What's the point in loan players at this stage....
Well Nile John is not 19 for another 6 weeks. It's possible that he'll need some time adapting to mens football, like Dasilva did. We get to look at him for the rest of the season with a view to signing him again in the summer for a promotion push next season. If he doesn't do well enough, we look at an alternative in the summer. That's ignoring the outside chance we snap him up permanently in the summer. I think a loan move works but it has to be with a view to the player being here again next season.
There is absolutely no chance that we will sign one of Spurs' top academy prospects on a permanent deal in the summer.
maybe not, but there's every chance he does well, fits in and we get him early on a season long loan in August....therefore good planning

Finding it really hard to get excited about any of our signings ATM. We will be looking to rebuild again in the summer with more loans and players with histories of long term injuries. On top of that (apart from staying up) our season is over.
Gallagher going to palace has ruined all loan signings for me forever.

Don't wanna be a killjoy and usually optimistic with this sort of thing, but I can't get too excited about loan's either. Having the odd one, fair enough, but operating with your maximum limit of loan players is not the answer for long term team building imo.

3 signings in the January window already & still 4 days to go.

    This doesn't feel very Charlton!!

The underwhelming feeling is just the same.
We're a mid table league 1 club so expectations should be managed accordingly.

My point stands. I'm pleased to see our business done relatively early, signing players we actually want rather than scratching around for whatever's available on deadline day
In Jan 2011 prior to the big summer rebuild we signed Bradley Wright-Philips who was knocking them in at Plymouth. I'm sorry but two 18 years olds and possibly a player just returning from a very bad injury, still strikes me as scratching around.
Who is the second 18 year old? John and?

we've also signed a proven league 1 goal scorers and a loan from Chelsea who fits in with the formation the manager likes to play. When did we last have a better Jan window?
    Last year, Stockley and Millar?

This is though the second winter running were we are trying to off load our summer signings/re-signings.

IMO we’ve done enough of chucking in youngsters who aren’t ready in the last few years. TS has stated on numerous occasions he wants to utilize the academy, so if there were a few deemed ready for game time, I think they’d be getting it considering the position in the table we’re in

I’m still not over Josh Cullen to be honest, never getting that attached to a loanee again.

So far we have resigned Chucks, a wing back who has Covid and an 18 year old who has played 1 professional game. Strongly linked with a player who has just had his knee rebuilt.

If either of the loans have as much impact as Millar I'll be very happy.

Obviously I will pass judgment once I have actually seen them but you can't blame people for being pessimistic after the last window.

i'm starting to think we are aiming to become a football rehabilitation centre - chucks was turfed out fora  few months so the facilities could be upgraded / refurbished but now we are ready - bring on the long termers and lets experiment on them with TS's medical devices

About the same really. Wasn't expecting much more either, too much deadwood to shift.

    2 prem youngsters on loan
    1 champ loan
    2 perm

    V

    2 prem youngsters on loan
    1 perm

Seems fair for a Jan window with nothing much to play for.

How is a player having covid and now recovered relevant?

Weren't we after him in the summer? Bolton are offering £150 k... we sould be all over this as well as he would walk into our midfield
Best player by far when we played them at their place earlier in the season. He turned the game for them in the 2nd half.

Not paying £150k for him is a dereliction of duty imo.
Don't understand why we haven't gone for him....he's cheap and he lives local so he would probably want the move.....better than any of our mids when we played them....unless Scally is blocking it

An 18 year old that has played for the 1st team twice for Spurs and played for England at u15 to u17 and now for the u19’s and comes with a personal recommendation from Sir Chris Powell.

Whoever is scratching around needs to keep doing it.

No you’re right, we need players with loads of experience. This window won’t be a success until I hear we’ve resigned Arter and given new 5 year deals to Gunter and Watson.

Played for the first team twice?!? When?

When he was on the bench but didn't play against Vitesse and Stade Rennais in the Europa Conference League do you mean? Because they could name me on the bench for Barcelona Vs Real Madrid, but if I don't get on the pitch it means absolutely fuck all

John made his professional debut on 24 February 2021 for Tottenham coming on in as a substitute in the Europa League game against Wolfsberg which ended 4–0.[3]

On 19 August 2021, John made his first start for Tottenham by playing in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League competition against F.C. Paços de Ferreira, which ended in a 1–0 defeat.[4]

I get your point but saying it means fuck all is an over kill. It means that they think he is good enough to be involved in their first team squad.
