Job done. Poor defensively and were turned round far too easily. Too much space behind the wing backs. Good performances from Henderson and Elewere. The rest a bit meh.
Sunderland, unbeaten at home Gateshead unbeaten at home.
I've got visions of a pub in the North East, Sunderland are already in there, drowning their sorrows at their own table... Gateshead walk in and sit down next to them, not a word gets said for an age, until the former pipes up ...
We're through to the 3rd Round which is the main thing. Typical tricky away tie which you're expected to win and Gateshead have nothing to lose.
A more comfortable 2nd half but thanks to some very non-league finishing we didn't concede the 3 or 4 goals we could have done. Way too many good chances given away to the opposition.
Tough game for Deji which he improved in as it went on but can't say any standout players tonight despite a strong side being put out.
Up until that last triple scramble Gateshead barely got across the half way line in the second half. In the first half we let them have too much space on the wings. But second half we stopped that and bossed the midfield. I have rarely felt so relaxed in a game after our second went in. Our two main problems were clear tho. We need another proper experienced centre half in 4 weeks time to make up for the crocked ones. And we need another striker as we rarely look like scoring from shots inside the box, tonight's was a deflection.
Good closing interview with Jacko, rightly giving praise to Gateshead, but Deji has had a good game at the back up against some quick forwards, Stockley giving Jacko the nod for the perm job, they all love him so over to you Thomas.
The main thing I took from watching this match on TV is that apparently every advert now has a shitty mournful cover of an old song as its soundtrack. I even heard a Proclaimers one in there. Jesus wept.
