  • Notice how much more balanced Washington's play looks now he's using his left foot a bit.
  • Oh piss off Jermaine, shouldnt have to apologise for something like that
It was the least bad bit about the commentary.
  • Great night, feel so rough this morning so heading back to pub before train

  • We were fortunate not to concede a goal that would have totally changed the complexion of the game but we controlled the second half well and deserved the win. My main concern is just how vulnerable we looked to balls played through and behind our defence. And that wouldn't have been resolved through the presence of Innis, Pearce or Lavelle, none of whom can turn rapidly or are particularly quick. Any League One opposition managers or scouts will have clocked that one.

I'd gamble that we'd set up to take it easy.
We never really got out of second gear. We never looked worried. The only position I was concerned for was the defence and Gateshead exposed their lack of pace multiple times, but our keeper was more than equal to the best they had.

Our best players were Henderson and Stockley, with no one else really doing much worth talking about.
I'd say we were set up to contain them and quickly strike on the counter - Jacko has been saying he'd done his homework and knew Gateshead would start brightly and carry the game to us.

Gateshead were always going to give it a go and unsettle us.
It wasn't our Cup Final, but it was Gateshead's. And they played like it, as you would expect.

  • It made sense with Ipswich on Tuesday to just get the job done last night. No injuries and a win ! What's not to like ? The other great point is that the loan players played which hopefully means their clubs are not planning on recalling them in January

Seems he’s seen the stick he’s getting and explained himself well, think that’s fair enough and quite modest.  Don’t have to apologies though we’re not that sensitive 😂
No .... but he is!

Our defence played a very high line. It pushes us up the park and compacts our midfield.
Although that always give the possibilty of a ball over the top exploiting the space behind. As we saw last night with Gateshead's gameplan.

We even did it to them with Washington's superbly timed run and cross for our 1st goal.

Absolutely, everyone knows that in any competition the neutral fan will nearly always root for the underdog.

The FA Cup even more so.
He is not a neutral fan, he is co commentator. If he wants to make a career in the role he will have to work harder on the balance, and more importantly show he can bring an insight from a professional footballers experience. I don’t think he did that and I think he now understands why.
That said, it is a highlight in their players careers, their families, and most of all, their fans. I don’t think anyone begrudges them a bit of bias in the commentary.

We were fortunate as you say, but I think you’re perhaps wrong with the issue not being resolved with a back 3 of Lavelle, Innis and Famewo as I think their positioning and knowledge of the role counts for so much. Remember we were playing with a central midfielder and a raw 18 year old in the role.

Full respect to Gateshead though. Williamson has got them playing excellent football and I look forward to seeing how they do in the rest of the campaign.
  • Pleased we got the win. No injuries and a decent showing by Henderson. Surprised Burstow wasn’t on the subs bench.

Hopefully, a couple more quid in the January budget to sign that needed striker.

  • Good for him, but obviously bollocked by the bosses.
