Taunton has its own micro-climate. Been there many times and it is a law unto itself. Canterbury can be like that too.
There have been storms in the southwest
Could do with a bit of that in Kent. And Edgbaston for that matter.
and Humberside/E Yorks/Lincs/E Anglia .. no 'proper' rain for weeks
Club grounds last season were green throughout the summer. For most that don't have extra sources of water such as a borehole, there isn't a blade of grass on the outfield
S A get well over 300 through proper batting .. I hope England can do like wise and are not in 20/20 mode .. seriously tough day in the field for England .. wonderful to win the toss and get them sweating and fretting for 50 overs .. all to do England
van der Dussen is not fielding .. IF IF that is cos he's too knackered after a long innings, England should object .. IF he's tired, tough, they should field with 10 men or get him out there cream crackered or not
Weird that with all the good weather, none of the pitches during the England white ball games have really suited England's "attack from start" batting style

I'm certainly no expert on this but I do wonder if the weather and duration of it has meant that the pitch preparers are having to leave more grass on for fear that, due to the lack of water they can actually get on, if they don't then these pitches will crack more seriously and wider too - hence they aren't as true as our batsmen might like. The alternative is that they go totally the other way and the wickets become total bunsen burners.
Very dull game. No noise from the crowd at all. Have they all fallen asleep or died in the heat ?
It's been like that all day, even when we've hit boundaries or taken wickets earlier on. It's almost as if they've turned down the mics or that they are positioned further away from the crowd than they are at other grounds. That said, the ground only holds 5,000 (a reason the ECB don't like holding internationals there) and it's quite possible that wherever the mics are there isn't the density of crowd to make sufficient noise anyway.
Edit - it's 17,000 for internationals and 5,000 for domestic matches - the ECB still don't like holding internationals there because they can't sell out as they can elsewhere at the prices charged at the likes of The Oval and Lords
We are seeing why having a touch player like Root is so important and why we have to learn to play in different ways. SA didn't hit a single 6 yet amassed 333 and RVD did a similar job to Root in that he hit just 40 in 10 boundaries out of a total of 134 off 117 balls, meaning that he still scored 94 off his other 107 balls.
Why oh why are England playing Matty Potts? What the hell? We find ourselves a very good young test bowler and their going to play him in the one dayers.Fantastic way of ruining our good young test bowlers. He'll be injured by the time test series starts.Bloody ridiculous decision.

As it is, he went off with heatstroke after bowling 4 overs. What a day to make his ODI debut, and unlike the big stars he won't have played in Australia, India and the UAE
Due to rain in Manchester(!) play will start at 4:45, reduced to 29 overs a side
A 29 over game should suit us as we do we have five "explosive" batsmen in our top six plus Root who will rotate and hit the odd maximum as he did in the last game.
62-4, the new white ball era not exactly going well
It started going wrong before Buttler took the job. Morgan knew it and his form was a contributory factor in his decision to resign. With Stokes gone too, we have an all right hander top order plus a number of batsmen who are at their best facing pace on good decks.
The 5th consecutive time we've failed to see out our overs - a total of 203 balls given up.
What we need is for these England batsmen to get plenty of experience grooving their technique and re-learning how to build an innings in the 50 over format because it is so different to everything else they play. If only we had a domestic competition, away from the pressure of facing full international bowling attacks, that would enable them to do that!

Any ground management experts on here?

Consistently outplayed
