With COVID forcing Jacko to make a couple of changes to the starting lineup, his first game in charge as permanent manager at Plymouth was off to a rocky start. Nonetheless, we started well, with Soaré and Leko coming in to replace Famewo and Washington. For thirty minutes, we outplayed them in possession before letting Plymouth, who had garnered only one point from fifteen, gain a foothold. We then went completely flat.

On the stroke of half time Plymouth managed to waltz up to our box and force MacG into a parry that fell just right for another of their oncoming attackers. To go down a goal in that manner was a gut punch. Would that prove a wake up call? Could we respond?

Well, the answer was a resounding no to both. We were second best to everything in the second half. Rather than find another gear, everything went flat. We laboured on to no great effect and the game slipped away without much fanfare.

Plymouth were not much better than us and missed some comically easy chances. Still, with the poor run of form, I’m sure they’re elated.

This is the kind of performance that’s best just to forget as quickly as possible.

Plymouth Argyle 1 Charlton Athletic 0

Over to you.

seriously disappointing ... are there more Covid cases than realised?  At least that would explain it ... otherwise, it is concerning as yet another awayday let-down

Horribly reminiscent of an Adkins performance second half.
  • Is it too early to say "we've got our Charlton back"?

A total wet fart of a performance which was absolutely NOT the way for the team to mark Jacko’s appointment. Poor pretty much all over the pitch but Soare, DJ and Lee were all awful. Kirk when he came on as well was predictably rubbish. Losing Washington and Famewo so late in our preparations was obviously a blow and it looked like quite a few others may just be under the weather too - which may be the only explanation for such a bad display. The one bright spot for me was the return of Ryan Inniss, who looked strong and capable in defence. Oh well, on to Wimbledon and let’s hope the lads get their mojo back for that one.

Not every transfer works out. Bless him Kirk is probably a nice bloke and all that, but at 500k he is a dud.
    Then again Dobson isn't.

That was proper shit. Beaten by a poor side and we were worse. First time I’ve witnessed us playing with no confidence.

If players like DJ think a fancy trick every now and then is enough then they’re in for a shock. Didn’t go for him today and he hid. Leko was just as shit and Gilbey and Lee weren’t much better but least they showed for it when time was running out. Souare looked like a pub player and Kirk looks like a kid that’s won a competition.

Connor Washington is a game winner at this level and we missed him massively today.

DJ was rubbish but at least he didn't hide, and he did get stuck in. Nothing came off for him, but some of the other players were rubbish AND uninvolved. At least one of the others probably doesn't have a professional career left, at least not here. Squad needs a slight overhaul

Curbs and Nelson both saying they think Covid may have spread, even on the long journey down to Plymouth? it seems too coincidental that so many were off the pace....perhaps JJ can shed some light on the matter?

Jackson out. Time to give Euell a go and see if he can give the players a lift.

And went off injured. Just as we get Innis back. Not enough strength in depth. Too many players who are not quite good enough. Can we get anyone decent in in the window? 10 defeats, hard to see us making the play offs now.

Oh shit. 'DJ hid' and 'DJ didn't hide' in two successive posts. CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTER

JJ has some work to do to replicate the home form, a few away games now where its been poor

All I'll say is - nobody could cock up as much as DJ did today on the ball if they were hiding. He did fight for possession and win quite a lot of free kicks though
  • Apologies if this is a stupid question - but did we have the option to get the game postponed?
Obviously it makes no sense whatsoever to play without your best forward and defender....

Excellent commentary by Louis Mendez on Radio London.
  • There completes the triumvirate of games mentioned in the changing room by Jacko after the Plymouth home game …. 1 point from those 3 games

we looked so off the pace
lame all round but they can have that cos of the brilliant efforts that have been put in recently .

that’s that realistically for the play offs
    10 points is too much
we just aren’t consistently good enough to close that gap .

Another season as the wankiest team in South East London and sloshing about in the third tier .

merry fucking Christmas, fuck you charlton , Charlton is for life not just Christmas, oh great something to look forward to , came lunts

    0%    Top 2
    5% Play offs
    75     7th-12th
    20%  13th-20tH

Didn't really hide for me. Might have wanted to, but they kept going at him. But his touch, which is normally very good, looked like that of a stone today and never seemed to make the right decision.

Dobbo too. Won the ball back a lot, especially in the first half. But everyone in front of him were poor, bar maybe Stickley who at least dropped off and tried to link up play.

He can’t physically hide can he. His body language with 20 mins to go was that he stuck himself out as wide as he could, so try take himself and his marker out the game. Then when play was switched, he’d come inside straight away looking to offload before get brushed off the ball with ease. I understand consistency with league one wingers is going to be very low, but his arsehole went today.

Oh come on. DJ was so effing useless today it would have been better if he'd hidden back in the dressing room.

Oh god, sorry if the commentator reads CL, but yeah, that was staggering stuff. Couldn't identify our players most of the time. Said Plymouth were a confident team when they've been losing every fucking week. Didn't seem to really understand football. Gave us poshos a bad name

Taking nothing away from what we’ve achieved under Jackson and how well the team have done since Adkins left, that was toilet.

The 30 mins of possession at the start of the game was irrelevant.  I appreciate the last minute changes wouldn’t have helped, but what a chance for the players who came in to stake a claim to be considered.

Poor all over the pitch.  Lee & Gilbey anonymous, DJ did nothing.  Leko and Stockley was a horrible combination, and even Dobson wasn’t his usual engine like self.  Souare as much as I hate to say it doesn’t like he’s going to be able to play football at this sort of level anymore.

One of the annoying things was seeing the likes of Kirk get that chance when he hasn’t started, and not show any sort of fight to give Jackson a headache.

Definitely missed Washington and Purrington out wide, and we can have bad days at the office, but very similar performance to Shrewsbury imo.  They looked knackered, but we can’t keep having these games where we bust a gut like we did against Ipswich, if we’re going to be knackered for the next few games after.

I think send Kirk out on loan in Jan, try and bring in another forward and have a plan B.  If the XI that started against Ipswich aren’t on it from the off, we can look bang average

Is Washington the most important player in our squad? We’re a different, much worse team without him
