Fantastic win but it really does beg the question, what the hell was going on at the club under Adkins?
I mean, we can forgive the first 3-4 games as we brought players in late, but fuck me dead we were an absolute shambles under Adkins, those home losses to Bolton and Accrington were amongst the worst I have seen in my 35 years supporting the club.
What was going on? Did Adkins fall out with too many players? Were there splits in the camp between “his” players and the rest?
Let’s get real folks, Jackson has a far weaker squad than Adkins had, we are missing some of our best players, and we are winning games for fun whereas under Adkins we looked about at solid as a custard tart and as likely to win as a Labour candidate in Tunbridge Wells.
Would love to hear some insights because it’s got me beat, I could understand it if Adkins was a complete arsehole like Pardew and it was a personal thing but from the exterior, and given he did well last year, that doesn’t seem likely.
Very, very strange.
Oh I am with you on all of that except for one thing. Atkins was less likely to win than a Labour candidate in Tunbridge Wells. I lived in Tunbridge Wells for 10 years during the 1980s and 90s and we had a Labour Councillor in place all that time....😉
What a wonderful day, back at a full Valley, Addicks ripping apart the league leaders and the crowd absolutely rocking it The negatives, The bloody awful Addicks to Victory before and immediately after the game & Thomas's ill advised interview with South London Press. I think most Addicks, now have got the measure of Thomas, that he's a good guy but has an inflated ego his Linkedin Profile has him first as a Rock musician? this sadly he isn't, he is a successful US based business man who decided to buy an English team, looked at 4 clubs and picked us !What is such a shame is that it appears he is getting his advise from a certain Ged Roddy who isn't qualified to, as X director of Sport at Bath Uni for 20yrs, a role with Premier League & Academy manager at Reading FC?
Where are the wise men at Charlton to speak out and advise Thomas that Jacko is the only man for the job and if he wants to look to see who else is available (get lost Harris) and do his due diligence, please keep quiet about it. Thomas get a CEO to take the flak, advise and help adapt you to the rough and tumble of English football. Thomas has credit in the bank still, even after the debacle of Adkins but what a terrible misjudgement to say that Jacko could go back to being a number two? Surely someone at club or an X Player or manager has the balls to advises him to sign Jacko up ASAP. Lastly, Thomas please think hard before you speak to the press or play that bloody awful track again after a victory, we want to hear the Covered End Rocking it not drowned out.
As Muttley said earlier, when we were playing badly our players looked terrified of taking risks. When a pointless back pass to another red shirt in a cul de sac was available. Look at Purrington, Jayesimi Washington attacking players yesterday. Or Gilbey's pass for our second. Our confidence is sky high now. I'm still buzzing about that performance. And Jackson' first six games have invluded Sunderland, Rotherham and the League Leaders. Happy days.
What a great day…that is up there with the best. Controlled both halves. Thought everyone was immense but special mention for George Dobson who apart from his shooting is the new Conor Gallagher….he was everywhere. Pearce too Played such a vital part. Wonderful day Fantastic result. Blimey.
Loving the sour grapes on the Plymouth forum claiming it was our cup final. Brilliant performance, made a team playing very well look average at best. So many players performing at levels you wouldn't think possible after seeing them under Adkins.
Hope the Plymouth lads aren't too disappointed at missing out on the open-top bus parade they had arranged in expectance of their win.
Cup final? I thought plymouth was a made up place by the Ginsters marketing team until I heard Josh Widdicome mention it on a podcast.
Probably more suited for the getting old thread, but had to ask my son what the covered end were singing.
What an amazing day. The performance, the result and the support was fantastic. And, to cap it all, to see players drop to their knees in exhaustion at the final whistle because they had given their all for the shirt was out of this world. Could not pick a man of the match because there were so many superb individual performances. Will be interesting to see if this game sways TS in regards to the manager’s job. Anyway, onwards and upwards.
What a day. Took my 9 year old girl today only the second time this season she has been but seeing her on standing on her seat in the upper north when we scored going mad I knew then she got it (Charlton) for the first time. Boy what a feeling!! Croaked me up I tell you.
To many good performances to pick out a MOM. Only one decision to be made today from the owner. You know what that is Thomas. Get the contracts ready to sign for Jacko and Euelly.
Well, here I am just about 15 hours after the final whistle and I’m still buzzing. Quite simply that was the best day I have had at The Valley for many years (having missed the Doncaster play-off semi for some reason). It was an exciting, competitive game, an excellent all round performance, a brilliant result and a very special rocking Valley atmosphere. If you are too young to remember the Premier League days, my friends, then yesterday came close to giving you a sense of what it was like.
Of course, Plymouth were no Chelsea (4-2), Man United (3-3) or Man City (4-0) but I don’t agree with some of the views that they were poor. They weren’t; they were very competent with good technique and movement. We just didn’t allow them to play as well as they can. And the credit for that goes to Jacko and the boys. And let’s remember it wasn’t what anyone would have said was our first eleven. We were missing Matthews, Inniss, Lavelle, JFC, Leko and Stockley amongst others. The fact that so many “stand-ins” have become “stand-outs” is one of the more remarkable aspects of our recent form.
The whole team deserve the utmost credit for their performance yesterday but I just have to mention Sean Clare (who was fantastic and would deserve to stay in the RCB position even if Inniss or Lavelle were fit, on that display), George Dobson ( the transformation is amazing. An Arsenal fan I took with me picked him out as an outstanding performer) and Elliott Lee (please Thomas, get him signed on a permanent deal). Credit also to Chris Gunter who slotted in so well as a makeshift CB when Pearcey went off. It was also my first look at Mason Burstow and I liked what I saw, a lot.
Up to yesterday I have been one of those who loved what Jacko is doing but was quite content to let TS review other candidates to ensure we got the best possible manager. After yesterday I am completely won over. The transformation Jacko has engineered in our tactics, style, energy, level of individual performance, team spirit and rapport with the fans has been incredible. It’s far more than a new manager bounce. Appoint him, give him more coaches, give him whatever backing he needs, he’s the real deal. However unlikely its seemed just a few weeks ago the play-offs are not quite the impossible dream we believed them to be. Jacko can take us there.
And finally, a huge thank you to Thomas Sandgaard and his commercial team that conceived of “Fill the Valley”. On a personal level it was great to show off my club to friends (one Arsenal fanatic and one Rangers fan) who went away thrilled by the football and atmosphere and at least partly converted to Addicks fandom. And that surely must have encouraged some people to want to come back, again and again. When the Valley is like that there is no better place to be.
Anyone else see the bell ends walking round behind the covered end around 2pm singing/goading…..amazed they were allowed to crack on as much as they did

No we didn't, we made them look shit. If Stockley played yesterday, we win that by at least 4.
Not necessarily. I thought the team was very well balanced for the job in hand.

2pm ? Were they too young to be allowed in a pub ?

Green army? They walked past the Oak and went in the corner shop as we arrived.
That feeling is the high that keeps you coming back during the shite times. Its what you're always searching for. Packed Valley, incredible atmosphere that just pulls people along with it, incredible performance, connection between players and management and fans.

Ha ha ...... I know what you mean. Plymouth is a tiny little hamlet of 250,000 people and a catchment area of a further 1 million.
Ginsters might sponsor Argyle, but their pasties are made in Cornwall. Nobody in Cornwall will eat a Ginsters pasty.
Ginger Pig at London Bridge do the most amazing pasties. Once you've eaten one of those, you won't go anywhere near a Ginsters or any other mass-produced one.
Cant believe other clubs haven't worked out that cross from deep by DJ aiming for Purrinho at the far post yet. Alright we didn't score from it yesterday but it gave us so many opportunities in the first half.
Surely someone will find a way to counter it soon. Having said that I don't think it will matter. In the 2nd hf we switched it to playing through the strikers a bit more and whilst we weren't so dominant it did bring is more clear cut chances. Made up for us not being able to make that first half dominance count.
Incredible to think how far we have come in a month. I genuinely felt like I was falling out of love with football. Had no connection with the team, horrible toxic atmosphere, booing of the knee, hearing more incidents of racism and sexism from fans around me than I had in all my time coming to charlton combined. I was genuinely wondering whether I wanted to be part of football anymore. Days like yesterday remind me why I love this club and the game.
Still need to get rid of those booing the knee but let's tackle that another day.
After the match I was approached at the top of Floyd Road by two very large and very pissed Plymouth fans who asked if I was Charlton. I raised myself to my full 5 feet 7 inches, stuck out my 66 year old chest and proudly confirmed I was. Half expecting a row, I was watchful, but they proceeded to tell me that they would still be promoted, that we're the best team they've faced all season, that we'll be in the Championship with them next year and that it was a cracking atmosphere in a game we deserved to win. I complimented them on a fantastic turnout by the Plymouth fans and we parted with handshakes (one of them was shaking a lot already and didn't need to put in any motion at all ). Nice lads, and a good end to a brilliant afternoon.
Ps. Followed by a less good journey home, where an accident ahead of me on the M3 meant I didn't get in util 8pm.
That’s about right. Charlton were constantly pressing which meant Plymouth were pinned back in their own half for what seemed like 90% of the game and passing it sideways and back to their keeper.
Plymouth did have a lot of the ball, but did nothing with it,time and time again, our organisation was such that their moves just petered out and quite often ended with some very threatening breakaways. Can we keep this up,yes we can,I think those players will be chomping at the bit to play again even on a november night in Morecombe. The confidence they now have is remarkable, hardly a sideways pass one thought in mind to run at the opposition and ,everyone seems to be enjoying their football, being part of this club.TS is right,we do have a strong squad, hopefully in the next few weeks,Leko,Matthews,Innis will all be available,we will be able to give players a rest,Kirk,Morgan,Watson will have a roll to play,if they can react the same way as those currently in the team, who knows how far we can go this season.200 to 1 to be champions with Paddy, got to be worth a fiver.

We all know he can do motivation but today he showed he's a smart tactician too.
I feared we may have run out of ideas at half time. So many decent crosses, so few clear cut chances.
Then somehow we got even better. Then Pearcey was injured but instead of collapsing we scored.
That was very high class opposition and we made them look ordinary.
Can we keep up this ultra high intensity all season ?
'No noise from the pasty boys'
Patsy boys?
No pasty boys.
As in pasty faced?
NO CORNISH PASTIES!

We are getting our club back.
