  • I’m not sure anyone mentioned so far will agree to work within the constraints of the current player recruitment set-up.
Not sure if I heard right but during that hour long Exeter City interview, I'm sure he mentioned some bloke was responsible for the recruiting. Maybe it's more commonplace than we realise.
  • I would take the manager odds with a massive pinch of salt, it takes a bet of £1 to move one of these markets, it’s completely random, with next to no liquidity and set up for people to lose money
    Very true.

And all betting is set up for people to lose money, that's how it works and why bookmakers make their profits.
  • It absolutely is.
We have had someone in that role, or similar, pretty much since Curbs left.

Some of them have been a disaster.

So at this stage Taylor is under consideration. No mention if the club have spoken to Exeter for permission.

However if Taylor has got any sense he wants to speak to Jackson on how the club has been since Taylor left in 2013.

No better person to ask than Jackson
Good idea, ask the man that’s just been sacked,I’m sure it will be a glowing recommendation. might as well not bother and let TS be manager himself.
    Give it time  :D
I think there are some that really believe it’s a possibility the way they carry on. People seem to be quite keen on putting the boot in on old Tommy, not sure why because for me the biggest let downs were the team and the outgoing manager in that order.maybe if any of the doubters have concrete evidence that there are sinister things happening, they should come clean with us not in the know fans , it is becoming really tedious reading how every decision is a bad one. If things are amiss then fine, but if it’s just conjecture let the bloke get on and sort things out.
Well he’s sort of sorted it out by putting his son in charge of recruitment. You know, the one with the hard shot.
I’m not defending him as i don’t know the facts, but did I incorrectly read somewhere he is overseeing the analytics department not actually signing the players?. Are we getting our knickers in a twist with only getting half the story?. Im keeping my powder dry until we see who the manager is, im guessing we will all have a better idea once the first couple of signings are made as to whether we should question what’s going on. Unless as I said previously there is something for certain, somebody knows that maybe we should be made privy too.
Much was made of Thomas Driesen being appointed when he had no real experience in the game but was making decisions on which players the manager should buy.  What's the difference here?  Seems like it's just some other chap with no experience being given a job to do that he is underqualified for.  What may make matters worse is that it's the owner's son, so clearly the accusations of nepotism are bound to materialise.
I certainly take your point but it’s computer analytics he’s doing. Unless you don’t think this aspect of player assessment is at all useful which would be an outlier view in the game at present then who might be better qualified for this role ? Certainly not any of the possible managers being spoken about or probably anyone else currently at the club. No doubt scouting and personal knowledge are more important ? But the analysis of stats could highlight players that were not previously known or considered. We mustn’t be too blinkered in our approach. If it transpires that the analytics is the prime driver in recruitment then we might have reason to be concerned but I don’t think it is or ever will be.
  • Never complicate something that is basically simple.
Not a thing known to man that can’t be improved.

The other side of the coin is (and I’m making the salary up here). Exeter pay Taylor £150k year…Charlton offer him £250k a year and a 3 year contract. I very much doubt if a conversation with Jackson is going to sway him.
Are you saying he’d be swayed by money??!!!! Surely not he’d being joining for prestige wouldn’t he!!😜😂
More than that. Imagine the lure of being able to take the the training pitch with Albie Morgan every day.

Any manager/coach worth his salts at the 3rd level would enjoy the challenge of working with Morgan. Why at times is his set pieces excellent: the set pieces to Jayden and Chuks which led to headed goals against Shrewsbury, yet he has no belief when he attempts shots with a moving ball.
I was on Morgan watch against Morecambe at home. 4 particular shots at goal summed up Albie's game.
Two scuffed shots around the box which were half chances but also two volleys which went close but I just don't feel he has the conviction !
His passing game would improve when he has more options and movement around him.

I would read the riot act to Morgan; you are fitter than ever, now spend extra time in the afternoon at Sparrows lane just striking a football until you have total belief. Are you happy just to be a squad player, picking up your money and being content whether you are in the team or not.

I know I'm in the minority but Morgan could be 50% better if he was pushed and cajoled into being a much better player. Does he want it enough ?

I just don’t think it’s as simple as that. What separates average L1 type players from good Championship players, or higher, isn’t just desire I fear.

“His passing game would improve when he has more options and movement around him.”

I’m afraid it’s more of an ‘if’ than a ‘when’.

He would make a small fortune writing a book about last 12 years
If turned into a Netflix mini-series, who would play Jacko and the other protagonists?

When analytics is additional input then it’s a helpful tool. Unfortunately for Charlton our then owner was also a tool.

It’s nothing to do with having a great depth of knowledge about football. It’s being able to look at the data that comes out of the programme and pass that on. I really don’t see why people think it’s a football expert that’s required.

Desire and putting in extra work on the training ground. My point is *Morgan can improve his overall game but my doubts are as much on his motivation. IF would be the correct word not WHEN as like many Charlton players they go from the sublime to the ridiculous: Sarr and Famewo in the past spring to mind.

I'm disappointed in Albie's progress considering an early game in the championship where he passed and linked well with the better player around him that day: Cullen, Bielik, Williams etc.

I listened to Walker on radio five live last night and it was a great insight into the fact that not only are City the most skilled team along with Liverpool but the training is so intense and you are not allowed a bad training  session. The only poor trainer at Man City was Aguero who came alive on match days and that's why they have built a statue in his honour.

I know Man city play on a different planet but every team including Cafc and the step 4 and 5 teams and the many youth academy matches I watch have to continue to strive as you are only as good as your last match  in this social media society.

Maybe not friendly guys like Chris,Nigel or Johnnie next but a manager that cajoles but keeps some distant from the players on a social level and let  the bonding which is a vital component of team sport be taken by the Coaches.

    * Every player at Charlton should strive to improve for Cafc sake and their own careers sake.

If we were fishing in the pond that had Warburton or Dyche in it, fair enough. But the pond we are fishing in is full of gambles. So it is surely a case of bringing in an intelligent man, who is well respected and liked by his players and who has a clear plan. Oh, I think we just sacked one of those. Still, it shouldn't be too hard to find another and then it is a case of hoping it works out. That is the reality in our pond.

I'm not against Taylor, I'm not against Ferguson, I'm not against Euell or a few others. These are all gambles that could very well pay off if supported which is probably the biggest factor of them all. Get the man in, implement the plan and hope. But do it quickly so conversations can start with targets and we all know where we are going.

It amazes me how trying to be clever and taking an age with a complicated process will give us the desired results when it has never delivered results for us in our whole history!

Totally agree with your point but pass on to who at this present time?

If we sign players before we appoint a manger we can see an anomaly with this.  Ok SG and TS are part of the recruitment team but at this moment there is only one person with pro background. We are informed, with the emphasis on negotiation taking up his time.

Lets hope we get a manager on board and things start fitting in to place.

We will hire who ever is left on the self in late August.
    That’s the spirit!
Watford and Fleetwood have hired already . The rest with managers are signing players and we are tracing last years disaster when we had a manager who apparently was bi passed on some signings of which , somewere late anyway . We then scrabbled around in September.  The answer was Soarè.
When I pointed out in mid June our recruitment was slow and  not in line with smashing the league I was rounded on by all. Now everyone  agrees last summer was piss poor.
That is why I say thar, history  doesn't exactly point to anything else does it , with Tommy.
Why he just doesn't  do his badges and have done with it.
3 managers in 20 months isn't  goi g to attract a high flyer does it.
    I hope I am wrong.
I don’t think you were ‘rounded on’ for saying that. Lots of people were saying the same.

Jacko 4/6 favourite for the Wimbledon job.

Not sure if this is insider information or just someone having £50 on JJ getting the job.

Some dude said JJ had terrible results when picking the team ? But his record in his two spells when picking the team was 17 wins and 13 losses and League 2 will be a great place for JJ to prove 3-5-2 can be successful but maybe try to make the simple switch to 5-3-2 for game management purposes and have natural wing backs on at least one side if not both !

I'm convinced JJ will have success but obviously he made some mistakes in his 30 League games in charge.

but he also improved 3 of the success stories this season:
Dobson, Corey Blackett-Taylor, and Clare who found another position he can perform in.

We need players and a manager that can hit the ground running and the last day of the August window just won't work with incoming players. We scored our first goal from open play in our last game of August.

Can we stop ground hog day.

Perhaps it’s because Edwards only managed Forest Green for a season - he’s a promising young manager.

Taylor has been at Exeter for 4 years, he’s far too old now.
  • no rumours then?

    Yes, Taylor.

Do we really know he improved them? We know he put faith in them, which of course would help their confidence. Bowyer was always claiming to have improved players, and it put me off him if anything.
