we witnessed our earliest leaver yesterday. As pompey celebrated their first goal the bloke next to us grabbed his belongings and left. Never to be seen again.
Perhaps he had stuck £5000 on Curtis to be the first goalscorer and was off to celebrate
That Marquis miss was absolutely awful - not just the miss but our whole play leading to it.
- More than embarrassing CM play in the desire to track back at any pace/desire from Arter and Watson. They look like two Uncles who've been asked to fill in at a school game just to ensure the match can still go ahead. So far, Arter seems to be this year's Watson, but of course, Charlton who wanted to bring youth and legs to CM have them both in the same frikkin team. - Pearce's defending of a basic ball across him onto his one and only foot. He completely missed it.
The above (alongside Gunter, Matthews) are our senior Pros and ones we keep offering feeble one year contracts to, yet gave Pratley the harsh treatment to make a statement about age. If they offer more gaffes than leadership and the required skillset on the pitch, just purse youth in those positions and at least we have a justified reason for being a work in progress and in the relegation zone.
Have put this on the things that annoy you thread, not really applicable to this site but here goes anyway. My wife left her sunglasses in the ladies prior to the game, went back straight away, gone, not handed in,just shoved in some random pocket,"they look nice I will have them"FFs,charlton supporters in the East stand, pitiful, sure the wifes at fault, but I do hope that whoever has them goes blind.
Slightly OTT mate, appreciate they were important to your good lady....but hey..perspective maybe
They did not have any sentimental value, just a decent pair of glasses that were quite expensive,it is more the principal that a,presume, fellow lady charlton Fan would just put them in their pocket, maybe ott, buts that how I feel about these sort of people.
She could have handed them in to the Club though?
We went to reception after the game, and nothing was handed in,we were asked to ring on monday, you never know, more pissed off that a fellow supporter could this than the actual glasses.
Defensively poor again today (Matthews, Pearce, Souare need to sort themselves out ASAP) but we finally looked like we have some attacking drive in our locker with Gilbey, Lee, Clare and CBT willing to run with the ball at their feet. Which was pleasing to see.
Most people around me and in the pub after thought Matthews had a good game.
You must have been standing next to his family
That’s strange as from where I was sat in the West stand Mathews Score an excellent equaliser from an excellent cross from CBT 👌
This was my first match for 25 months, mostly due to Covid19
Firstly, I don't like the booing and suchlike but I think it has to be understood that some people have watched this team 7-9 times this season and this is the worst team in our lifetimes.
I was expecting it to be bloody awful and was thankful that it was only bad. There are positives. We have some good players. The first twenty minutes confirmed my fears but it did get better.
We need to get three or four players out of the team and keep them out - Pearce, Arter, Stockley definitely.
We then need to pick a first eleven, play 442 and stick to it.
Play CBT and sod the 'scientists'. We have far too many people trying to complicate a simple game. Our second goal summed up how simple it can be.
We need Famewo in. If he's not fit then play Deje. We need Washington to partner Davison - Leko makes up the three of these two positions.
We have the players to be much better. The manager is to blame. The problem is the length of contract. We should learn from this and in today's game only offer a maximum of a one year (maximum - why not 6 months?) contract to a new manager. If they reach expectations then it's easily extended. Now we have an over-rated manager on an expensive pay-out.
The best thing about yesterday was watching the Pompey keeper Bazanu.
My lad was with me and as an aspiring and good keeper, we been working on sweeping & distribution. So I told him to ignore the rubbish happening on the pitch and just watch him.
What a talented young man he is. Super feet, range of passing and bravery to play that way. He won’t be L1 for long… unlike us!
Game we should of won. Portsmouth are turd and we let them into the game.
What I take away from it...Stockley can't play without a partner and CBT needs to start when fit along with Davison.
If its getting there then it's taking too long
Really? Pompey should have scored at least 6. No way did we justify a point. Why Adkins benched Blackett-Taylor after terrorising Gillingham is beyond me. Gilbey playing on the wing with B-T and Kirk on the bench? They must look rubbish in training. Watson’s every contribution was a disaster one way or another.
If Adkins can’t select a sensible, settled formation, he simply has to go.

He’s on loan from Man City, he has been playing really well for Ireland and saved a pen from Ronaldo on his debut.
Even worse than Harry Arter today though was the bovine fuckwit who kept trying to get a chant of WE'RE FUCKING SHIIIIT going in the North Lower. It was annoying but kind of expected in the first half, but when Portsmouth scored against the run of play in the second half he gave it his most impassioned go yet. Everyone hated him. Everyone.

Do you sit in the North Lower, @Leuth? I always pictured you as more West Upper

Yes I was aware of him anyway (he played his first game at 16 or 17) but he was also on loan at Rochdale last week. Destined for a much higher level.
That's why we have such a bloated squad and random team selections, to try and burn the opposition managers out as they spend all night trying to work out who we will pick next game

I watched him closely in the second half and his distribution was amazing - seems very confident.

The only slight criticism I might have is that he was often so far off his line that he was eminently lobbable. On a couple of occasions we had possession around the half way line but failed to notice he was outside the box. But yes, top keeper who will earn them points.

I was thinking we should’ve exploited the sun in their keepers eyes second half. But that would’ve required quick creative alert thinking, so that edge wasn’t exploited.

It's highly unlikely any of our players were going to lob the ball over him but I understand against a better side he might come a cropper. Will be interesting to see where his career takes him.

Surely we should have tried though? Even if they sailed wide, it might have sown a few seeds of doubt in his mind

Completely and absolutely created an extra player for the his team. It was12 against 11 from the start.
I realise that not every goallie has the same passing ability but there were lots of "simple" things he had been coached to do.
After a short pass out to a defender he ran into a good offensive position to take the ball back. It looked like he had practised this. Our goalkeepers just retreat slowly into the goal to offer a get out ball for the defender if needed.
This sort of thing is going on in third tier football these days but it goes way way over the heads of our coaching staff!
Both Cheltenham and MK Dons made excellent use of their goalkeeper as an "extra player" when playing the ball out of defence.
Portsmouth first goal was the consequence of Leko running to try and get a tackle in on the goalkeeper, and was out of position leaving Matthews exposed.
Nothing to add apart from I chose alcohol to avoid this match at the ground (watched on Charlton TV ) and again tomorrow I’m on the lash to avoid going to Charlton . I still feel shit from Saturday but I’d rather feel shit than go and explode at a Charlton match .
gills and Pompey waiting to get beat and at this point in time Charlton couldn’t beat an egg

If the scientists (assume you mean the medical team) can’t be trusted they need replacing or NA needs to build that trust. We want to stop having an injury crisis every season and you don’t do that by throwing in players when they’re not fit enough or at risk of injury.
We’ve got no idea what it would cost to pay NA off either. You’d hope TS agreed terms that make it affordable if he feels he needs to sack him.

I saw people saying we should have closed Bazanu done more. But this is the point, the keeper is trying to get a player to come out to then play in behind and break to press with a nice triangle.
As has been mentioned this type of play seems to totally alien to our players both offensively and defensively and it's great to see in the third tier... even if it is against us

All we need is a soupçon of Russel Slade’s patience.
