your role? Of course, it’s only Gillingham and I doubt very much them knowing our team will do much to alter the result (it may help Gillingham though). As for transfers, you’re conflating two separate issues. Leaks and insights into possible players coming in/out is very much part of the business of transfers. Letting the public know of likely team line ups 24 hours ahead of a game is taking the piss with an obligation/professional duty of care whoever is in the know signs up for, when they are employed by Charlton. Doesn’t sit right with me personallyElliotCAFC said:

You and @VFR4life could fairly be accused of being traitors to the club then, couldn't you?I confirmed I’d heard exactly the same thing about the team playing against Gillingham. It’s not from a secret inside source, I heard it from a plasterer! He certainly doesn’t have any inside info, for all I know he read it on here. It’s interesting to see the 180 flip regarding leaks. It was only a couple of weeks ago most were on their knees begging for transfer leaks from @VFR4life. I don’t recall any concern about it back then?If you encouraged transfer leaks but don’t want to hear about team sheets, it would unbecoming to take the moral high ground.2) I think you’re conflating rumours with leaks. One is hearsay, the other is private information being distributed without permission. That’s where it gets tricky, “ITK’s” seem to be idolised on this forum, we’ve even got posters tracking their reliability. The problem is, it’s not clear what is and isn’t acceptable for an ITK to dish out. Genuinely, why is it okay to leak transfer dealings but not okay to leak a team sheet, or dressing room feuds, or boardroom disputes? Leaks can jeopardise transfers happening, which in turn could have a significant impact on people’s livelihoods. I think it’s disingenuous to neglect that possible reality because we get a dopamine hit every time more transfer news comes to light.I’m not arguing for either side, it’s just a little strange to demonise an ITK for doing the exact same thing we were praising them for doing not long ago.0 -
That's a good point.ParkinsonOut said:IF Stockley is dropped tonight, we’ll miss his presence in defence heading away the Gills corners 🤦🏻♀️
For all his plus points MacGillivray doesn't like to claim high balls floated into the box.
He seems to be from the Jeff Wood school of "I'll play statues whilst you lot head it away".
Let's hope young Davison is up to the task0 -
On route. Feeling ominous, could be a pivotal evening

I think we'll draw this 1-1.0

Not knocking anyone for releasing the information but if someone comes on here and say..."yes, that's what I've heard too".....and then we find out that their "confirmation" came from a plasterer then I'm sorry I don't give that person much credibility......unless the plasterer had just come from Sparrows Lane after finishing the dressing rooms there.ElliotCAFC said:

Think Adkins has to decide between embracing a bit of Stockley ball like he did when he first came in last season.
A slight 442/ 433 with Washington playing closer to Stockley.

Stockley
Not pretty but we need points.
Or, persist with what we guess is a technical, build up passing game and select the players that fit that - even if that means sacrificing a more solid midfield and playing unfancied players.

To be fair "It’s the correct team sheet. That’s what will start tomorrow." is a little different from "I've heard the same from my plasterer" 🤣Croydon said:

Any 4 attacking players is suicidal with our current midfield. As would go as far as saying we can probably only currently afford two.Southbank said:

@th0rryy Great effort mate with your analysis from page 5 of this thread.
Always impressed when folk go to great trouble to explain what they like and don't like and what their preferred line up is or formation.
My pre season fear was the isolation of Stockley. Washington playing nearer but not static and given licence to go either side will help. Davison could be the wildcard that does well in certain games this season.
We need players to find some pride and form before we hit rock bottom.1 -

Don't really have a great deal of choice given the midfield options!0 -
Please god not a draw, we need closure. Either we get pumped and he’s gone or we dish out an unexpected win and good performance and we finally begin our season, not in between please, too stressful.0

My prediction: We'll play shite (I can't remember the last time we played well at Gillingham, or indeed the last time we played well, full-stop). CM will make a number of good saves and Gills will miss a couple of sitters. Eventually we'll concede a scruffy one, but will get a late, soft penalty to rescue a point. No one will be convinced but Adkins will live to fight another day.

To be fair, in my experience of 30+ years of watching this shite, Charlton usually lose when you most expect them to win, and win when you've basically given up all hope of securing 3 points ever again. You'd be mad to predict a win tonight, but it would fit with a trend which stretches back decades. If there's one thing Charlton know how to do, it's prolong your agony.

Any early teamsheet news?2
-
I can't see it being anything but scrappy and won by the odd goal. The potential for referee shenanigans is off the scale, so easily a pen or a red card having a massive impact on either side.
Despite being turned over by MK at the weekend, they were 1-0 up until that pen and red card changed the game. Tactics need to be spot on and players need to be cohesive and brave - we've seen neither of those really this season, so it's a big ask. We must turn our periods of good play into chances.
I'm a sucker for pre-game optimism, but reality of this game will probably kick me in the proverbials. Likely a 1-1 at best, and it probably won't be pretty. A loss will be incredibly grim.0 -
I see we're still favourites to win with the bookies for some reason!0
